I have seen shops who will install drain plugs on the transfer case (ptu) and even the rear differential. I know somebody who had a sho and a shop lied about servicing the ptu and it costed about $2k to have it replaced. And in my opinion I'd rather spend money and my own personal time to change my fluids and know the job is actually done.

On my Trans fluid drain on ramps only 2 qts came out. Level back to good adding 2 fresh qts. Noted two trans drain plugs on my 2014? Used most rearward one. They are both simple little hex (four sided) plugs. Wondering if I need to get it on a lift (level) and pull both plugs??

You can get to the drain plug with a long extension from the passenger wheel well

I know, but I still need to be able to put drain pump hose in it and then fill hose and it's just not going to work, I am drilling plug on the bottom next week

Oil filter just tighten it enough to squeeze the gasket 20lbs not 60-100lbs

I have the same car and I noticed in my car that connection device u were pointing to at the beginning of the video which you referred to as the noisemaker has some minimal oil residue around it and under it. I was wondering if you have noticed that with your car as well and if you have any ideas what it means

Dealers will not do any PTU oil service, they believe its life time warranty and will not touch it, its up to end user to do something about it. thats why PTU only has fill plug, to top off oil only.

Fluid changes should be the same, although I understand the SHO transmission is different. Don't think the PTU's are. But I watched his videos on PTU's (and several others), and people were removing the right front wheel and using an extension to get to the fill plug. No matter how I try, I can't even get eyes on it on mine. Seems to be some sort of bolt-on cover where it should be.

@@floridaman6138 Hey guys! Next weekend I will post a video on how to change the PTU Fluid on a 2013 Ford Police Interceptor Sedan. Its actually pretty simple without remove the down pipe. All you need is a 1/2 allen bit and a small 1/4 ratchet. I will also post on how to extend the PTu vent tube where you can refill the PTU from on top of the engine bay instead of the fill hole that is hard to get at.

What year is your car? I have a 2016 and Ford really DOES NOT WANT to change out PTU oil. They said wait till fail and change PTU? WHAT? Mickey Mouse punks. Then they said over $600 for PTU. Have to drop catalytic converters? Do you have to do all that? I NEVER can find a video on a 2016.

In the winter I run 0-30W oil, have you considered this? I need to do some major work to my SHO (torque converter) but has anyone else done the water pump? Due to questionable the design of the 3.5 you might want to considered replacing that around 100K. It is doable in the car, not easy but doable. I also replaced the timing chain and tensioner at the same time. If anyone has dropped their transmission i would definitely like to hear from you.

I haven't seen any vids on the water pump change done with the engine still mounted. I heard it is possible that way. I am curious about the job. How long did it take you?

@@supafly322 It is pretty straight forward. You remove the engine mount and have to tilt the engine to clear the front of the crankshaft. Valve covers need to come off, and I think I was able to keep the intake manifold on. It is a long job, I would say a full weekend job for sure.

@@666hobart Thanks, I got the torque converter done at a local shop. I did not have the space in the garage with my other project car on jackstands. The water pump, was a weekend job, kind of a pain, but doable with basic hand tools for the most part.

It's not accessible, you have to take the trans apart, I'm going to be putting an inline filter on my return cooler line soon on mine.

It's fine. This is dinosaur thinking. Run a good product and let it go for a bit longer to make up the price performance. It's far better to run a quality oil a bit longer than a cheap oil.
