This song was satirical. She took all the headlines about her being some crazy girlfriend as inspiration. In an interview, she said that one day the idea came to her about imagining herself as the character the media made her out to be and writing a song from that perspective, like "what if I really WAS this person?" She thought it would make a really interesting song. And it sure as hell did! But it was all a joke on the media...very clever if you ask me!

The biggest favor you can do for yourself when reacting to Taylor's music is to forget every time your brain says "well I've heard" or "they say that...", whatever it is, because all of the media narratives & hater stories that have gone around about Taylor are usually false. Yes, she writes about her life experiences and relationships, (among tons of other things) just like every other artist out there! However, she seems to be the one that is mostly called out, like it's a negative thing & that she's a bad person. Yes, she writes about relationships & love a lot, but so does Drake, Ed Sheeran & the Weeknd, but they're men so no one says anything. She's dated 3 people in 7 years & dated normally in her 20s but was slut shamed for it by the media. This song is written from the perspective of this character that the media had made her out to be for a number of years in her twenties. Taylor is a phenomenal singer and songwriter, a brilliant Lyricist, an incredible businesswoman, and someone who's just very kind and generous! In fact she gave out about a quarter of a million dollars to charities in every city in the US that her Eras tour performed in and then she gave out 55 million dollars worth of bonuses to her cast and crew at the end of the US leg of her tour this summer. I think if you let go of the negative narrative that a lot of people have in their head about her, you'll enjoy reacting to her a lot more. The easiest way to do that IMO is to just watch the Miss Americana documentary & it'll answer tons of questions & let you go into reacting to her without preconceived notions! Good luck!

Taylor has been on the scene since she was a young girl. She’s had a lot of heartbreak and writes about it. When you as a fan have followed her life for the past 17 years, you understand that this song is written playing the part. The media made her out to be…….she’s spoofing on all the nasty things said about her over the years by haters. It’s a genius song! Lots of history to know if you want to understand her music.

She wrote this song as a parody for how she was being treated by the media. In every interview she ever did at the time, and still very commonly to this day, everyone wants to ask her about how many men she has dated and says she only writes break up songs, but she's shared how it's very sexist because men can write a breakup song and no one blinks an eye, but a woman writes a break up song and she's calculated, or emotional, or dating too many people. She decided to play into that narrative and it truly showcases how ridiculous it is. It's sad that she is so extremely talented but what people obsess over is how many men she's dated. Definitely watch The Man as a follow up to this.

You need to check out All to Well which is a song she wrote about her short lived relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal when she was 20yrs old. It's a heartbreaker but a true masterpiece in the way its written. Taylor is a lyricist like no other.

You should listed to intro and Ready For It! Look what you made me do. And I did something bad. She socks it to the West’s. These songs are on the reputation tour bur for Look What You Made Me Do? It starts by Taylor digging herself out of a grave (she’s a zombie. Don't Play Me is a bluesy song that takes you to church at the end.

This is a screw the media tune! Take it for the satire it is! The guy is texting, she catches him and gets pissed. The “oops, did I just drop your phone in the water” is hysterical and he gets what he deserves! The “Blank Space” is the next ex media portrays her life! She was attached to Joe Alwyn 6 flippin’ years. Got this one all wrong dude!
