Ah Sao Bras, how I miss you. We visited Sao Bras for many years, especially after my parents bought a new build apartment on Rua Virgínia de Passos, just opposite Luis dos Frango. Dad originally bought it as they wanted to retire to the Algarv having holidayed there for many years previous. Sadly Dad passed away 11 years ago and they didnt get chance to live their life, mum relocated back to the UK to be near family. I spent about 4 years after going back and forth from the UK while I was charged with selling the property (I think it was sold to a Brazilian couple) Both my wife and I love SB and have very fond memories and in turn we brought friends out and her parents to see what all the fuss was about. We visited last in 2019 and keep saying we need to come back and visit. SB really is a true gem without it being pimped up and made all touristy, it still retains that laid back vibe that we enjoy and miss so much.

You're absolutely right, a real Portuguese town (rare in the Algarve). Come back soon.

I stuck a pin in a map of southern Europe 6 years ago and 6 months later I landed in São Brás - alone and as green as a watermelon 😅 Not a moment of regret so far, it's a wonderful town.

As a single male, the questions about social interaction in a rather small town is the question. How do both solo females and males mix in a small town? All the best from Florida, USA/Randall

Nick, I am so glad that you did a piece on your hometown. I’ve always wondered which one it was, and I think that it speaks volumes, that you’ve chosen this place being so knowledgeable about the Algarve. As always, top-notch work.

It is a great town, and I have lived here five years. Nice culture, friendly people, and many places to explore. It has some hidden gems, one is the gym across the road from the public medical centre , gym is open from 07.00 hrs to 22.00 hrs from Monday to Friday.I use it every morning after my 7.5 km run, and if you are up at that time in the morning, I am the eccentric guy running with the rucksack with the flashing red light.

Amazing, I have been past there so many times and have never seen it. You can't miss gyms in other parts of the world, here they're hidden! 🤷

Nick: Always "thanks" for your well done presentations. I returned from Spain a couple of years ago and unfortunately I let my 10 year visa expire. Now in Florida. I know the Algarve well and would be my first selection should I ever return for several months or "forever". Of course, the issue for all of use non-EU is residency. I do really miss the historical aspects of most towns in all of Europe. Thanks again. Randall.Melbourne, Florida

Hey. Residency is possible, it's just a real big bureaucratic hassle. However, we do have people who can do it for you if you decide it's for you.

Nice to see more about where you live, Nick. Tell Cliff that he looks much more like a João or a Pedro (no offence intended, just looks Portugalese😁). The streets of the old town are unmistakably Portuguese, no other place like it.

Great job and it was nice to be introduced to your neighborhood! Also SB was not on my radar. I haven’t looked that much in the interior of the Algarve. But this is a place I want to visit! Silves has a bigger population does it not? Are they equivalent as towns? Also, does the weather get more extreme up there with hotter summers, and colder winters? I’m gonna go on another scouting trip to the Algarve (I live in Lisbon currently) and if I do get your town, I’ll send you a message. More to follow.
@AlgarveAddicts2 ай бұрын
Silves town (10,600) has actually slightly fewer inhabitants than São Brás de Alportel (11,200) and yes its slightly warmer than Silves. I'm not sure if it's colder in winter though. If you'd like a personlized tour of the area, we do those. 👍🏼
@hawaiianguy9828 Жыл бұрын
Well done again Nick. Editing was slick and information was complete yet concise and incredibly useful for me personally, as I plan my move there. São Brás de Alportel wasn't even on my radar, but it sure as hell is now. Thank you.

About 25 minutes, and yes I can see a sliver of the ocean from my house on a hill. A real estate agent may call it an ocean view, I wouldn't, though.😊

You're welcome to your opinion 😂👍🏼
@seinfeldcostanza9433 Жыл бұрын
You really can't compare Tavira to Sao Bras. You can compare Tavira to the other coastal towns. I was surprise thought that the river in Tavira is murky and the one on VRSA looks clearer and clean.
@AlgarveAddicts Жыл бұрын
It's not that surprising , the Gilão River in Tavira is very small and the Guadiana in VRSA is one of Iberia's largest. The rate of flow massively different...
@gillh405 Жыл бұрын
I have a good friend in Tavira, she is trying to sell up and leave. It's lost it's soul and is turning into an upmarket Albufeira. I spend enough time there to know it's changed in even the last year. Not a place I'd want to live.
