Very very impressed with how they can make such an excellent instrument using robots. The music was great too. Can I have a single cutaway taylor for free. I could never afford one but just asking.

Just needed to say this... It cost a LOT of money to setup robotics as well as pay the engineers to program them. That is expensive. Go watch a Tesla plant or any high end automative plant. If you want a truly 'made by hand' guitar of high quality they are more expensive than a Toyota Corolla. I'm not joking. So if Taylor got RID OF the machines they could sell a 'cheaper' guitar. People are much cheaper than robotics. The MAIN reason any manufacture puts in robotics of this type is for QUALITY. Olson guitars and McPherson Guitars come to mind. Both great shops that build a true Ferrari by hand. Mr Olson is rubbing sticks together to start a fire compared to the setup the Taylor plant has. Taylor is the Apple computer of guitars. Designed in California to make a high quality guitar that is mass produced. You can get a neck adjustment on a Taylor guitar quicker than you can get the oil changed on your car. Olson guitars are glued at the neck and it would take days/weeks to adjust the neck correctly on that guitar. That being said there are great guitars out there. When I bought my guitar I had my heart set on a Martin. I couldn't get a Martin, made in USA with real wood back and sides for anything close to what I got the Taylor for. The neck on the Taylor guitar, the quality and how they will stand behind it for the life of the product makes Taylor a great investment. Taylor puts more wood in their guitar cases then some manufacturers put in their guitars. Just saying. ;-)

You talk like an engineer. I know 'cause I am engineer. You are 100% correct ! People think a Ferrari is top quality. In reality, it's the contrary. Because it's made by hand. Of course, there is a certain "je ne sais quoi" in a Ferrari. I must admit... And man, each time I take a look at some Taylor video, I react the same exact way as you. Top manufacturing process. That's it ! And each time, I think about Gibson (electric LP), one of the worst ! Not because of people on the floor but because of management. The worst in the guitar industries ! I would make some kind of changes there on day #2.... Fender is getting it ! I'm impressed. Martin, I will always respect that legendary manufacture. They do well even though they're not as modern as Taylor. Gibson acoustic is not bad either and has a certain sound. That's all I had to say. You made my day FishFan ! Cheers from Canada

I'm impressed. Makes me want to spring for an American one rather than a Mexican. Interesting that fret placing is not robotic (in any factory, it seems). That would seem to be a process that would be easy to automate.

If you want to see an interesting contrast, look up the Yamaha Guitar Factory tour. You'll see a lot more hands on crafting. I'm not saying hands on building necessarily better, it's just that if a hand built guitar is important to you, you will actually get something closer to that from Yamaha. Now I own three Taylors, a 514, 414 and 316, and they are with out a doubt the finest sounding and put together guitars I own, but they cost me over 6000.00 total to obtain. Three LL16s will set you back 2298.00 from Sweetwater and that's only if you pay their posted price. Calling them almost always gets you a lower price. The LL16s at 799.00 with much more hand crafting are all solid wood Engleman Spruce, Rosewood guitars and sound damned good. An equivalent Taylor will run you over 2500.00.

I've owned and played a lot of models from Yamaha, most notably the AC5R, and none of them have been quite as good as either of my Taylor's (414ce and 614ce). The thing about being automated is that mistakes are far less common, and the consistency is much, much better - meaning that you're much likely to get an amazing sounding guitar from Taylor, than you would be getting a completely handmade guitar. But, to be fair, those guitars are quite a bit more than the majority of Yamaha's, to the point of being overpriced - If you're just in it for a price to quality ratio, I'd recommend a Yamaha/Takamine/Washburn, but in my experience none of these guitars quite reach the sound or build quality as a Taylor. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that small gap in quality is worth it for most people, but I honestly don't think their sound is topped by much other than a Godin or boutique guitar of similar quality.

@@garrett3108 I traded my 414ce after 2 weeks because it sounded terrible. I also have a 100e for campfires, that I barely ever take out, it sounds so bad. Yamaha L (starting from LL26 and up) series blows away anything Taylor makes. I just tried out a few more Taylors at GC, they were all awful. But I guess that is all just one's personal opinion...

@@aportilla007 I have big doubts that you had a 414ce and thought it sounded "terrible", I've never talked to anyone who's owned a 300 series and up Taylor who thought it sounded anything other than great. I can understand not liking the tone of a Taylor, it's very modern, but to call it terrible is simply ignorant. Yamaha makes some great guitars, and their low end series blow the 100 series out of the water, but on the other hand Taylor's higher end models blow theirs away. Then again, the price of a high end Taylor makes it a value versus quality argument.

I thought that also - but this is CA and I'm sure the wages and costs are very high. Also, the robotics needed to do things like spray a finish are very expensive. This is actually much less automated than their Mexican plant.

Wow amazing! Taylor is the apple of guitars. I like that robots make them 😊 I love the robots. humans make errors and I’ve never liked hand built anything. no hand built guitar will outlast a Taylor. consistent quality and great innovation. I’m definitely getting a Taylor 414ce Ovangkol v class. they’re also really beautiful looking and they sound great. Thanks robots.

Humans are flawed, we make mistakes, we get tired, we put love into an instrument, but as great as that is (and as much as I respect luthiers), you simply can't beat a machine as far as consistency and fine details go. The automation at Taylor does the same exact things a luthier does; the only difference is that the production rate is higher, the imperfections fewer, and the consistency is greater.

@@garrett3108 Yes, machines can perform routine tasks more consistently than humans. What they can’t do (at least for now. Maybe AI can in the future) is judge the quality of sound like humans. After all, guitars are built to please the human ear (and eye).

I bought a Taylor then turned around and bought an Eastman after purchasing the Eastman I felt like I had ripped off big time by Taylor. The Eastman is built in Beijing China the e40d I have will blow away most guitars it is the equivalent of a martin d41 at a third of the price. If you get a chance to try one out you will be dismayed they use premium woods and the craftsmanship is beautiful and I can’t say enough about the sound.

Robots, robots, robots, and Chinese workers. So what they demand such a big money for? Made in USA?) Ha-ha Yamaha, Crafter and many other good mass-market brands make similar things but much cheaper. Yes, Taylor guitars sound good, but not for its money. 6,8,9 series are real high-end guitars so their prices are quite reasonable. But why people buy lower series? They can’t count their money? They have no ears? Or they simply want the best logo on their guitar heads?
