@@msai257 Yes, Finnish and Latvian are remotely related, since historically Latvians have a considerable content of Finno-Ugrian in their blood as well in their language. Centuries ago besides all the Baltic tribes there were also Balto-Finnic people, who lived in the territory, which later has become Latvia, namely Livonians or Livs. Although Latvian language in structure is without doubt Baltic and thus Indo-European, there is a considerable range of words with Balto-Finnic roots in Latvian language, such as “puika” - “poika”, “airis” - “airis”, “sēne” - “sieni”. Not only “mežs”.

I see that the Latvian hair braiders have been busy. It takes some time to do that many braids and corn rows. I will admit that personally, I prefer the more traditional/pagan productions but that is just my personal taste. Others may differ.

@@ines0488 perhaps but what people forget is that modern Christianity had its roots in "paganism". Pagan by definition if I remember is someone who lives outside. What bends me out of shape by calling them "pagans" is they judge them before they fully understand. And yes I miss their traditional folk music but then again theres just so many times folk music can be redone until it gets old.

Visually this video is really good with a surprisingly African influence, although we love you because you represent the voices and beauty of Latvian culture. Musically I also find that the style is more dance, more identical to what we listen to on the occidental media. I also regret Lauma's departure, but it's her choice. Usually I like Tautumeitas, but certainly this one is not my cup of tea. I don’t know, how this might be considered as anything new or a development of their unique style. For all I know enormous amount of girls’ pop groups has already done something similar to this at least since the 1980s. It’s rather a stumble towards a boring mainstream, than exploring of new horizonts. I just hope they will not dwell on it any longer, before they lose all their originality. And I miss Lauma, too. More even, because this first release after she left the group is so characterless.

It could be their producers doing it. I know that jewel was like the wholesome girl next door until one of her videos broke that and she was in next to nothing in her video. They claimed that it was the producers saying you can sell more if you show more.

@@robertwilliams450 For this song and video Tautumeitas had a Swedish producers’ crew, which has made its name in Latvia already some time ago with probably the most popular Latvian pop group “Prāta vētra” (known also as “Brainstorm”, participated in Eurovision in 2000). This said, only Tautumeitas themselves know, why they made such a decision and invited this crew to collaborate.

I agree. I prefer the more ancient Baltic sound that they normally use. In most of their music you can tell it is Latvian not just by the lyrics but by the distinct sound it has. This was more modern with Latvian lyrics. The reason I love Tautumeitas is because they incorporate the unique intricacies of Latvia and the Latvian language into the music (Examples: Bērziņš, Nu ar Dievu, Manā lopu laidarā...) . It gives their music depth and life, and this just sounds like pop music which I am not really a fan of. I definitely hope they go back to the beautiful songs they used to make that truly compliment their gorgeous voices and reflect the beauty of Latvia.

This is a little lighter and poppier than what they usually feed us, sure. But, it's still uniquly their own, stylistically speaking. And slickly produced, musically and visually. I really like that their music and videos are normally chock full of healthy, fibrous voices, held together with high fiber form, pack a percussion protein punch! A healthy musical diet. But, sometimes, you just want a handful of Skittles and jello shots. As long as it's not their new diet trend, I'm OK with it. Now, pass the Cheetos, please.
