Thank you for explaining this procedure so well. You are an excellent teacher and make the information so easy to understand. My husband just had this procedure done and is doing well!

Timely video. I see the surgical team for recommendations about my severe Aortic stenosis. I'm 76 and dread open heart surgery, so hoping they suggest TAVR. Thanks

Thanks for this. My twin sister has severe aortic stenosis and will see a cardiologist on August 3, and will be considering this. My 2 brothers have had heart attacks and have had open heart surgery and our father died of heart disease and heart attack. One brother has had 5 stents. He told us to consider TAVR first. I’m going in with her to be moral support. I hope she doesn’t need open heart surgery.

What they never tell you is that the risk of small strokes (from the calcium debris) is much higher in TAVR than open-heart surgery.

I have seen a video from Cleveland Clinic where they talk about the calcium debris. What they do there is they insert 3 or 4 filters in certain main arteries to catch the debris. They said that over 90% of the filters once removed have debris in them.

Great explanation! On average, how long does aortic stenosis progress from mild to severe?
@SouthDenverCardiology
@SouthDenverCardiology 2 жыл бұрын
So many factors play into the progression that it is difficult to project a timeline.

I gave you a thumbs down. That is a non answer. I am 82, also with a mild aortic stenosis diagnosis. If I have to wait several years until it becomes severe, I may be too old for the procedure.

@@franktrice1497 I went from mild to severe in 14 months, now I am hoping I can get it done quick enough, don't leave it to late get it done now.

Does South Denver Cardiology employ the Boston Scientific “Sentinel” calcium plaque filter system during your TAVR procedures?

I was diagnosed with mild aortic valve stenosis in 2014. Annual echocardiograms have seen it go from mild to moderate and just recently (Oct) to severe. I have no symptoms other than a very mild shortness of breath. I'm 79 and otherwise in excellent health. I'm very impressed with Dr MacDonald, but I live in Maine. We have a cardiology clinic here in the Portland area but I'm just not convinced they are the best choice for TAVR although from a logistical standpoint it makes sense to use them. Would I need to make several trips to Denver to get an accurate assessment prior to having the procedure done out there? Thank you.

John, I hope you are doing well. When my husband was diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis, we met with an excellent heart team at Brigham Womens Hospital in Boston. After several tests, the BW team advised he could wait for TAVR. Excellent doctors and you are close to Boston! We were moving to Florida so he had his TAVR a few months later at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. He is doing well. Best wishes!

What is the treatment for Pulmonary valve stenosis is it the same with aortic valve stenosis?
@SouthDenverCardiology
@SouthDenverCardiology 2 жыл бұрын
From Dr. Erin Unger, MD, Pulmonary stenosis is much less common than aortic stenosis. If necessary, it can frequently be treated with a balloon-based procedure alone rather than replacing the valve. Please don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment to discuss this further. 303-744-1065

@@SouthDenverCardiology thanks for your reply. So it seems it’s best to wait as long as possible if one is at retirement age otherwise you’ll have one or two higher risk surgeries at 80+, assuming it’s even possible at that age.
