"You think like every house is like your house." This is so true! I grew up in an abusive household and thought it was normal for parents to lash out physically. It wasnt until I was much older until I realized my childhood wasn't normal. This song made me cry :(

If you are impressed of the words Taylor used for this song, wait for "The Lakes" (folklore's deluxe track), you will google almost every single word hahahahhaah

The innocence of this song makes me so sad. I wonder how is that child doing in life now. I hope she got to hear this song. There are somethings that are simply out of our control and all we can do is hope.

i love the double meaning that comes with the line “i hit my peak at seven feet in the swing” not only does she literally mean swinging, but because of the pause she takes, it can also be taken as “hit my peak at seven.” as she’s reminiscing about the beauty of childhood, the imaginations, the ignorant bliss, as well as the innocent love, in some ways she really did feel like 7 years old was her peak
@deathby1000cats2 жыл бұрын
there's a double entendre in the lyrics "I hit my peak at 7 feet in the swing" it's partially literal, and she's partially talking about how much she misses the innocence and beauty of that age. there's no greater freedom and joy that you feel in life than when you don't know there's true evil out there. she wishes she could have that again.

Most of the music was Aaron's contribution; as far as Folklore, Joe did the melodies for Exile and Betty (which ended up on guitar). He worked on a few more on Evermore. When Taylor first contacted Aaron about writing, he sent her a big folder of music he'd written; she sent Cardigan back at 2:00 AM, done.

I think one of my favorite things taylor does with her songs is that she structures them according to the theme. The evermore bonus track “right where you left me” for example sounds like a loop in a way that it keeps trying to keep the topic going but ends up at that same restaurant table, just like that character tries to move on but can’t seem to continue her life past the breakup. And that is so present and so well done in seven too! The lyrics are so intense and full of feeling and almost unintentionally deep, just like a child, and how in the chorus taylor is talking about a thousand things at once, because that’s a child’s brain: digressive and intense

Most of the instrumentals are by Aaron Dessner. Joe came up with the piano melody in Exile and wrote the chorus to Betty.

I love seven. It's one of my favorites off folklore. And it's funny because it had to grow on me. And once it did it's just one of those timeless songs for me. I can't get tired if it. The story telling is great and the melody is so beautiful.

This song reflects so much about my summer holidays with my friends. We used to play near a creek and a stream. We used to scream at our parents before we learn civility. Now I am like, how could I not do that things again, how I've grown up, how the time flies and far away from my childhood friends. I love every song from Folklore especially, 1.August,2.seven,3.the last great American dynasty 4. illicit affair 5.exile

I think that going forward (or maybe even for this album, because it’s so pretty) you should try reading her prologues. She writes beautiful prose for each album introducing the concept and sometimes even explaining a little bit some of the songs and the ideas that she had when she wrote them. Her prologues are very short but gorgeous and I find them helpful when I am trying to interpret her lyrics.

Loving the folklore series! Looking forward to the rest of them! Also, I thought 4th of July would be a good time to request a specific Lana song that's not on any album. She and Jack wrote and recorded Looking For America in 2 days a few years ago as a response to several mass shootings (which unfortunately is always timely). But the production is so stripped back, just a little guitar and her beautiful harmonies - kind of similar to July from Noah Cyrus, which I remember you loved! I wish Looking For America ended up on NFR because it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life. But yea, just a unique suggestion that I'm not sure anyone else will mention 💙

I see this song as an Easter egg. I don't believe that Taylor actually had a friend in an abusive household, but Taylor needed to signal a future endeavor. Over the recent past we've become aware of the physical and sexual abuse of children by members of various religious groups. The victims were believed, if only because the churches were big targets needing down dressing. To me this was the first wave of disclosures. That wave empowered and emboldened the second wave to begin, namely the victims of non-religious institutions and celebrities. I'm thinking Bill Cosby, Jerry Sandusky, Boy Scouts of America. This second wave crested with Harvey Weinstein and #MeToo. The third wave is yet to begin in earnest. By far the greatest number of childhood sexual abuse victims suffered at the hands of family members and friends of the family. But they are voiceless. They have no platform. I'm predicting that Taylor will spearhead the greatest healing initiative of all time by becoming the voice of all these voiceless victims. In her Vogue 73 Questions interview, she's asked what superpower she'd want if she could have one. Her answer was immediate and deadly serious "To heal people."
