Beautiful Tavira we love living here, even in mid summer it's not as noisy as the west Algarve. There are some great restaurants, and bars that don't have loud piped music continually playing although Tavila Cafe on the corner of Bishops Square has the best live music on a Tuesday night. I would say come to Tavira if you want a quiet life where you can find a lively time if you know where to look.

We just finished spending 17 days in Tavira and it was a standout (out of many fine places) in the Algarve. Our favourite breakfast place was Flavours Cafe just south from the Roman bridge on the west side of the river. They had more expat and English style dishes (like omelettes and large coffees and a wide selections of teas) and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Also, the Indian place just a couple doors down called 'Typical Indian Tandoori Restaurant' had (in our opinion) the best in Indian cuisine.

Hi Nick. Thank you for putting this together. First time in Portugal - been bouncing around the globe for a good 20 years or so. Will be spending this winter in Algarve, and... after seeing Albufeira and Portimao last few days (definitely not for me...), I hope Tavira will be the saving grace (I'm seeking peace, quiet, and an absence of abrasive tourists, chugging their pints, while takin' in 'footy' on the 'telly'.). Great to see all the drone shots. I took mine with me on this trip - although, I thought getting permission here in PT to fly them is very difficult. In any case, I look forward to checking out Tavira over the next few days, and - possibly, spending this entire winter there. If I do, I hope you won't mind the KZbinr competition. ;) Cheers!

We love Tavira Nick and have been visiting regularly for the past 16 years. The Black Anchor is a delightful location. There’s a hotel nearby with a sky terrace - lovely views over Tavira. It’s a bit further back from where you started filming. Catching the ferry over to the island is a lovely day trip. During the summer there’s a stage with various entertainment / concerts in the center by the river and in the church grounds.

22:57 I’m glad you mentioned “planning” and the Tavira camera. My friend is still engaged in a battle with them. They are awful to deal with . For many years now, we've been very fortunate to be able to spend our long, cold Canadian winters in beautiful, sunny Portugal. But every time I watch one of your videos Nick, I see something I've never seen before and learn something new and interesting. As for those who feel there is an anti-tourist sentiment in Portugal? We have never felt anything but welcome. Of course, as it is anywhere in the world, fitting in is completely dependent on your deportment and attitude towards your surroundings.

Great video Nick! We were in Tavira last week for a couple of days. We enjoyed our time there its a lovely little town. Nick, I love your philosophical outlook on money (@18:40) and how it doesn't really serve to make you happy. Living in the capitalist culture of the U.S. it really bothers me how people always seem to want more. I think the more that you want is in direct proportion to our inclination to take for granted that which you already have. I once heard someone say that money doesn't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a big old yacht so you can sail right up next to happiness. I find the secret to happiness is having someone to love, something to believe in, something to do and something to look forward to. That quote, or something like it, is attributable to many different people but truly on point if you think about it. Anyway, another fine installment and I await the next release. Cheers!

Tavira is my favourite part of the Algarve, having had friends who retired there. I wonder if the little Frango restaurant with the rotisserie in the window still exists over by the square as its been quite a few years that I was last in the area? I suspect not as your film may show the edge of it as part of an Indian restaurant. Anyone who lives there know? Also a unique place is the bike 'car' driving training area which has working traffic signals for kids to learn how to drive near to Tavira. I have so many good memories of the area, didn't make it with my kids this year. Looks the same even after 10 years plus. I was surprised that you didn't cover the fish market and the converted village which was turned into hotel out in the salt flats with its own church and of course Tavira has quite a few churches itself 😊
@sharonvickers146 Жыл бұрын
The restaurant you speak of with the BBQ in the window is Cantinho do Emigrante. It was open when I was there in March 2023. One of my favourite places to sit outside at lunchtime and have great Frango piri piri or grilled fresh fish. I hope it's still open when I return in January/24.

The Portuguese have a complete right to reduce the pace of economic migration which results in speculative property investment pricing their children out of the property market. As someone who is in the country for your economic benefit maybe you can address this issue. Why should the Portugese be priced out of their homes and their land?
