I’m still a little confused about what”active”means? Does the battery drain if left in the wrong position?

The first 514-ce I bought had the fishman system in it and I really liked it. The next one I bought ad the expression system and it sounded metallic. I made a new endcap for it and put a different system in it. People started asking me where I got those wood end caps so I started making and selling them. I jokingly called it the Expression survival system. I sold around 30 of them and decided to not continue making them.

I’m not a fan of the Expression System. I love my 816CE but the ES was a weak point. I recently put an LR Baggs Anthem and it improved the plugged in sound tremendously! I left the 9v battery compartment in it instead of using the Velcro bag that comes with the Anthem. I am now so happy with the plugged in tone, it’s like a new guitar!

I’ve a 2018 314ceV. I can’t make the ES2 sound worth a flip through anything. I’ve a Martin that cost half as much new with a Fishman PU that I can’t make sound bad. I love the playability of the Taylor and the non PU amplified sound but hate the ES2. It’s horrid. I mean terrible in the extreme. Recording into ProTools, takes forever to get a decent EQ. Low and low mids are virtually absent, high mids and up are tin. I’ve a new Fishman Loudbox Mini it sounds horrid through while my $800.00 Martin sounds very good. I don’t get it. Is the ES2 really this bad and why would Taylor use it? Did I just get a bad one?!

Agreed. Just bought an 814ce. The ES2 sounds like rattling pennies in a can while standing next to a hornet nest. Cab barely get my acoustimax preamp to clean it up.

I am not much of a fan of the e2 sistem. It just doesn't sound that the guitar has much of a voice, the sound is to clear. Just my opinion of course. I didnt say it sounds bad, I prefer other pickups that are out there.

Go to a music store. Grab two Taylors with the ES2 system off the wall. Put your ear to the bridge. Strum a chord and mute it. Odds are you'll hear a nasty high pitched ring. I've ordered 8 Taylors (3 AD12e, 2 314ce, 1 324ce, 1 224ce-K DLX, 1 312ce 12-fret). One AD12e and the 224ce-K DLX are the only ones that don't have this problem. Unfortunately the one AD12e also came from the factory with a cracked back and all notes on the 10th fret are choked and have zero sustain. The only truly quality Taylor I've played with this ES2 system is the Mexican made 224ce-K DLX. So much for USA quality.

I have the Taylor K26ce I play unplugged most of the tine I hate Hate E2. System its sound like a cheap microphone and when you use chorus effects its mono sound and muffled. I still prefer the original expression system on old 314Ce taylor it has a stereo sound when I used chorus effects and reverb

I agree, i do not like the sound of my 814ce, through the E2, sounds way different than being unplugged! They`re terrible set up.

@@olcountryboy5485 Glad I read this. I have a 2002 814ce with only the under saddle piezo. Was thinking of sending it back to Taylor to “upgrade” to ES2. Now, probably not. Going to look at other options

Es2 simply sucks, too bad how this electronics waste such a good guitar
