Hi Ahsan, The video was really helpful. Keep up the good work bro. Given that most of us are not fluent in German and bureaucracy usually is a big hurdle. It would be great if you can show a step by step guide of a web app to file these taxes, how to apply for all these exemptions you mentioned and where and how to get the supporting documents and data record from would be great.

Hi Ahsan, thank u for the vid! I still have some questions remaining: 1. If I studied at private school, can I claim the contract cost over the last years (not just semester ticket/transportation cost)? 2. Do I have to fill tax return for previous years, as I probably would need Verlustvortrag from the previous 3 years of studying to submit in 2024 and next years? 3. For how many years can I submit these expenses in the future? I know, that max. is 6k annually, is there any restrictions in years?
@ahsanfinance
@ahsanfinance Ай бұрын
1. For first degree (bachelors/diploma) there is a maximum claimable amount of 6000€ and there is no loss carry forward. For masters yes you can claim the uni fee and other expenses and there is no limit to the claims. 2. Yes 3. For voluntary filings one can submit a tax return for upto 4 years in the past and carry forward losses for up to 7 years.

Hi Ahsan, your content was really helpful. But still I have some doubts regarding the topic that, I am student had a part time and mini job ( for the min job I always ensured that I worked for below 400 Euros) simultaneously for 6 months in tax class 1. But in the last month somehow my tax class for the part time job was changed in to 6 and so taxes were charged accordingly. I think, May be my mini job has been considered as main employer (hence Tax class1) and part time as Secondary employer(Tax class 6). But I had only earned 90 Euros from the mini job in the last month, whereas I earned around 900 Euros from my part time job, from which more taxes were cut down. So my question is that whether will I be able to claim back those taxes charged from me in the last month.

If your yearly earnings were less than the "grundfreibetrag" then you would be able to claim all the income tax in a tax return. However social contributions are not refunded

Hi Ahsan, Very informative video. Thank you. I think there is something regarding the expense roll over that you did not clarify in the video that is very important and please correct me if it is wrong. If you earn below the tax free threshold of 9.744 EUR while you are studying but your expenses do not exceed the amount you earned then you will not get a Verlustvortrag. For example if you earned 5.000 EUR while studying in 2021 but only accrued 2.500 EUR of expenses then your carry forward losses to the following years will be zero. In this case there is no point in filing a tax return to carry forward losses.

Generally the verlust should be given by the tax authorities in your case but sometimes things do not work properly. That is why i recommend doing it one by one. You just have to wait for the response from the finanzamt as , once submitted you cannot do anything without looking at the response from them.

Hi Ahsan, as a student if we file a tax return once, do we need to claim every year. Is it mandatory to do every year? Once we start. For example: a student applied for tax return for the year 2021 in the year 2022. He received 850 euros. Is it mandatory to claim tax returns for the year 2022 in the year 2023. In this way is it mandatory to apply tax returns every year, if not will we get penalties from tax officer? Around 25000 euros penalty like that based on non submission or late submission ? Please clarify this doubt

You do not have to provide proof when applying for a tax return. Only when the tax office asks for proof will you have to provide it. For this purpose you will need to provide invoices for those expenses. For larger expenses like a laptop or a mobile phone its easier to recover the invoice. When it comes to items like pens papers etc I do not think the finanzamt will ask for any proof.

In 2023 as you had 2 jobs at the same time, you might be obliged to submit a tax return. For the Tution fee, you have to declare the expenses which occured in that year in the tax return. So the fee for 2022 cannot be declared in a 2023 tax declaration, it can only be declared in the 2022 tax declaration. Well you can put the claims in your tax return but if the finanzamt asks for proof for these you will have to provide the proof. In case you cannot provide the proof the finanzamt will not consider those expenses.

From what you told me: Tax submission as single in 2019 and 2020 as Single with tax class 1. In 2021 as married with tax class 1 and for 2022 married (most likely tax class combination 3/5) but you should submit a joint tax return with your husband for 2022. Remember to submit 1 year asap wait for the response from the finanzamt and then submit for the next year.

If the income tax that you have paid is less than the tax burden then the finanzamt will generate a Tax Loss Certificate. You can put this certificate in the following years' tax return and get your tax adjusted accordingly.

Hi, Currently I am in my second year of masters, so I claim this tax return for say 3 yrs after the first fiscal year after a full time job to get reduction in total tax using carry forward of losses? Or can I claim after my master's course even while job seeking. Secondly, if I continue for PHd with a partial work contract of 3.5k per month, how would I incure taxes since this isn't full time and can I carry forward losses in my case, or only possible after PhD in an another full time job? Lastly, better to register for elster certificate now i.e second year of masters or at time of Claim? Also, I am currently applying for a student reimbursement for electricity costs fm govt, so would this amount effect as addition or reduction in the carry forward losses while claiming? Thanks for your valuable answers and video!
@ahsanfinance
@ahsanfinance Жыл бұрын
Firstly, you have to file a tax return for each year individually. i.e. Submit a tax return, wait about 6 weeks to get a response and see what the finanzamt says. If you agree with their response ( a direct tax refund if paid enough taxes or a loss carry forward statement), then proceed to the next years submission. So to submit a tax return for the past 3 years would take about 3 to 6 months to do it most effectively. I would suggest you learn about the tax filing process and file your first return as soon as you can. I couldnt quite understand your second question. For the elster certificate yes you should get it soon but even if you do not have it you can submit a tax return using online webapps without any problems. Finally at the moment there is no ruling for the electricity costs that students are getting this year. More info will be given later on but this should not have any effect on your loss carry forward
