It really does, but I think this song isn't about an ex, rather her old life, saying there was too much in her to stay in a small town. It's obvious that the fame can be really hard, and I think midnight rain is her reminiscing on what it was like to be unknown, and why she had to leave that life

I guess everyone has their person whom they think of, when they listen to this song. Him and I, didn't work out. But till date, there is still such a deep connection between us. Even though, we both are dating different people now. We both have moved so ahead with our lives. He stays one of the most beautiful memories of my childhood. I miss him sometimes. Not romantically. Jack Antonoff is not a composer. He is a musician. The real composer is in a shadow. He wrote many incredible compositions like Lose You To Love Me Selena Gomez, Let Me Love You Justin Beiber, Melodies in1989 album and the other singers have his music like Dua Lipa.... He did not write words, only music. Chord progression and melodies. Probably, some musicians will try to continue that what the real composer had made, but I think it's impossible. He mixed jazz and classic together and made it a new pop style.

I disagree, Jack Antonoff produced in the past many great Taylor songs like Dress, Getaway Car, August, Look What You Made Me Do, Call It What You Want, Cruel Summer, Lover etc. but with Midnights I feel like it was a bit of a letdown from both Taylor and Jack. But I agree this version of Midnight rain is way better than the album one.
