To be honest, I don't care if the "snake oil" style methods described on these forums provide 100% function in the G44 or not. The lack of an out of box threaded barrel option, the limited capacity, and crappy sights along with the finicky nature of the Glock make this gun a no go for me. I mean, seriously, it already takes longer to load mags than to empty them while on the range. I don't want to have to stand on one leg, hold my breath, and raise my left eyebrow exactly 3 millimeters to make the gun work with cheap, readily available ammo. It feels weird to say this, especially since I EDC a G19 or G17 pretty much every day, but gimme the Taurus over the Glock in this case. Thank you for putting out this kind of content and not toeing the industry line, Tim. It means the world to me, and I'm sure to others as well.

Everything from Aguila Super Extra high velocity, CCI Mini Mags, CCI Stingers, CCI Velocitors, to Winchester SuperX high velocity hollow points all work great. @Willie Wonka I've always had good luck from Taurus handguns. But when I've ordered spare mags from them or talked to their customer service, I've received horrible service from very unhelpful, very rude employees. I keep hearing Taurus is under new management and their customer service has improved. But I dealt with them just a year ago. I ordered 2 mags from them for a 22 pocket auto I had. It took multiple phone calls-many taking an hour to be answered, if at all. When someone did pick up the phone, they were extremely rude and extremely unhelpful. After several months of this crap, I told then I could have walked to Brazil and back by now and picked then up, they hung up on me. Finally, after over 10 months of this crap, I finally received my 2-overpriced magazines in the mail. I sold the pistol and have vowed to never get another Taurus. I'm not buying a gun from a company that has rude employes and take 10 months to deliver 2 mags or parts I need. Oh, and before that mess, I had bought a used Taurus 45 auto double action pistol. It had a weak magazine button spring. Taurus wanted to charge me $15 for that $2 spring. They said the spring was $7-postage was $8! I asked about the lifetime guarantee. They informed me I had to send the gun to them, on my $, for them to honor their warranty. I told the guy I wasn't paying that kind of money for postage to mail a gun to them so they could install a simple spring that I could do in 10 minutes or less. And I wasn't paying $15 for a spring that was pribably worth $2 and should be free under their lifetime warranty. They hung up on me that time too. I sold the gun to a buddy, cheap, as is. I remembered after I got that 22 why I sold that 45. I will not do business with a company that is rude, unhelpful and doesn't wasn't to honor their guarantee. Taurus- decent guns-but horrible service when you need customer support.
@shadowwolf76224 жыл бұрын
@Willie Wonka Thanks for listening to my rant! Lol. I guess I had to let that out. Anyway, yeah, going to a local gunsmith would probably be a good idea if your Taurus needs work done on it. I've honestly had great luck overall with their guns over the years. When I was young and 1st married, my wife and I both had Taurus handguns. Me a 38 snub and a 92-9mm. Her, a 38 snub. I swore by them and highly recommended them to others. But after a couple of interactions with their CS, I really started having different thoughts about the company. I've had a lot of guns over the years. From cheap to not to cheap, and many in between. My current primary carry guns are a Glock 40 and an older model Rossi 38. Back before Taurus owned them. I'm far from a gun snob. I even own 4 Hi Points. And to be honest-Hi Point customer service is probably the best in the business. And Glock has treated me really good on my last couple interactions with them. I've had some friends tell me Berreta can be pretty unhelpful. I do judge a company a lot by their CS. Any gun can have a problem.How the company takes care of That problem and how they treat customers needing spare parts and magazines is very important to me. And I just don't like doing business with the companies that have crappy and unfriendly CS.

I honestly think that even if the Glock 44 was 100% reliable, it still pales in comparison with the TX22. • The Glock 44 has a polymer slide, the TX22 has a machined aluminum slide. • The Glock 44 holds 10+1 rounds, the TX22 holds 16+1. • The Glock 44 *does not* come with a treaded barrel, the TX22 does. The Glock 44 is in the mid-$300 range, the TX22 is in the mid-$200 range. It really seems like Glock as a company didn't even try with the Glock 44.

I think there's a big gap between the marketing hype of the G44 and the actual pistol they put into customers hands. Clearly the gun isn't "legendary" if the standard for such status is extremely reliability, ease of use and compatibility with a wide variety of ammo. Like you said, Colt nailed it decades ago, as did Ruger... and others. Taurus nailed it more recently and did so for $100 less while providing 16 round mags and a threaded barrel for that price. There's nothing legendary about the G44 other than it's just another Glock, and more fickle than its centerfire counterparts in my experience.

Okay now that that's out of the way if a gun, especially a .22, takes that much care to load. Is that picky on ammo. Takes different training to use, having to slingshot versus using the slide release ( I'm with MAC, if it wasn't meant to be used as a release then they would NOT have textured the top surface). I totally get the part about making sure that you don't get rim lock in loading the mags. Plus it costs more. All that adds up to a no go for me. I picked one up earlier today along with a box of Agulia 40grain. When I got back me and my buddy ran around 100 rds through it without an issue. After that I took it up to my parent's house and me and my dad ran probably 50 rds through it, again just fine. When my sister got there me and her went out to shoot it again and we both shot a full mag. She had one FTF with a light strike but other than that it ran flawlessly. All I have ran through it so far is the Agulia, and I only bought those because the two cheapest 500rd boxes were them and the Remington Thunderbolts and I know Thunderbolts are crap ammo. I hadn't read anything about the G44's prefrence for heavier bullets until after I made my purchase. Tomorrow I'll try to run some lighter weight bulk Federals through it and see how they do.

Just subscribed, excellent video. As a NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, I usually start my students with a .22 to get their shooting form right without worrying about the recoil. I bought the G44 thinking it would be an easy trainer to go from to a 9mm. I had a totally different experience than you have with your gun. I threw the rounds into the magazine, shot all kinds of ammo from mini mags to blazer brass, some really crap ammo and had no problems. I must give a caveat, however, I shot no 36 grain. All I shot was 38 grain and higher. It shot CCI standard velocity with no problem and functioned flawlessly with ammo I had. In 1200 rounds I had only one failure and I believe it was due to ammunition failure. I think perhaps the functionality varies from gun to gun and Glock should have continued testing and tweaking this gun before bringing it out. By the way, I am not a Glock fanboy, I have several kinds of pistols including S&W, Ruger, Sig, and Taurus. Thanks for the video!

Justin Bellio while I’m hesitant to purchase the 44, .22 ammo is NOT inherently without issues. I have been a firearms instructor since the late 1980’s and teach many classes every year. When people show up with .22s for class I cringe because the ammo itself is inherently unreliable. It’s simply the design of the rim fire cartridge and it’s primer system. It’s also a very dirty cartridge and most people don’t clean them. I have numerous.22 weapons and all of them have issues from time to time, mainly due to the ammo. But if you clean them properly and use good 40 grain ammo such as mini mags you’ll have fewer problems.

I traded in a p22 on the tx22 because the Walther had issues for many years and never improved. I loved the look and feel of the Walther over the Taurus, but function is 100% the most important thing to me. Going to take the mags of the TX22 apart and clean them as many people have stated this fixed their issue. Have two other Taurus guns and they shoot everything and never malfunction. I believe the TX will be a great gun when I get the magazines working properly.

I have a Taurus TX 22 and even with one in the chamber, 17 rds total, 100% function rate with bulk back ammo under $20.00 per 555 rds. But it still cannot eat cheap, fun Federal bulk pack ammo, even if you stand on your head and chew gum while loading the Glock mags. I’m glad to see that it can work with the Remington bulk ammo (which, in my experience, is not nearly as bad as people say), but you should not have to do all that you did to get it to work. @@leemitchell7879 I hate Harley. Why pay $30k for a bike when you can buy a Suzuki,Honda that has the same or more features for less than 10k? Unless they just like how shitty ass sounding loud they make them?

Because Glock made one lemon out of all the models they’ve made since they first started as a company, people should shit on them? On the flip side, Taurus finally made a gun that’s better than a Glock. Whee. Let’s just forget all the crap guns Taurus has made, including the handgun that fires on its own when you shake it.

The G44 reminds me of the Sig Mosquito that I bought and promptly traded back in. I have several perfectly functioning .22 handguns so I know it's possible and don't doubt the TX-22 is good. One that I have that has been absolutely perfect, that I don't hear about often, is the S&W M&P .22 Compact. Mine has suppressor height sights and threaded barrel from the factory and shoots great. Would love to see how it compares to the G44. Sadly, it is also restricted to 10rd magazines, but it works great.

I love my Taurus. It is a blast to shoot and just eats up any ammo I run. I mostly buy cheap bulk 22 and never have a problem with the gun itself. Out of about 700 rounds I have had 3 failure to fires, that I think that is more just because its 22lr and not the gun itself.

I love glocks, and have a few. They make my favorite handguns on the market today. That being said, the 44 is garbage.

So why would somebody buy a G44 when they can buy a quality firearm like the TX-22?
@hatchjustin4 жыл бұрын
Maybe unfairly, but I havent heard enough good compared to bad about Taurus, whether due to quality or customer service. If the glock has an issue, you'll be taken care of. Its similar price to non-taurus competitors, and there will be aftermarket support.

Because as the Glock cultists will tell you, The 44 is perfect, as long as you ignore all its issues.

@@hatchjustin In my experiences with Taurus, they have 0 customer support. Glock has very quick, great customer service. I recently sent 5 very used mags to Glock and requested new springs be installed and any upgrades needed. I gave them my phone # so they could call and let me know what I owed for the work and parts. Within 5 days I received a package from them. Inside was 5 brand new mags and a paper stating "no charge". That is great customer servive! I called and thanked them. The guy said "No problem, we want you to be happy.". On the other hand- Taurs has twice gave me a very hard time twice. They wanted $15 for a $2 spring and took over 10 months to deliver 2 mags I ordered from them. And they hung up on me twice. Rude,horrible customer service. And that is if you can even get them to answer their phone. I sold my Taurus guns and will not buy another one! Taurus works hard making new gun sales. And have an almost nonexistient customer servive to their customers after they buy the gun

Every time this guy had an issue with the Glock, you didn’t see him load the magazine. If you watch the video he’s trying very hard to push the TX-22 over the Glock to an extent that’s embarrassing. I’ve had zero issues with my G44, and it would seem that everyone that isn’t a KZbinr has had the same experience.

I can just sense how many Jimmy‘s are going to be ruffled when this video goes public. The fact that it’s even plausible that you have to go through all these rituals and swing an Olive branch over your head 4 times etc. just to get the Glock 44 to work already shows the gun isn’t what it’s advertised to be. Who would’ve thought we’d live in a world where Taurus can make a better handgun than Glock? If you want a 22 with a slide for affordable muscle memory training, looks like if you stick with the taurus, Sig mosquito, Smith and Wesson m&p 22 or the Walther made 1911s you’ll be good to go. My favorite 22 I own is the Smith and Wesson 22 victory if I’m gonna own a 22 pistol I want one that was designed from the ground up to be a 22 not one that is mimicking something else. Just my opinions I thought I’d share. Of course all of us will have our own.

I too have the Glock 44. Granted, I only have 900 rounds through the gun, but it has ran without fail. I am not a torture tester, I shoot a couple hundred rounds, clean it, then it goes back to the safe - like most folks. However, I can not fault a gun that has run perfect on several ammo brands and bullet weights. Like they say, to each their own. Best regards.

So, you have to load the mag on plan hard surface without pulling the folower too much, charge it, only, by slingshoting it. Under the second sun aligned with Saturn while making the rain dance. Now, that's a reliable gun, isn't it ?

I own a G44 and so far after about 300 rounds fired I've had no malfunctions of any kind. With regards to having to load the magazines a particular way, I load all my mags on my .22 semi-auto's (that have load assist tabs) the same way. I hold the follower down just enough to clear the rim of the case and slide it in to place. This helps to ensure the proper alignment of the upper cartridges in the magazine so they don't "nosedive" during feeding. If for some reason the top rounds are not oriented correctly I simply pull down the loading tabs so all the rounds are somewhat lose and shake the mag slightly while holding the magazine with the nose of the rounds facing up. This usually gets everything back in to proper alignment and I've had no issues with my Glock or any other firearm with a similar mag setup. People need to remember that .22LR was never designed to run in a semi-auto platform as it's a rimmed cartridge. When stacking rimmed cartridges in a vertical manner the rims stacking up cause the nose of the upper cartridges in the magazine to want to tilt forward. Designers usually get around this by making the follower angle steeper to account for that "rim stacking". The case for the Glock not having as many rounds is two fold. First, due to the "rim stacking" .22LR semi-auto magazines are only single stack. Secondly as a result of the mags being single stack Glock engineered the model 44 to be the same in virtually every aspect to a Glock 19 so as to be a low cost trainer, this clearly limits the amount of rounds that you can stack vertically within the grips length. The Taurus with it's clearly longer grip can obviously hold more rounds. I've run so far in my Glock 44 about 10 different brands and types of .22LR. Thus far it has functioned well with all of it. Many modern .22LR semi-auto firearms are set up for the "high velocity" (1200+ FPS) ammo which seems to be the most commonly available today, with stuff like the CCI Velocitor & Stinger being on the "high performance" side. Therefore some guns (depending on both slide mass and how stiff the recoil spring is) may have issues with running "standard" pressure .22LR as there is not enough pressure being generated to run the slide to properly eject the spent case and pick up the next round. So far I have not witnessed this in my Glock 44, but on my Ruger SR-22 I notice that despite it being an aluminum slide the recoil spring is significantly lighter than the Glock and when shooting CCI Stingers or Velocitors I can really feel it when the slide smashes against the stop versus shooting just normal "high velocity" or "standard" pressured rounds.

The sweet sewing machine smoothness sound of the TX22 going rapidly through magazines of the most common bulk ammo available. Good to have another honest critical review of the G44 revisited again to dispell perceived bias and possible user induced issues.

If you need to do: X+Y+Z to make a gun function "flawlessly", it's not a well designed firearm. I can accept a gun not liking a particular kind of ammo (some rare weight or shape in the case of other calibers, etc.), but "Oh you must load your magazine this way for it to work..." is not an acceptable 'solution'. Same goes for "you can only manipulate the slide like this...", etc. etc. These are excuses and not solutions.

Glock press release: to have a reliable G44, make sure to have your local priest bless the ammo. Then pray for the Glock, then give a sacrificial offering to Mr Glock. Then G44 will then be problem free.
