I own the predecessor of this revolver... The Taurus Model 94. It's a 9 shot .22lr. I've found it to be very reliable and a ton of fun to shoot! Great review! Now, I'm interested in adding the 942 to my collection!

Great review. I am all about Taurus. Lifetime warranty for anyone who legally owns the firearm. Priced right and dependable. I own the .22 mag. Great chipmunk management tool. Also, very handy as an ankle carry or in driver seat proximity, to respond to a potential carjacker. 8 very fast shots, mine loaded with 45 gr Hornady Defense loads, ballistic tip. And the best part, beside a super firearm to introduce others to the shooting sports. The cost of plinking is a heck yes, reality of the times! 🍀😷🎯👍🇺🇸

I've seen a couple armature videos on the Taurus 942 and was excited to find one posted by the very professional 22plinkster. It was an excellent review and I was extremely delighted by his good recommendation and report. I placed an online order for a black on black 22LR version of the Taurus 942 last week and is scheduled to be delivered to my FFL dealer tomorrow. Oh Boy, Oh Boy, I've got some pesky tin cans and 1-liter water filled plastic soda bottles that need to be taught a lesson.

The first revolver I owned after I retired was a Taurus 66, 357, 6:inch barrel. Great gun, great accuracy, etc. wished I had never sold it, the second a Taurus 94, 22 lr, 3 inch barrel. I have now replaced the sold model 66 with a newer model 66, 4 inch barrel. I have just ordered the model 942, stainless, 22 lr., 3 inch barrel. I have a Ruger P89, 9 mm for over 24+ years, great gun. Good vlog,thanks.

A lot of old school revolver fan boys get threatened by Taurus. They are no means the very best but they give a good product for significantly cheaper than American made premium brands. They get the job done and make interesting revolvers to get more market share. Have they made a bad revolver? Sure but they have a lifetime warranty and every manufacturer has made a bad revolver they had to fix. The rerelease of the Python comes to mind. Give Taurus revolvers a try if you haven’t already, I own 3 and love em!

I got the black 22 WMR 3 inch last week. It cost me $311 with shipping insurance and a $20 transfer fee. Shoots accurate as far as I can tell with my not-the-steadiest hands. Went bang every time. Shot about 300 rounds of few different brands with no issues. Only got to use the chrono with the CCI Maxi Mag 40 grain. Averaged about 1130 FPS out of that 3 inch barrel. Single action is nice and double action is (of course) stiff. I’m guessing in the 10-12 lb. pull area. My lone complaint is that you have to pop it pretty good to eject shells. I know it’s not as good as a S&W but it’s solid so far and so so much less money.

Love the new bullshead grips. They don't move around at all in your hand when you shoot. They are super low profile but don't feel small in your hand or beat you up. I always reach for a revolver pinky first and the little groove for your pinky finger indexes the rest of your fingers perfectly for shooting and automatically puts your hand in a very high grip which helps to run the gun faster because the bore axis is lower. They really put a ton of research and development into those grips.

Just picked up a 2” matte black model in .22 mag for my mom, and I will say that it was pretty much shooting to poa with no adjustment out of the box. Functioned fine, and will smooth up with use, no doubt. It’s my second Taurus I’ve had experience with, the first being my grandfather’s late 80’s/early 90’s 6” model 66 .357 mag. That one needed some sight adjustment as he never shot it hardly if at all, and once there it’s been a great plinker with .38s.

Supposedly the 32LR and 32 H&R magnum rounds are pretty manageable recoil. Only problem is those guns aren't cheap and ammo is harder to find (mostly find it online).

I have this in of the 3". I absolutely love it Edit: I forgot that I had left this review and ran into it just now...update... It slipped timing right at about 150 rounds. It was under warrant, but Taurus refused to even answer or acknowledge 3 separate warranty claims by email and 3 phone calls. Only one time did i get to talk to an actual person, and as soon as I said the word "warranty", she said that I was breaking up, and hung up on me... With a quick internet search, i found that many others had the same issue when mentioning the word warranty.... literally them saying they were losing connection and then hanging up. But it gets worse... I decided to take the gun to a gunsmith since I liked it, and was willing to pay out of pocket to get it working right. The gunsmith informed me that even if I was willing to pay, they were never able to get parts from Taurus so it was not even worth trying. This is my story and it is exactly what happened,i encourage you to do some research on the internet and you will find many other people saying the same thing as me. 🤦‍♂️😢

@@paulross9287 Yeah it's nuts! Maybe it's because the alternatives are significantly lighter (to make them more appealing to carry) and that comes with added production cost. But the issue is that a $600+ price point for anything 22LR seems ridiculous unless it's competitive target pistol - you can buy a brand new Glock 19 for that price. The Taurus price point is just right. These things are hard to find right now but I just snagged one off GunBroker from Gilberts Guns for $350 and had it shipped to my LGS. I'm super happy with it!

@xr7fan I didn't say it was, did I? I know that, but that's usually the heaviest bullet weight you'll find on the shelf, and that's the heaviest I'd personally shoot out of a Snubnose revolver. If I was a masochist, I'd just smash my hand with a hammer, now wouldn't I?

First pistol I ever bought was a Taurus tracker .17hmr. It locked up on my and needed to be sent in. Heard many KZbin reviewers that don’t have money on the line (like honest outlaw) say they had the same experience with Taurus. I love cheap...but a revolver that isn’t reliable? It’s like owning a plane that doesn’t fly.

Update. Sent it to Taurus. They said the firing pin was off. They fixed it. Went to range and had the kiddos shot it. They loved it. Not a bad revolver. I carry it now rotating it with me other CCWs (Taurus 856 UL, Bobcat 22lr Baretta 21A ) . I traded it for my Rossi .38 special snubnose and I got to admit I miss my Rossi. But I don't mind ccw the Taurus 942 now. Don't want to kill nobody just get them off my tail (praying that never happens) . Shoots good now. Not a bad ccw. South TX Corpitos.

I bought one used. It fires great and is very accurate. However, spent cartridges tend to get stuck to the point where I’ve had to hammer them out. I sent it back to Taurus and they claim they changed the cylinder. Same problem. I brought it to the gunsmith where I purchased it, and he honed out each of the cylinders. He said it works fine now. We’ll see.

I recently purchased a 942 UL 22LR and did not have a good experience. From the very first cylinder I could not eject the spent casings. They had to be punched out individually. Several brands of ammo including CCI had the same result. I sent it back to Taurus and they supposedly replaced the cylinder. The very first cylinder resulted in the same thing, all casings had to be punched out individually. I had a BP gunsmith look at it and he just shrugged his shoulders. I gave up in frustration and sold it back to BP at a significant monetary loss. I have had several Taurus revolvers with never any problems. I liked the looks and feel of the 942 but this one didn't do it for me. So, I bit the bullet and purchased a S&W 331C 22LR revolver. No such problems as described with the 942, it ejects ever brand I have used in it. In my case I guess the old saying applies, you get what you pay for! Semper Fi, MGySgt USMC Retired.

Great video & awesome shooting! I got myself one and love it. I ran into some trouble using Marlin 150th ammunition 36gr, this revolver did not function well with that ammo. The rear sight I feel like it drifts a little so I might just sight it in where I want it and add some loctite. But it's a solid revolver.

After watching this video and listening carefully to your comments about the 942; I have decided to make this my first Taurus purchase. Are there instructions that accompany the revolver that show me how to hit the gong at 100 yds? Thank you sir.

Only issue or problem I've ever seen with a Taurus revolver was the screw on the right side by the trigger guard can come loose. If it were mine I'd probably remove and add blue loctite. Othr than that I've heard nothing but good things. The semi-autos I've heard less good things about but had a G2c that was always reliable...parted ways with it and it was definitely not as refined as other firearms I have, but was reliable.

The best version will be the ultra lite stainless finish. A great training revolver. Better yet a drop in your pocket woods and dog walking revolver. Back packing and back up to a rifle. Can carry large amount of spare ammo easily. Would like to see an HKS speed loader, until then a couple of speed strips in pocket and case guard 30 wallet plus ammo in revolver gives you 58 rounds. Drop a box of 50-100 in a pack and good to go. If Colt was smart , they would have chambered the new Cobra in 22lr and mag. , but we know the answer to that question.

I just recently purchased a new Taurus 942. It was defective out of the box, would not ignite any primers. Sent it back to Taurus, after waiting 3 weeks for an update they finally answered their customer service line. They said the frame was so defective they would need to destroy the firearm and issue me a new one, replacing the serial number. Wait 8 weeks for delivery and I have to do an FFL transfer AND pay for it. Just a heads up.

For home protection I always wondered about a 22lr or bigger with the first/second round being a shotshell - noise plus pain and a pattern of a foot or better at 10 feet. Next few would be hollow points. At 2am in a bathrobe I would worry about getting a hit first round. Thoughts?

Excellent Question and your situational example and the ammo you said you would use in it are what I have done in my bedside drawer revolver, and the revolver I have hidden and attached in a magnetized holster under the drivers-side dash for use against a carjacker - first two rounds are shotshell/snake-shot for a wide effective pattern of hitting them, rest of the rounds are hollowpoints/ballistic tip rounds.

I teach "Point Shooting", 12 yds combat range, close up, low light, sights can't be seen, with both eyes open. However, with a stubby, learning to shoot without the sights at very close ranges is useful. Point shooting is akin to using a slingshot or bow and arrow. See your target pull back and let it fly. Look at your target find that "spot", pull up and fire. Starting with a 22rf and with a little work, the dredded flinch can be avoided.

I've got a Ruger mark IV with a bull barrel, a Charter Arms 9 shot revolver in .22 WMR, and a PMR-30. But my EDC pouch has my old Jennings J-22 with a spare magazine, that I keep loaded with Aguila Super-Maximums, and I just bought a Rock Island Armory 1911 in .22 TCM for strong side. The TCM is a mean but magnificent beast, a full size 1911, but that .22 TCM round had almost no recoil at all, with a 40 grain slug going around 2000 feet per second. It's the loudest gun I own with an amazing fireball, but it's total tack driver with a 17 round double stack. That's a .22 with TEETH. The Charter Arms .22 WMR stinks on ice. The trigger is about 10 pound pull, it's humongous, and the cylinder lug is cheap metal that bends if you give it a stern look. I haven't gotten rid of it because I don't want to inflict it on anyone else. A truly horrible thing that only cost me the price of a transfer...and wasn't worth that much. The _Jennings,_ however, has been a solid little performer for almost 20 years of shooting. So long as you don't try to use it with Stingars. The case on that round is longer that .22 lr, and the case gets stuck in the chamber and won't extract. The Aguila ammo seems to be the best for it.
@dwarden3
@dwarden3 4 жыл бұрын
The Jennings are fine little guns as long as you change the mag spring. Click pens have stronger springs in them. I've bought dozens of the little guns and have found that was the failure point in almost all of them. Usually for 20-25 bucks, figured I use them for parts guns. Replaced mag springs and had most of them running reliably.
