White people are the main demographic of her sales - so to say old wht ppl love her is suggesting parents of the children who love taylor are buying her records for their kids - and then their are older generation who like her because she is very plain and non-threatening. MJ, Madonna, etc etc or even in recent times bruno mars, rihanna - to a lesser extent i think they would find Ed Sheeran too "dangerous" as well... so she is marketable because she is - plain and safe musically. I’m two months older than Taylor to the day (October 13, 1989- shout out lucky 13s!) and growing up as a teenager in the aughts among certain music scenes there was a lot of “I’m too cool for mainstream music, Taylor Swift is so overplayed, I only listen to GOOD music” Flash forward to 2017, Rep comes out and fall in love with it, start listening to her back catalog and realizing “Oh, what a pretentious twat I was because this woman is SO talented and I’m an idiot for being close minded”. Followed by “Lover”, “Folklore”, “Evermore”, “Midnights”, “TTPD”, the TVs and vault tracks, “All Too Well 10 minute version” and by age 33 essentially forcing my boyfriend to attend the Era’s Tour with me, singing along with every song and in absolute joy. Point is, haters, don’t hate just ‘cause you think Taylor Swift is overplayed, overexposed, too famous to possibly be that good. She IS that good, and there is a reason she’s the first musician to be a billionaire based on earnings from her music alone. There’s a reason the Swifties are the biggest, most scary stan group on the internet. Taylor is a once in a generation artist with an INCREDIBLE ability to write songs that are universally relatable and uses the English language in the most beautiful way to tell stories that are irreverent, heartbreaking, funny, sometimes absolutely savage, raw, and perfectly crafted. Egg on my face for waiting so long to have an open mind and realize that, holy sh*t, this is a once in a lifetime talent and icon and we are lucky to experience her journey as a singer/songwriter/performer in real time. The Eras Tour slays btw, NEVER have I seen a show that delivers on a level that is unmatched by any other.
