Nice video thanks. I've owned this tiny pistol for years. Perfect for people who have problems with hand strength recoil or even just the weight of a regular pistol. It can be extremely accurate over 15 yards but its designed for close encounters ! Don't let anyone tell you that a 22lr bullet in the face won't leave a mark !

On the difficulty to rack the slide, I had the Beretta 21 and couldn't rack it. I was told this tip. On the 21 you can drop the hammer manually and that helped a lot. Also, instead of holding the weapon and pulling the slide back.....hold the slide and push the weapon forward. Made all the difference in the world.

I just really enjoy your video’s. Here is where I insert my standard question to all .22LR naysayers. 1. How many homicides have those naysayers worked where the weapon of choice was a .22LR ? 2. How many victim autopsies have such individuals attended where 22LR was used and collected the evidence ? 3. How many victim families have such naysayers notified that their family member was killed by such a trivial cartridge ? I can assure you, that a single shot from a .22LR is capable of dropping the human target immediately, and for good. The .22LR is capable, deadly and not to be underestimated. My experience.

In the dep of orthopedics we had an annual seminar on gun shot injuries. The statistics says that 72% of gun shot patients at the trauma center were shot by a 22 caliber and about 50% of them died. So, a 22 caliber should not be dismissed as some do. It is a deadly weapon.

I did a review of this pistol. I have fired over 200 rounds and had only one failure to eject. I used CCI mini mag 40gr round nose . It has been accurate and is super easy to clean. When I got it I had read many reviews that complained of how hard it was to rack the slide. I imagined the reviewers were maybe weak wristed sissies. The PLY22 almost tore the skin off of my hand trying to rack that darn thing. It is doable but Lordy! My main reason for liking the little devil is how easy it fits in my large front shirt pocket unlike other guns and it also has a manual safety which I like. The large width is not a factor for me at all as I find many people who have tiny narrow guns also always add a beefier grip. the PLY has a perfect grip. I do wish there was an easy way to add a laser or it came with a threaded barrel. On a negative note, I read hundreds of reviews of the gun and found a couple people that said it began autofiring on them. I discounted their reports as most often gun problems are user error. However I have been reading recent reviews at Buds guns and several people are saying recent PLY22s they bought are autofiring. By the way, the majority of the people I read complaining about the gun not firing ammo and being picky never mentioned how often they clean the gun. I still like the little mouse gun. Sootch, your video was excellent as always. I added your video review to my playlist of poly22 videos.

Interesting pistol. I was in the market for a small 22 lr and came across the phoenix arms hp 22 first a very sweet pistol in it's own right. But after some time found this as it was my initial choice of the two for 250.00 I got this as my desk gun for my living room as it easy to conceal. I have discovered it's an ideal day gun for times walking in the park or having something small and accurate. This covers a lot of uses and my wife loves it for plinking. Sweet pistol. Note the trigger pull is long and heavy . Due to the fact I use more revolvers that autos this is very comfortable to me

I've owned two alloy framed PT22's over the years. Both frames broke around the pin that the tip-up barrel pivots on. They were lightweight, concealable, easy to point shoot and comfortable to carry. My only gripe is the metal used in the frame and the inherent weaknesses of the tip-up barrel frame design. Was my ATM gun. A gun you carry in your jeans or coat pocket if you have to visit an ATM at night when you live and / or work in a dangerous part of town.

I have the older metal PT22. After a few modifications it stopped being a Jam-O-Matic. I also use either CCI Mini Mags (higher power) or Subsonic (heavier 40gr round) and it cycles fine. It's thirsty though and likes to be oiled more often than most pistols to cycle clean. I always wanted to try out the PT25 (.25 cal), but haven't been able to get my hands on one. I wanted to see if they'd consider making a PT380, but I'm not sure if the mechanics would work out... and there are already so many .380 pocket/mouse guns out there.

Never rule out a 22lr for self defense. I have dispatched many raccoons, coyotes and beaver with a .22 pistol while trapping and all died very quickly. With that, I have a Beretta Bobcat that is in my pocket whenever I have pants on. It makes for a reliable always on me gun and backup to my main carry gun when loaded with CCI mini mags. There is no tough guy out there that will take 8 .22 bullets to the face/throat without either breaking contact with you or allowing you to be able to beat the snot out of them.

But that's only assuming you're a marksman and can accurately fire all those 8 .22lr rounds into the attacker's head and/or throat in the heat of the moment. God forbid, if my choice of a caliber is down to a .22lr and nothing else is available, I'd choose a revolver chambered in that caliber over a semi-auto like the Taurus PT22. The margin for error is very minimal with that caliber and I'd rather have a firearm that's not gonna fail on me.

@@shikat2371 If you look at the statistics, I think it is fair to say that .22 if more than sufficient to stop any attacker who is not completely deranged and in a state completely detached from their basic instincts with a maximum of two shots landed. @@gmro-ronosinski5102 I bought an older 22 model from a friend. He said it was a jam o matic and hated it. Well, he wasn't lying lol ! I cleaned and oiled it and called Taurus to see what ammo they recommended. They said ONLY 22 LR- 40gr FMJ round nose. So I loaded it up with CCI Mini mags. Jam,jam, jam. I never had an auto not feed them ! So I tried 4 other 40gr FMJ rounds. None would even make it through a magazine without multiple failures. I finally tried some not recommended 38gr Federal hollow points. They worked great ! Then, I tried some lead round nose 40gr Thunderbolts. Not recommended either. Worked great ! I tried a few more not recommended rounds and had bad luck with them. So after all my experimenting - it only worked with 2 types of ammo. Both not recommended by Taurus. Luckily, I only paid $50 for the gun. My buddy told me he felt bad asking that for it. I just find it very odd that the gun only worked with 2 brands of ammo out of the many different I tried. And both Taurus told me not to use. I just never could really trust it to carry as a pocket pistol after all the times it choked on me when I was testing it out. I ended up selling it, with 100 rounds of the ammo it did work with, to a buddy for $50. I just found it very odd that it would not run with the factory recommended ammo, and only worked with 2 types of ammo Taurus told me not to use.

Too bad the parts aren't interchangeable, so you could put the Beretta trigger in it to have DA/SA (for pretty cheap). DAO, hammer fired is perfect for pocket carry! I would carry this handgun without a pocket holster BUT they are subject to the pop-up barrel being released if carried in a pocket without a pocket holster. Unfortunately, the gun bulks up with a pocket holster and has the size and weight of a polymer .380 like a Ruger LCP II or S&W Bodyguard. (the S&W is also DAO hammer fired) Still...if you WANT a .22 for pocket carry, this is an excellent choice.

By the way, when removing the slide after double checking the gun is completely unloaded, gently squeeze the trigger while pulling the slide FORWARD, it will pop out without you struggling. If I remember correctly this was the way it was done in an old Taurus how to video for cleaning the gun. This has a magazine safety so once you remove it, you can squeeze the trigger to let the hammer back (it won't go far with the magazine safety) allowing the slide to be removed very easy.

I had one of the old models and shot thousands of rounds through it. Fun gun to shoot. My kids even shot hundreds of rounds in it. It was shot so much that it wore the gun out. Thinking about buying this model. Cool stuff.

I carry one daily in my right cargo pocket. It is intended as a woodchuck plinker but it is also a backup and a cheap way to pop off some rounds every once in a while.

Rimfire rounds occasionally fail to fire due to being a rimfire. With the PT-22 for a bad round (again not an uncommon issue) you have to tilt barrel up remove the round that failed to fire then either replace that round and seat the barrel, or then rack a new round. Not Good, even for a “backup weapon”.

I have had a couple pt22s, and owned a beretta 21a. I noticed the beretta is way smoother feeling, and the fit and finish was better (granted it was like 12 years ago). The pt22 was less ammo picky. My beretta has been reliable till 2 days ago when i shot a bulk box I bought. The beretta will eat mini mags all day like nothing though. The sights are better on the Taurus but still not great. I don’t remember a single jam with the Taurus though. If it is for carry and you are meticulous at cleaning and use good ammo buy the beretta. If you are just wanting it to eat and eat try the Taurus

12:05 I keep hearing how Taurus has really stepped up its game on quality and reliability, but here's another example of little annoying issues that Taurus owners deal with and either learn to put up with, tinker with or spend the money to ship it back for repair/ replacement. My original PT-22 slide cracked in two at the web under the front of the barrel within the first 100 rounds of standard pressure .22LR. The shot broke and then "ping", almost sounded like the last shot of my M1, the slide came of and up landing on the ground. Called Taurus, shipped it back at my expense, a week later received a whole new PT-22 with upgraded rosewood contoured grips, my original was the base model with slab grips. Ok, cool...first shot out of the box, tip broke off the firing pin. Ugh. Called back, shipped it back at my expense again because they would just send me a new firing pin, a couple of weeks later same gun and new firing pin. Put it in the safe and didn't shoot it for at least five years. Took it to the range and this time it made through two recreational target shoots of a couple hundred rounds of standard pressure rounds and noticed a hairline crack in the webbing of the slide while cleaning it. Shipped it back at my expense again and received a 3rd new PT-22. IT'S UNFIRED IN MY SAFE, NIB, NEARLY 20 YEARS LATER! I didn't sell it because I didn't want to pass on this problem to someone else. Lesson learned, the best warranty on a sub-par product just tells you it's a guaranteed POS. Buy a Beretta if you want a Beretta, buy a S&W if you want a S&W, buy a Taurus if you want a superbly guaranteed POS. Looks like nothing has really changed, they've just gotten better at hiding it.

Plenty of Taurus PT111, G2C, and G3C with dead triggers. (Search KZbin for “Taurus dead trigger.) It happened to me several times when dry-firing a G2C at a gun store. I have a TX22 for plinking, but I would not rely on any Taurus firearm for self-defense, as their quality is still hit-or-miss (or maybe “hit or no fire” is more accurate). Sure, they have a warranty; hard to make a warranty claim when you’re dead.

People always say this but NEVER mention that the Sig p320 wasn't drop safe or the 1st 365 has nation-wide firing pin failures. Walther CCP AND PPS had a recall. @@AOMartialArts : False equivalency. Unlike with the other products you mentioned, there is no evidence that Taurus has fixed the dead trigger problem - probably because to save money they keep re-using the same trigger parts, going back to the PT111. In fact, owners of the latest G3C report having the same problem.
