Hi Prof. Lester. With a small business corporation what happens to the net after tax profit ? Does it have to become part of retained earnings ? If the owner uses it then will the owner have to pay income tax in his own name on the net after tax profit of the SBC ?

I have a question. If my turnover is R1.7m but I owe R1.2 m do the bank, would I have to pay taxes on the amount owed to the bank as well?

Prof. Lester I enjoy your videos. I stand under correction with my following questions, but you will know better as you know the laws better. You mention with SME's the gross income/ (turnover) may not exceed R14m pa. Should that not be R20m pa? You also mention that a company loses it's SME status when a Shareholder has Shares in OTHER Companies during a year of assessment. What about "de minimis levels of shareholding"? A few years ago I read the following somewhere and made a note of it, but unfortunately I did not record WHERE I read it: "Companies will NOT be prevented from receiving Small Business Corporation tax relief merely because they have shareholders with de minimis levels of ownership in other companies". When was this applicable? And why is it not applicable anymore?
