“You laughed at my dreams, rolled your eyes at my jokes.” - I Bet You Think About Me “I was never good at telling jokes, but the punchline goes: I get older but your lovers stay my age.” - All Too Well (10 Minute Version) She’s basically saying: “Oh, you don’t think I’m funny? How’s this for a joke?”

She grew up on a farm in rural PA. Upper middle class but not Beverly Hills or NYC rich elite; she knows and understands middle America middle class struggles and experiences even if she was maybe in the top 20% of income earners

Jake's awfully rich so there was a difference! Also, he did make fun of her music that it didn't compare to other cool records - Indie ones(reference - we are never ever getting back together - indie record that's much cooler than mine). Now she has two indie records ruling the world. I genuinely enjoy your reactions.

Amazing reaction as always! Yet another one of her major burns against a man that was foolish enough to cross her. I can't believe this has been in the vault for over 10 years, but I guess her label would only allow so many Jake dis-tracks on the album, lol. If you enjoyed the song, you definitely have to react to the music video next. It was directed by her BFF Blake Lively, it really brings home the burn visually to perfectly complement the lyrics. The farm reference is to the Christmas tree farm that she grew up on as a little girl. Her parents were both in finance, so she absolutely had an upper-middle-class upbringing and lived in very nice homes, but nothing compared to the kind of money Jake grew up with. I don't know if you noticed the line, "Do you have all the space that you need?" is a call back to "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" where she sings, "We hadn't seen each other in a month when you said you needed space, what?" I also think "I don't have to be your shrink to know that you'll never be happy" is a dig at his Beverly Hills circles where everyone has a shrink. By the way, he is now 42 years old, has never married, doesn't have any kids, although he has been with the same French model for several years, who happens to be 26. Just sayin'.

Oh Thank you! I've been waiting for this one!! I wish youd react to the music video as well, its so good. And yeah, she grew up middle class, but she lived on a farm, she wasnt hanging aroung the same circles jake did all his life. Also, he was a grown man, she was practically a teenager when they dated, so not shocking she wouldn't have much in common with his friends hahaha

She wasn't rich like the Kardashians or even like Jake Gyllenhaal but whatever her parents had they taught her to use that money well on learning skills and growing . She is well mannered which for sure the super rich kids doens't have very often . So i guess her parent's hard earned money doesn't got wasted. They taught her skills and helped her in following her dreams. Which shows how good her parents her as they support her in a career field which normal parents wouldn't often. And also she wrote songs when she was 12 years old. And that's pretty much hardwork , she can't buy songwriting skills from money. She is hardworking and always growing which is why I'm always so inspired by her. And also she never give up , after all the criticism she always focuses on her work and proves her success every single time.

I think when she recorded this, she decided to really amp up the "country accent" --- bc Gyllenhaal skipped her 21st birthday party to go to a Mumford & Sons concert (You've reacted to The Moment I Knew already, right?) . Taylor mentions how his love of music didn't include hers in WANEGBT, too (indie record that's _much_ cooler than mine). You should go watch the music video she did for this -- she got Blake Lively to direct it, her brother to co-produce it (Austin Swift is a film director ) and Aaron Dessner to appear as a guitarist in her "band". As a dream sequence, there is a bit of the same pointed satire from Picture to Burn, and especially the Speak Now music videos. fwiw, their relationship started just AFTER her 3d album went platinum in a week in Oct 2010.

Knowing that Jake skipped her 21st birthday party to attend a Mumford and Sons concert in 2010, and that Marcus Mumford later sang backing vocals for Cowboy Like Me on Taylor's own 2nd indie record in 2020, I feel is her biggest burn yet.

Think of this song as the opposite side of All Too Well, when she was coming out of the pain & healing & not feeling so broken. I hope you watch the video-it's freaking hilarious-just remember when you watch it, TAYLOR'S NOT REALLY AT THE WEDDING! It'll make sense when you watch it! Miles Teller plays the other lead & Blake Lively directed it. And yes, Taylor grew up on a Christmas Tree Farm in Pennsylvania until they went to Nashville. And Jake was from a very wealthy Beverly Hills family with film connections. He used to tell Taylor not to wear heels cuz she was too tall, that he had better musical taste, that she wasn't funny, would act like she was lower class then him & he actually said something in an interview about wearing organic shoes! This is Taylor being so DONE! I've seen people be like 'She didn't need to be so petty' Why the hell not?! He didn't have to be a snobby dick (allegedly🙄). Loved this as always friend!

That’s the thing about Taylor… she puts it all out there. She does not hold back and I think that’s relatable to people which is what makes her so massively successful. Anybody can write a love song. She writes musical poetry based on her own experiences. Keeps her fans coming back for more and wanting to see what she’ll say next. Unbelievably unique artist.

Taylor's family was well off but she probably wanted to paint the class difference she felt with him more obvious. - the whole bridge is a call back to we are never ever getting back together. Him needing space + calling her and their friends to get back together after breaking up.

@@ohef17 what I love and respect so much about this kind of imagery from Taylor Swift, is that she plays with and maybe accentuates/exaggerates a line or two, but it’s all based in truth still. She’s always authentic. She did grow up on a farm, and the obvious picture of that class difference was necessary for her story here. But I also think it’s one of the things that makes her widely disregarded or misrepresented.

Taylor's family wasnt RICH rich tho. they were upper middle class. The Gyllenhaals are literally a Hollywood bloodline. I don't think a comfortable family from rural Pennsylvania compares to a Hollywood royalty with estates in California.

Taylor Swift was born rich or she only charts because her parents buy a million of her albums or Taylor can't sing or whatever terrible fault they find is usually facts being twisted Taylor Swift's parents were in financial services - her dad was a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch, her mom was a hedge fund consultant before she had children and stayed at home. So, a single income household from that point. No idea how well off they were, but they lived in Birne County PA on a Christmas Tree farm he bought from a client. Reading PA is one of the poorest per capita cities in the entire rust belt;. Some imagery of the farm is in the video for her 2019 single Christmas Tree Farm (yes, a Christmas song, with bells. and harmonies, and snow). Taylor has talked in interviews about cleaning the insect eggs off the trees (so your house isn't full of bugs and preying mantises that hatch out). She has also talked about her mom wanting her to be an equestrienne, and giving up horse training when she started playing guitar. They had horses and pets --- so taking care of the animals was part of growing up. IOW, they were well off for their area --- but a lot of the wealth was tied up in the farm. I think they may have put it up for sale when she started middle school, because they moved from the farmhouse to Wyomissing (West Reading suburb). For a lot of people who don't farm, they were rich; solidly middle class, anyway. Her Dad being able to transfer to the Nashville office of the brokerage was probably a big step up for all of them.

Some "poetic license" is used by Taylor to describe her humble beginnings. That kitchen table of hers sat in a VERY nice kitchen of an expansive house sitting on an 11 acre working Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania. Then, an even nicer one in town (Wyomissing, PA) before making the move to Nashville. None of it was Beverly Hills, but not a thread-bare existence either. What a song though! Another deep burn. You'd think he'd be crispy by now.
