Additionally, the lyrics repeatedly ask, "Is it too soon to do this yet?" Many connect this to being sexually intimate for the first time. It's "delicate." "Is it cool that I said all that?" could be a confession of love, or deep feelings about their relationship (as it relates to the above). As for the video, consider she hid from the public for nearly two-years. This song was written during that time. Her inability to be seen kind of goes along with her own personal journey. she made those faces in the mirror to like see if she was still human because so many people don't treat her like one that sometimes she doesn't feel real and making those faces was to symbolize her checking if she was still "real" and a human. same with the string lip thing before it. it kinda shows how she feels like a puppet. and then she's like practicing how to smile because she's so used to fake smiling that she wants to see if she can still smile for real (which she does at the end when she meets up with joe at the bar and those specific people can see her again)

This song is about her reputation being tarnished by an edited video and her being scared that her reputation would scare people from wanting to get to know/date her. Beginning of the video she’s giving her fake smile because she has to be “Taylor Swift” and not just Taylor. After the whole world was against her she hid from the public (invisible part), was able to be free from public view/perception and was just able to be herself. In doing that she met someone who she liked, dated, but was scared that he might be scarred off and she knew their relationship was delicate at the time. At the end (of the video) she was visible and people could see her but this time she didn’t care because she found someone who like her for her and he doesn’t care what the public has to say (which is why she went into the bar all wet but didn’t care who saw and only had eyes for the person who likes her as she is). Fun fact, in her second album she had a song named Fearless and had these lyrics say “with you I’d dance in a storm, in my best dress, Fearless” and this is why she was dancing in the rain near the end of the video.

It's actually a real symbolic video. In 2016 when she was at the peak of her career and Kim/Janye lied and destroyed her reputation she actually net get current boyfriend. She explains live on your that she wrote this because like most humans one thing that she craves is something real. Someone real who gets you and sees you for you. And she happens to find that one thing one person while her reputation was at it's worse and it scaredger that he wouldn't want to meet her because he might believe all the rumors about her. Our understanding is this video represented the night of their first meeting or date. In the begin in of the video she was zoned out until an interviewer got her attention. She was then given the above by her suitor and was seen clearly irritated by the fact that her security mimicked her movements. All the fans thought it was sweet that during the entire video she only smiles genuinely twice, the first time is when she's seen with ”us” the fans and the second when she realizes her date sees her at the end. Once in the powder room she practices her smile but realizing she's like and can let the facade drop allows some silliness to show( if you ateny a Taylor fan a little fun fact most people don't know is Taylor is actually a huge dork. And she's super awkward and funny, most people think she's plain and boring) She was overwhelmed by the media and the public constantly having their eyes on her so she disappeared( she actually did do this and after the drama of 2016 she wasn't seen or heard from for almost two years) but she realizes after awhile that she's lonely. Adi think your comment that she had to find a balance between two extremes was actually accurate. She says in her documentary that dropped this year that her boyfriend while an actor has a healthy balance of work/personal life valance and she had to find that too. She didn't want to be completely invisible, but she no longer wanted to allow the whole world into her private business. Just found your channel and I love watching people who aren’t swifties discover her music and enjoy it without bias. After hearing you enjoy guitar and I think love lyrics I’d recommend going back in her discography and listening to more of her raw work. Her earlier career with the guitars and more raw lyrics. Most of her really great songs from her early career don’t have music videos but I’d still suggest them. This song is about her boyfriend, at the beginning of a new relationship she was insecure about it because it was the worst time of her life, so not really a great time to be meeting someone and beginning to start a relationship. Taylor cannot go anywhere without being seen or it making headlines, Bodyguards, cameras, etc. The beginning of their relationship she actually had to disguise herself so people would not recognize her so she could leave her house. Dating her is not actually “normal” And her boyfriend is more of a normal guy. In the video for once in her life she cannot be seen and she can do everything she can’t do in her regular crazy life. When she plays this acoustic live, if he is there, she sings it to him. The famous line “dive bar on the east side, where you at”, is where they met up and she references this bar or dive bar in other songs, mapping out their relationship through songs. When they meet and first start dating (Reputation album) to being completely in love (Lover album). At the end of the video she ends up at the dive bar where he is in the back waiting for her. And he recognizes her.

I think that the video portrays that as a celebrity she's always in the center of attention and she doesn't feel like having any kind of freedom, so she feels trapped in that fake and superficial world. Now as in the beginning of the video we see someone giving her a paper that has a almost magical like appearance. It seems like there might be a guy (as the song is putting forward) that she likes and he is giving her the slip to actually be free and feel free. So she just doesn't want it to be just a fling because she truly feels like herself when she's aroud him. That's my point of view and my interpretation of that i don't know if it's actually what Taylor wanted to give out as the meaning of this all. I really love this song!
