I just got the exact same gun this past weekend. It's very nice and I can't wait to take it out to shoot. I've had the 5 shot model 85 Ultra lite with a 2" barrel for many years and it has been very easy to carry. I've never had any problems with tarus revolvers, they have been great to me. I also have a model 692 in 357 / 38+P / 9mm that I keep in the night stand. It's a fun shooter with two 7 shot cylinders .

Nice revolver. But the steel version with 24 oz is still quite light for its size. A 3 inch S&W k frame weigh about 31 oz! You can get your 22 snubby also as ultralite. The newer 2 inch 856 also have interchangeable front sights.

That looks like a good carry option. I'm a semi auto guy myself although I inherited my dad's Smith & Wesson bicentennial 357 4" in Stainless. I shot it when he first got it and last 4 years ago before cleaning and burying in the back of one of my safes. I have too many 1911 variants but I do own 1 tricked out Glock 19X that I'm pretty fond of. There's no right or wrong firearm as long as you like it and are proficient with it. Thanks for the video. 👍

I think so. Whether we like it or not, more gun control is coming... Biden's poll numbers are going up, and I am no longer convinced that we will win either the Senate or the House in November. We blew it with the Rowe v Wade thing, and likely handed victory to the Democrats as a result. Biden bribing people by forcing taxpayers to pay off their college loans is ethically and morally wrong, but it WILL prove to be a winning strategy for those voters at the ballot box. Republicans just aren't good at winning, most of the time. So I think that in my lifetime, we will see drastic changes to gun laws, and "old school" guns like revolvers, shotguns, lever guns, etc... They will be the last on the chopping block.

I bought a Ultra-Lite black model 3 weeks ago and have run almost 500 rounds thru it, carry it CCW and I love it. I might have missed it but a set of the Taurus boot grips come in the box also. I installed them and they look just like the grip on my Smith 642 so I ran a direct comparison between the Taurus and Smith. IMHO the 856 is a better value at half the price of the 642. It has a better trigger, front sight, grip, lockup and fit and finish are on par with each other and with the 3" barrel the Taurus balances better and has much improved bullet performance. That extra inch or so of tube really makes a difference and I do CCW with it, hardly noticeable. I'm a believer and might buy another with a steel frame for general use and chasing cans.

I scraped off the orange paint above the tritium. (Not easy). Was constantly shooting low as I was picking up the blade and lining up like the tops of the front and rears like every other gun I own. Not the best sight setup for older eyes and it's weird having to have the top of the front sight so high above the tops of the rear sights. Given the low cost of the sight, I'm probably going to grind the front sight down or try to find a shorter height ramp.

@@SquireSCA Thank you and thanks for the vid. I gotta get a 3" 6 shot Taurus with nite sights! Plus it is an UL! AND it is reasonably priced. No one else offers a package like that, the perfect carry pistol. That extra 1" makes it viable for distances beyond typical self defence range, which means a lot to me 'cause I like the option of taking shots at edible critters when I'm out fishing. I do love the .38 Special. When I started as a state trooper the qualification course included six rounds at 60 yards from the prone position. I can remember holding that Model 10 sights on the neck of the silhouette target and the bullets would strike the upper chest. When I was promoted to investigator, the issued revolver was a round butt Model 64 2". How I loved that gun. Of course those were all steel. Now retired, I always carry. I have lots of carry guns; 9s, 44, other 38s. I know for sure that a +P 38 is more than enough, and my safe won't be full until I have the Taurus. (Actually it won't go in the safe. It will be on my belt or on the night stand.). Thank you, sir, for the review. Mike Gibbs Oh wait! Of course. There really is no "wrong" choice here... If it fits your hand, and you can manage the recoil, it will be great. Are you going to carry it often? If yes, get the ultralite. If not, get the standard heavier steel version to reduce felt recoil.

@@misssassycompany9950 Its a fantastic revolver. Buy the lightweight or steel frame, in the color that you want, and it should serve you well. Near as I can tell, they are only manufacturing guns they can't import. Interesting side note, only 3" revolvers and longer can be imported. Snubbies are imported with 3" barrels and are cut down and recrowned after import.
@SquireSCA2 жыл бұрын
Really? Why would barrel length matter on a revolver for import? I swear, we have so many stupid laws that were written by children with no understanding of the topic…
@jameslooker47912 жыл бұрын
@@SquireSCA Basically, there are 3 laws that regulate guns to a significant degree. The National Firearms Act of 1934. The Gun Control Act of 1968. The Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986. The GCA established the background check system and targeted cheap imported guns that came to be known as "Saturday Night Specials." To distinguish target guns from junk guns, they created a system where a gun is given points for attributes like weight, caliber, and barrel length. In the 1960s the problem was largely importers that would sell by catalog and to shops in poor communities. They would just order 1,000 revolvers and flip them as quickly as possible to anyone they could find. Many of the large importers and manufacturers partnered after the 1968 GCA and started manufacturing the same guns in the US to avoid the regulations.

James Looker The evidence points to Taurus USA manufacturing the G series pistols, the TX22 and the GX4 as far as I know. I have heard a Brazilian guy state before in a comment that he was waiting for a G2c to be shipped from the US. Whether this is true or not I can't say. I also heard in an interview with CEO Vorhees while discussing the G3c that they were making them as fast as they could and even those in the warehouse (imports) were being sold out. Other pistols I doubt they are manufacturing. The Taurus web site does not specify the models being made in the US. Taurus also owns Heritage Arms and Rossi.

@@SquireSCA I own a G2c I got back in 2018 with over 600 rounds of all kinds of ammo and still flawless. One of the best $200 tax returns I ever spent. Only thing I ever did was improve the factory sights. Not really necessary but it was shooting a little lower than I like with the rear sight maxed out. So I lowered the front sight and now its dead on at seven yards. I added some super bright white porcelain repair to the sight dots and elastic hair bands on the mags to stop them from rattling.

@rbm61842 жыл бұрын
Okay. Folks might not like what I am going to say but I am going to say it. No matter what gun you get new or used you should inspect it for damage or defects before buying it. If it comes from the factory damaged or defective because you did not inspect it before buying it then you have no one else to blame but yourself. You test drive a car and look under the hood to make sure it runs properly. Do the same with any gun you are interested in buying. I recently got a Taurus 856 Defender three inch matte black stainless that I looked over for a few days before I bought it to make sure it had no problems. I passed on one at another dealer that had timing problems. Quality control of imported Taurus Brazilian pistols are worse than the Taurus pistols made in the US. Hope this one works fine for you since you never inspected it before buying it. There is a second smaller grip that also comes with the revolver in the box but I prefer the Hogue grips better. I use an Andicen IWB/OWB leather thumb break/snap holster for mine I got off Amazon. Its a nice holster with a belt loop on one side and a clip on the other so it can be worn in or outside the pants. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I normally inspect them even when I pay for them online, and if I detected a problem I would simply have them give me a different one... I have owned dozens ot Taurus revolvers over the years, and honestly, never had a single issue with any of them. Not even once. The Taurus TH9, G2C, G3C and those types that I have owned and shot, never an issue. A PT92 I had would get a FTF every couple hundred rounds but I never did figure out if it was the gun or the mag... I have heard stories about Taurus, but honestly, they have been good for me. I do know that some of their older, first gen Milennial pistols had some issues...
