I purchased my Taurus TX22 in early July, 2024. I had no issues with the sight adjustment screws. I polished the ramp and sprayed the magazines with Lucas Mist Speed Wax, loaded them with Winchester ammo and a week later went to try it at the Range. The pistol performed flawlessly. Shot 150 rounds that day. Good video. Thank you for your information. God Bless the Republic.

Reliable and accurate for any handgun. 16 round factory mags make for a great bit of fun. It's the perfect gun for new comers and a great addition for enthusiasts. Bought 2 so far. One for each hand
@rlnaughton3 жыл бұрын
The issue is usually not the ammo. Try thoroughly cleaning your magazine with a mag brush and then rotate the freshly cleaned one with the non cleaned one to determine if there is a difference. There are vids out there where the FTF issues completely subside with the cleaned/oiled magazine. I have tested this with my TX22 with several types of ammo, including lower quality ammo and virtually no FTF. Clean the mags about every 400- 500 rounds.
@efreutel Жыл бұрын
Sorry, but never oil a magazine. Oil on the outside of the bullet case results in incomplete sealing and allows gas blowback which will damage the chamber and throat. Oil will also attract dirt and grit.

I just bought my tx22. Cleaned it and oiled it. I bought 1000 rounds of bulk Remington ammo. Went out and shot 500 rounds. No one issue. Was very close to dialed in on sight. A little adjustment and it was very accurate, even up to 60 yards. Not one malfunction. I was impressed especially since I only paid $250.00

One of my viewers recommended me to this video, apparently so I could see your stinger squib. In my review video of the pistol, I too had a squib load or two from a stinger, only I failed to recognize I had a squib because there was zero recoil and zero report. It did not exit the barrel and the next round slammed into it. It is my belief that there wasn't any gunpowder at all in that particular round, that only the primer was present, which was just enough propulsion to stick the bullet in the barrel silently. I posted a few follow up videos of it as well, recounting my experience with CCI and Taurus customer service. In short, CCI basically called me a liar and said I didn't have a squib load, that is until I showed them the footage and then they completely did a 180 once they saw my proof. But it was too late, because they lost a lifelong customer by calling him a liar, and many other customers who watched the videos. CCI has gone downhill since they were aquired by ATK/Vista Outdoors. Shame, because I used to swear by their brand...

Why does it seem like so many US firearms and ammunition companies have taken a turn for the worse in the last decade or so? I wonder if the day is coming when all of our guns and ammunition will be produced overseas.

Good review HR. I purchased a TX22 when they first came out and I also have had a "checkered" experience with Taurus.(That was very kind of you ) It has been a fun plinker and relatively accurate and reliable as you found. I did have to replace the barrel. Taurus sent me a new one as well as a new rear sight. The original barrel had the lands cut differently on either side of the barrel. One side was visibly thicker than the other. The You tube guys called "Hammer-Striker" have a good video describing this condition with the early barrels. This has been corrected by Taurus with a new barrel vendor. Hope the rifle match went well.

Ben very fortunate with mine. Some of the loads I've shot without or little malfunctions are, cci standard, mini mags, stingers, cci blazer, Federal bulk, Remington thunderbolts, Winchester wildcats and white box bulk, Aguila hyper, Browning and Ely. All of these are 500 rounds or better. The malfunctions could be counted on 2 hands and they were always ammo related. The majority was Winchester bulk. Good trigger, excellent reliability and ammo capacity. Taurus hit a homerun with this pistol.

My Browning Buckmark is still my best 22 pistol. I have had very little issues, and if I did it was the ammo. I also just sent back my new S&W victory 22. The issue is not ejecting the casing while chambering a new round. I hope they can correct the issue.

I saw another video review of the TX22 shooting CCI Stinger ammo that squibed. The other video had the squib NOT leave the barrel causing a very dangerous blockage that ruined the TX22 barrel. The barrel did contain the explosion but bulged and was unsafe at that point in the review. Attempts to get the problem resolved by CCI failed, but Taurus replaced the barrel, no questions asked. I count that as two thumbs up for Taurus and two thumbs down for CCI.

The thing I like about mine is that it's a real striker fired works 16 round capacity it wil eat any kind of ammo it's light weight even loaded the size is like a full size pistol and it fits the hand very nice the trigger wasn't bad but I found it slightly mushy I've never used one like it before I thought I would get use to it but eventually I replaced it with the flat apex trigger with set screws yo adjust until you get it just where you like it all and all I give a B+ for the money it can't be beat.

There was another recent KZbin test of the TX22 where the shooter had a big problem with CCI ammo too. He had a squib load but did not check for a clear barrel before blowing out the next case. He thought that the first bullet had too little powder, and the second had too much powder! He removed the blown case, assumed that the bullet had exited the barrel from an overpressure from too much powder, and fired yet another bullet. That one DID clear out first two stuck bullets because the barrel was bulged. He blamed it all on the CCI ammo, and KEPT SHOOTING to see if the gun would still work with a bulged barrel! It did! THANK YOU for demonstrating that you should be certain that the barrel be clear if the report and recoil is odd before continuing shooting.................................elsullo

For a new shooter (regardless of male or female) I don’t know that I would recommend a semi-auto pistol, especially if it’s the first firearm the person will own/shoot. Rather, I would suggest a good quality revolver. Once the shooter masters basic marksmanship, safety, and handling, he or she might want to try a semi-auto (or maybe not).

I have a Browning Buckmark 5.5 .22LR pistol and love it, but it takes a lot of tightening of the sight assembly and grip panels to keep it accurate. If your wanting ammo in 22LR l have found the CCI 40 grain mini mag for me has the best reliability in every kind of 22LR gun l own if you want it to go bang 99.9 percent of the time or your life depends on it CCI 22LR 40 grain mini mag is my choice don't worry about hollow points in this caliber 22LR in a short barrel under 6 inches say 3 to 4 inches because velocity under 975 fps they don't expand in a 16 inch rifle going 1200 fps or more is a different story hollow points work best with velocity 1100 fps or more in handgun calibers that's very hard to do with a 3 or 4 inch barrel gun 22LR using 40 grain ammo most are 875 fps to 1000 fps

HR has been one of my very few reviewers I trust. I base this on guns I own he has reviewed that are exactly what he said. I have 2 I bought directly as a result of his reviews. That being said, I am glad to see this review as have a interest in this gun. Hard for me to buy Taurus based on friends/families PAST experiences. It is made at their new plant in Alabama which is a plus in my eyes. The cost of one where we live is full MSRP and in some cases I think above if you can find one that is. We have been ruined by our Browning 22 we bought in 1998- not ammo sensitive and accurate. Thanks for review!!!!

Your review is very much appreciated.For me, it provides a good time to pose a question that has been on my mind for a while. At my club, I pick up many, many fired but complete .22 rounds usually in LR. As a kid, I happily shot thousands of rounds of .22LR and I just can't remember any misfires. So, is this a recent development or was I just incredibly lucky?

As I think about it, I don’t remember as many misfires back in the day either. I wonder if the factories are cranking out rimfire ammo so fast these days that quality control is starting to suffer.

Every single .22 auto pistol I've ever owned was less than 100% reliable and pretty ammo picky. The Walther P22 I had would only eat stingers, the Ruger SR22 I had never shot accurately, but would cycle almost anything and my vintage Hi-Standard Olympic doesn't like any ammo (but that could be age). I remember the Walther having a substantially long break in period though (about 300 rounds) before it wouldn't stovepipe the last round.

Any recommendations for a first-timer's gun for a woman? I've only fired at an indoor range once. I have fairly good aim in general, but obviously would need to practice. Also curious if there are other more benign defense weapons that deter trespassers/attackers from a distance? thanks!
@hrfunk4 жыл бұрын
Yes. My first recommendation would be to try shooting several different types of handguns to see what you feel most comfortable with. I usually try to steer new defensive shooters toward a good double-action revolver. They are very easy to use and they are usually very reliable. Even so, if you also try a few semiautomatic pistols you will be in a better position to decide for yourself what works best for you. With regard to other options for use in a defensive encounter, there are many. There are myriad chemical, electric, impact, and bladed options. Knowing nothing about you, I can't intelligently make any suggestions other than to research what is available. It is wise to have an option (or two) other than a firearm, but be certain you understand how/when to employ that option and practice so as to become proficient in its (their) use. Good luck and thanks for watching!

I did read the manual and it indicated the sight should be adjusted as I explained. I believe the top screw simply secured the sight to the slide.

A couple of observation, reference to myself and this firearm. Gun makers have been trying to sell guns that have triggers that break way back for people with small hands. I have large hands, this, BTW, was pointed out by Hickok 45, about the trigger breaking way back and his large hands. The trigger breaks forward in this gun and I love it! this trigger breaks at 90 degrees, perfect for a person with large hands. Another gun I prefer is the Sig P-365, because of the same trigger effect. When the trigger breaks way back against the frame, my trigger finger tendency is to wrap around the trigger just before it breaks and causes me to want to shoot low left. Not with this trigger !!! I can pull straight back all the way to the break point. People with arthritic hands will also appreciate this! The other item for me is that I like this manual safety because of the fact that it is stiff to engage and easy to disengage. I prefer no manual safety anyway, my safety is between my ears. Training to shoot a gun with an engaged manual safety adds an additional step, sometimes forgotten when under psychological stress, I have seen this even during timed competition, not even during "real" situation under duress. Nice job for your thought provoking, thorough evaluation! I own a TX-22 Compact and I so far have had a perfect experience.....knock on wood!

Not to mention l really like the TX because it breaks down like most larger caliber handguns and doesn't have a fixed barrel like just about any other 22LR pistol the TX barrel comes out of the slide after removing the guide rod and spring for cleaning that to me is a big plus

I’m not disagreeing, but I’m genuinely asking, why is that a plus?

Great video. I can tell you that the TX22 HATES Winchester M*22 and Federal bulk. Mine seems to like Aguila, with only 3 FTF over 200 rounds. I gave up at the range when shooting the Winchester M*22. Thank you for the ammo info.

My new Tx22 loves Mini Mags for now. I shot 300 last week for the first time shooting it and ate it like a champ, no issues other than my time was up at the range. Will try other ammo, but I am sticking to 40 grain only so for sure will try Aguila.

Taurus needs to bring the TS9 here. It looks almost like that. The tx22 has a great grip angle and it shoots anything I put in it.

My TX22 has been flawless with all types of 22lr ammo... with one little defect. 90% of my bullets ended up tumbling and hitting sideways. I contacted Taurus and they said they will send me a new barrel. Based on the some threads on the Taurus forums, they contracted another company to make their barrels now.

I wonder how Winchester .22 ammo would have worked in your TX22. I've been dancin' all around the TX22 as a training pistol for The Lovely Bride and a "trail/kit gun" for myself the last few months, but I'm starting to think maybe I should start looking for a good, clean, lightly used Ruger Mk1 for those purposes. I hope you had the best of luck at the rifle match you attended and I'm really looking forward to your evaluation of the G2C....Since I keep one by the bed and I'm carrying it during our rather humid South Carolina summer this year....Personal note: I keep it and my two spare magazines loaded with standard power JHP 124grn ammo and it functions perfectly (to date) and shoots to point of aim....But maybe I've just been lucky so far....Bearing in mind I'm NOT a big fan of the 9mm and tend to prefer and shoot "better" with handguns chambered in calibers that start with a "4".

Thank you! Given my choice between the two, I would opt for the Ruger .23 (and I’m not the world’s biggest Ruger fan). The G2C review will be coming next Saturday. I hope you like it!

Interesting. I used to shoot a ton of CCI Stingers and don't ever remember a dud round. I am trying to pick a 22 Semi for my wife and I to practice on. The Taurus looks good but there are many video's with some odd malfunctions. Some blame the mags and some ammo type..

What is the point and purpose of measuring the trigger pull with the device?
@hrfunk4 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, the lighter the trigger on a particular firearm, the easier it is to shoot that firearm quickly and accurately. The device (gauge) measure's the trigger pull weight of the firearm being reviewed.

I put roughly 1000 rounds with my Taurs TX before I had a single misfire, and I blame it entirely on my not cleaning and lubing it prior to that last shooting session. Also I was using subsonic ammo which might have been contributing to the misfire.

There are advantages to using firearms that use unfamiliar operating controls. It provides learning to adapt to changing positions to correct the point of impact of different firearms. There are excellent adjustable sights and terrible ones too; small combat style models never have much room for adjustment being so small. All rimfire 22 pistols shoot more accurately with ammunition made for pistols. Bulk pack ammo is seldom as accurate as quality target ammo and causes more reliability issues in both rifles and pistols. There are many brands that function well and fewer that provide exceptional accuracy. Rimfire magazines are quirky and loading high capacity ones are the worst. Rims lock over each other and you have an instant failure to feed every time. I believe this not an issue with the pistol. What I believe is during the time of the shortage of rimfire ammunition. Manufactures rushed to produce rimfire ammunition and much of it came at the cost of quality control. Stingers have been around since 1975 and mini-mags since 1963. The realm of the 22 rimfire is worldwide and choices are endless. The most reliable 22 uses a 40-grain bullet and travels at 1200 feet per-second. The load functions in pistols, revolvers and rifles and produces good results. It sure is not Olympic class but it doesn’t cost $25 dollars a box. Great review for an affordable pistol. Try comparing rimfire accuracy to centerfire accuracy and see what happens. It would be fun to see those results.

I am going to stick with my Smith and Wesson Victory and my Buckmark!! You were very kind to this pistol!! I have a Ruger SR22 that is only a little better than the Taurus!! I also have a Ruger MARK IV and it shoots well. These 22's that replicate a larger 9mm all seem to have issues. I own some and have shot others and everyone of them has one or more Issues. The three above that I have(SW Victory , Buckmark and Ruger Mark IV) all shoot well. I have gotten rid of my others or don't shoot them anymore. I have two older Taurus 22 revolvers and they are terrible. They won't even take them in on trade for something else at my local gun stores. Thanks for letting me vent on crappy 22 pistols!!!!

Seems accurate enough. And honestly, lots of .22's are a bit picky about ammo. For that price point, I'd say it looks pretty good. The ONLY real beef I'd pick is that on a .22, which is always going to be primarily a target and plinking pistol, I'd really like to see them shave about 1 to 2 lbs. off that trigger pull.

I think the trigger is set as it is in an effort to replicate Center-fire defensive pistols.

So, it fits nothing....haha I've had a decent amount of G2C holster requests. At one point, they were under $200 in most places. Son has a M99 and I had a M92. They were as reliable as their Beretta counterparts but lacked in fit and finish. I have a PT1911 that is as good or better than any Colt 1911 that I have fired. Of course, while I love my PT1911 and have won many competitions with it, I am really not a fan of the 1911. All that being said, great video once again my friend. Good shooting!
