...I'm late to answer you, but... the "American" cover (the soft-focus, 'natural' look) was the "1989" version, when she crossed over to the "Adult Contemporary" market, with "I'll Always Love You"... (cont.) ....The "1988" version (the black laced outfitted, red / pink cover) was when she was marketed as a "Dance Diva"...they changed it, to fit the 'market', better.....
