The archer is one of her most heartbreaking and beautify written songs. Not only because of the lyrics, but because of her voice, I love how she can make you feel whatever she wants trough her voice, you can feel the pain and the anxiety trough out the whole song. Masterpiece!

I looked it up, what this song could possibly mean and I learned this song is deeply about Taylor that a lot of others could relate. This song is about her struggles with her vulnerability and trust in relationship. Taylor compares herself to the archer, saying she's ready to defend herself from being hurt, but this also makes it difficult for her to let people in. "I've been the archer, I've been the prey," is about how she has been hurt in the past, but Taylor also acknowledges that she has hurt others. This song is about how she is afraid of getting hurt again, but she also wants to find someone who will stay with her. "Who could stay?" reflects Taylor's uncertainty of finding lasting love. The song ends with the line "You could stay," which suggests that Taylor is finally starting to believe she is worthy of love. This song shows her willingness to be more open and vulnerable with her fans.

I like to think imgonnagetyouback, The Bolter, and the Archer have the same narrator. All their stories 📖 flow nicely into each other. About a woman with Antisocial Personality Disorder, who learns to accepts herself (in The Bolter), and eventually finds someone who's personality gels with hers (The Archer) calming her down. She struggles to figure out how to tell him her feelings. And tell him how everyone else, except her father, has always hated her once they knew who she was. She wonders why this guy is not repulsed by her. Sometimes having doubts he really knows her or that he has some ulterior motive. Just because she has no explanation for him staying loving towards her. She does not blame people for hating her. She hates herself as well. She loves him dearly, finding her true love 💗. And is ready for the "combat" of having to confess her feelings on the matter.

@@mthsongs3596 Taking this line alone, I understand literally she doesn't liking her self image for some reason. But, when you take it with the line before "and I cut off my nose just to spite my face..." I understand it as she takes action/does things for revenge or whatever/allows things to happen to her, knowing it won't be good for her, then she dislikes the consequences, she regrets doing/allowing that to happen, but she has to live with that for a long time, cause what's done is done. Of course, I can be totally wrong 😅

This song holds a special place in my heart. The day this video was released, was a very hard day for me. I left my family for the first time and went to France for my education. I was staying with a family who treated me so badly. They yelled at me all the time and looked down on me. I was missing my family, trying to focus on my studies and handling with the family that I was staying with at the same time and one day when it was all too much I just started crying in my bedroom. I felt so alone, thousands of miles away from my family and friends, but suddenly I got a notification on my phone. It was Taylor, releasing The Archer lyric video and at that moment I felt like she was there with me and she was telling me that everything was going to be okay and stop crying . Thank you Taylor, you may never read this comment but thank you for making me feel not alone. You were there for me when I needed you the most and I will always be there for you too. I love you.

What I relate to:- "I jump from the train, i ride off alone" "Hate my reflection, for years and years" "I see right through me" "Cause all of my enemies started out friends" "Who could ever leave me darling, but who could stay" The increase in beat ( makes me feel like anxiety is building up and there is no way to stop it.) And it never drops

In All Too Well we had a climax because at the end of that song she wanted to show off her pain in a sort of "furious" way. It was the cry of desperation of a 20 year old girl. Now, 7 years later, she's a woman pushing 30 and she's got a different way to react to hurtful situations: the general tone is more somber and reflective, mirroring her (new?) ability to cope in an adult-like way. She's in a stable relationship and she can reflect on her fear of losing it all in a sad but mature state of mind. No need for a climax.

@@craloslius8631 I used to listen to country radio a lot growing up when Sugarland and Rascal Flatts' Life is a Highway from the Cars movie anthem were killin it, and Taylor's been a big name starting off during that fall of 2006. for me the first part of "they see right thru me" is about how people around me just saw past me and never tried to know me on a deeper level. but "can u see right thru me" is asking a specific person is they can see my pain, my hurt, my suffering, my anxiety. however that person, just like the others see past me and hence the second part of "they see right thru me" and in the end, even i myself started ignoring my own self, "i see right thru me".

@@larryjane4926 Why wouldn't she write the songs herself? Or do you mean ALL by herself? Because she has co-writers at least for most of the newer songs. Still HER songs, though. Do you write songs? Because I do. And just because my band co-writes them of course, it's still my song if the idea and the lyrics and the main structure are my creation.
