I'm 55 and this song captured the the best and the worst time of my life. Dancing in the kitchen with my baby daughter in our arms and then having my heart shattered with our breakup. This song and Taylor's heartfelt lyrics have transported me into a healing I have needed and this tour has helped me find joy in a very sad time in my life. I lost my mom last year. She was the only person that helped me in my darkest times. Taylor has brought me again to a happy place. Her words are healing and they just hit. THANK YOU Taylor for bringing me back to life with your gift of songwriting. I hope to see you live one day in the real and not just tiktok live streams. ❤❤❤❤

The first time I heard this was when she sang it on SNL and it gutted me. Just gutted. Even though I've been happily married for over 20 years. But the emotion and description was so strong that I was suddenly standing in the kitchen again while my ex-fianceé called off our engagement. Now, I'm glad he did, but, then, it was devastating. The memory has never been stronger than hearing this for the first time.

Seeing her perform this on SNL was my introduction to non-pop Taylor. Previously, I wasn’t a fan, wasn’t a hater…she was just another pop star to me. I watched it live and literally couldn’t believe what I was watching. I’ve never been as blown away by a live performance. A few years and her whole catalog later I’m transfixed by everything she does.

This is the second time I've posted a similar comment about Taylor Swift: No one can ever deny this woman's talent. I've not listened to any of her songs for like 10 years but just listening to this took me back to those few moments in my life and made me remember how painful it was in a way that I could never express with the level of clarity she has in her song. Imagine someone who's never met you can tell you how you felt in your younger self. That is talent to use music to connect us through our common humanity, which is the talent of a musician and an incredible artist. I am not your fan but you are an incredible artist, objectively and unequivocally.

This is so vulnerable and transparent, the original recording sounds like anger and frustration rooting from confusion and betrayal. The TV sounds like recalling a bitter memory but being able to move along. This sounds like the night after it happened, so miserable and sorrowful, almost empty, almost in denial of the loss of your lover. Taylor is amazing.

Masterful. The lyrics. The recording. Innovative as well. This is my absolute fav version of this song. There can't be a version better than this. I too, could listen to it every day. It's art, poetry, beyond a pop song. The lyrics are a lesson in how to write well. its also non linear at times, displaying another innovation. Just brilliant. Inspired. Contemporary. Relatable. Emotional. Clever. Smart

This song is perfect for when all the rage has passed, and the only thing left is sadly remembering the past. She's not belting as much here, it's all sung softly. Lightly. As if on the verge of tears. And she infuses every word with emotion, a wistful smile at "getting lost upstate", a longing at "anytime now he's gonna say it's love" etc. I think it's amazing that she switched the notes every here and there, to make it more sad than angry. I absolutely love this version ❤️

I am old at 63, but this song took me back to 18. Standing in the rain on a corner next to the stop sign, where he dropped me off. After using and taking ALL of my confidence. He just callously shoved me out the door. Standing there soggy and defeated ITossed the ring he made me in his art class in a ditch. Years later he says how he remembers that day and regrets it. We both "remember it all too well". Taylor is not just a songwriter and singer, she is a mage. Her music transports us back to similar situations vividly with the swirl of her wand. She deserves all that she gets and then some.

The line "Casually Cruel" paints the person she's singing about in a more clear light and I can understand the hurt she felt or is feeling. Been there, long time ago. I picture this version as the epilogue of a movie. a girl steps on the stage, adjusts the microphone and sings. the bar is empty and she has no audience to tell this story to. she’s singing this with all the vulnerability in her, eyes closed and swaying all by herself. it’s her way of leaving everything behind and truly saying saying goodbye.
