Light sprains and tweaks can almost always be walked off and treated with ice with usually only short-term pain. You can see he didn't roll his ankle in the previous match which usually is a match-ending injury. Good on him to soldier on and even more amazing that he went on to beat one of the greatest athletes of all time.

It is incredibly painful and he might need a cast on it depending on the grade. If he doesn't the damaged ligaments can be permanent. I had this and it's be 20 years and I'm still not walking right. Who is injured more? Nadal with what seems to be a pulled rib muscle or Fritz with his ankle tears. I've had both and I can say, that from a tennis point of view, the ankle is incredibly painful. Much worse than a rib pull. Nadal new's conference where he promised not to talk about his injury, he talked about it nearly the whole conference. I mean have some class dude. Fritz was in terrible pain and all you can think is you could have played better and you are in depression cos of the injury? Self-centered Nadal. Always talking about himself when he loses. Talk about how Fritz played and it's time to celebrate his win. Not focus on how you lost. That would be class. Fritz in his press conference only discussed his injury once when asked but never beat his chest and said I beat Nadal on a badly injured ankle. There's only one drama queen here and that's Nadal.
