About 5 months ago we were shooting 9mm blazer brass out of a revolver, we had noticed the brass expanding and having to manually pull the brass out. Switched to a box of Remington and Winchester and never had a problem. Side note, we have still had expanding brass problems with Blazer brass with a different box and series run.

.357mag (& 38 Super...sort of), 38 special, 38 Long Colt, 38 Short Colt, 9mm, and .380auto. That's a pretty versatile spread. Maybe that .380 you tried had hard primers. The Underwood stuff seemed to fire just fine. For ultimate magnum loads, look to Buffalo Bore, DoubleTap, and Grizzly. Underwood is great too, but not to the level of the others in rimmed revolver cartridges, typically their forte is in semi-auto rimless cartridges.

I have an Astra model 1921/400. Historically we have always been told because of the alchemy applied to the design of this guns chamber, they you can shoot just about any 9mm caliber. It is officially chambered for 9mm Largo/9x23mm. I have shot 9mm Largo/9x23, 9mm Luger/9x19 and 380acp/9x17, in this particular example. I experienced no problems with the first two calibers but it is less reliable with 380. Like you I experienced light primer strikes occasionally. In a previous example of the Astra 400 at a time when surplus 9x23 was unavailable I used exclusively 9mm Luger and would experience the occasional failure to extract. The extractor would slip off the rim and leave a loaded round in the chamber if I tried to unload it. This never happened when I shot the round in the chamber. Best practice is to always use only the ammunition the gun is chamberd for, but hey I shoot 32 S&W long in my 1895 Nagant.
@triggerbarPhD7 ай бұрын
That’s awesome, I hadn’t heard of the Astra, seems like a great gun. I haven’t gotten a hold of any 9x23 and not sure it would fire in mine but I’m also not sure why it wouldn’t. But as you said, probably not reliable because the gun wasn’t made for it. Thanks again!!

Just bought one and took it out today. First time I unloaded the clip for 9mm, one of the tines broke off. I would say keep it to 9mm, or .38+p / .357. In a defense situation with the loud ports and flash, I'd opt for .38+p rather than blow my eardrums out with minimal to no gain on a 3" barrel with .357.
@triggerbarPhD2 ай бұрын
I like the TK customs clips instead of the factory ones. They suck. I think I got mine on Amazon but that’s the name of the place that makes them and you can buy them direct from TK customs.

Flash from ported guns aren't an issue. The flash from the muzzle and and especially the cylinder gap will be more than what's coming out of the ports anyway.

.357 out of a 2"-3" barrel is significantly more powerful than a 38+p out of a 2"-3". Check LuckyGunner's test results along with plethora of other sources for undebatable proof of this.

Try shooting the 380 ammo in single action. In single action the hammer is pulled back farther which allows for a little more energy as it hits the transfer bar.

@@triggerbarPhD The .357 mag was shooting 180 grain bullets. Law of physics. Heavier bullet, loaded to the same pressure; its gonna be slower. Load it up to the same speed, you end up with too much pressure. Sure the pistol will handle the 180 grainers, but don't expect magnum speed of 1300 to 1400 fps.
@triggerbarPhD7 ай бұрын
yes very true but still overall foot-lbs of energy was on the low end for 357 mag. But good point.

@@bobbyfurr8780 158-160 is about the optimal zone for the .357mag, where velocity and weight sort of peak. However, the best 180gr examples on the market reach 1,000 ft-lb from a 6-inch revolver.

Yes .357 to .355 are safe for 9mm bullets. When I’m reloading usually in the site I get them from will say which cartridge the bulllet was intended for. That’s mostly for speed and if the bullet can handle it. Ie a 357 mag cartridge will fire a bullet much faster than 380 acp.

Seems to be true to the box saying 1150 fps, so seems like a good training ammo to me, would love to hear what you think and test it as.
