Taylor has a song called Red in an earlier album that speaks of Love eventually or suddenly coming to an end. And Maroon seems to compliment that being a more mature tone of the colour red. Also speaks of Love coming to an end.

Listening to Midnights post-Joe breakup gives some of that album's songs a new perspective. I'm not one to speculate anything, but songs like maroon, midnight rain, labyrinth, the great war, and dear reader, definitely feel different when I listen to them now

I hope people realise that Midnights are from different periods in her life and the album was written somewhere around 2 years ago and not try to put them in the context of Joe now that they are broken up...THOSE SONGS ARE NOT ABOUT JOE (except the great war), but with all music, just put them in the context into your own life and not hers.🙏

Lavender Haze and Mastermind are also about him and their relationship. There's also speculation he's referenced in Karma possibly. So several songs were from the past almost 7 years of their relationship.

My favorite part is your predictions. Maroon to me is Taylor reflecting on a past relationship. Maroon is a shade of Red, it’s a dark shade of red infact. I personally believe Taylor is talking about her relationship with Jake G. in a different light. Jake was rumored to also have a roommate at this time. So it makes sense. Just my own thought on the song. This is a great track on Midnights

I'm convinced 'Midnights' was a breakup album & we all just didn't know it. I think things ebbed amicably and as she had deep thoughts about ending it, she wrote the album. You don't just wake up one day and end a 6 year relationship so it makes sense that she was thinking of ending things throughout this album's creation.

It's a very romantic song but also confusingly tinged with fear and melancholy: "lost in the labyrinth of my mind" is NOT a good thing. It makes more sense if the song was from a perspective of what you said.

I've been wondering if it's about Joe as well (considering the breakup). Being a Reputation stan, I've noticed that production on this song reminds me of the King Of My Heart performance on the Rep Tour (when they are playing those massive drums). I'm curious if that was a hint to us as KOMH was obviously about Joe. If some of these Midnight songs are about Joe, did he even know about them? I find it odd she would release this album in Oct and they broke up months later. Like "oh this is about me in a negative way" and still date her? I'm just confused about that.

I honestly believe this song is about her relationship with Harry Styles and/orJake Gykkebgaal in the past. Because that's where all the pictures and confirmation of them dating is when they were in New York. it could be either one of them. Midnights was written about 2 years ago, so NO, no matter how some of the fans try to change the original meaning of who these songs were written about becuase of the breakup..It is fine to do that in your own mind, but don´t try to say that is what Taylor really meant. This song is not about Joe. They broke up a couple of weeks ago and this music was written years before that. Taylor has said that Midnights is about thoughts she had alone at midnight from different times throughout her whole life. The songs believed to be about Joe on this album is "Sweet Nothing" "The Great War" "Lavender Haze" "Paris" and "Glitch" But I hope we as fans start listening to what Taylor wants and put the meaning into the context of our own lives and not hers... To be clear I don't think Midnights is about her break up with Joe, the timeline doesn't match up at all, but they're broken up, it's time to accept it. Once news outlets like CNN and GMA (which has a good relationship with Taylor) report on something like this and her team chooses not to comment is a confirmation.
