Imagine losing your best friend and all of your morning routines, weekend errands, hidden coffee shops and shared mechanics. You'd lose an entire part of yourself. It hurts because it's brutal honesty of losing someone and then choosing a version of a person that would never be you in this life.

I feel the same way. Then I start to wonder if I feel that way because of how much her ex hurt her in ending their six year relationship OR if I feel this way because I am SO happy that she is finally dating someone who is fearless about expressing his feelings and emotions for Taylor. I share the world’s secret wish that she and Mr. Travis Kelce create the family of their dreams. I do not believe she needs to be married to have children or move in with Travis. Two independently wealthy individuals, g🎉ting married, has enormous financial consequences and we all know daddy Swift will communicate the wisdom in signing an iron clad prenup. I also realize that the public has seen only a sliver of their romance but what the world is witnessing is beautiful. When I see videos of her walking with Travis, I notice that she has her head up high as she confidently walks, hand in hand, with Travis. This is in stark contrast to how she walked in the very few glimpses we had with JOE Alwyn. The videos we do have of them, together, often show a Taylor looking down at the ground as she walks. Joe made her world smaller. In contrast, she is proud to walk with Travis and he is proud of her. It is very clear that he is mesmerized by her pure talent. We saw, of course, that Taylor was equally mesmerized by Travis’s talents during the 2024 Super Bowl. She sings to us about a possible wedding while confirming that her listeners will not be invited to the wedding. Then I start to fantasize about her holding a live stream of a wedding between the two, with proceeds from the live stream to go towards their favorite charities. In my mindscape, they get married, for real, in a private ceremony but about a month later, they create a public ceremony where she could wear her wedding dress a second time. In my mind, I imagine their first dance as a couple being the alive Song. Sorry for digressing, I just get tremendous joy out of world building events like this.

For me this song made me think of The Oxford English Dictionary that states that back in 1776, Dr Samuel Johnson used the term ‘The Black Dog’ to describe melancholy and clinical depression. A black dog breathing on the back of your neck is a metaphor that describes the sensation of looming heartache and sadness, something I think about at the lyric “You forgot to turn it off” Imagine the numbing dread, sadness and betrayal of seeing your partner somewhere they shouldn’t be.

@@christiand8243 Taylor is kinda known for giving credit for anyone working with her. A lot of people who has worked with her has stated she gives them credit even if she writes like 90% of the songs. And also she most of the songs on the new album is with co writers who why would she lie about a few songs that she actually wrote herself. Make no sense. Just say you’re a hater

I think black dog is actually about Matty, not Joe because the lyrics make more sense for him. I want to point out around 2:02, she talks about how you dont miss me in the shower and "remember how my rain-soaked body was shaking." Matty was at her epic eras tour concert in NASHVILLE where she performed in the rain. So this is after that concert and being in the rain and intimate together 😮.

@@Firewillreign-f8kalso, the bar owner might have been saying that to keep the hype up. There is a theory that it is about a bar of the same name in dublin where the 1975 had a concert shortly after the break up between Matty and Taylor was announced...

First female singer to become a billionaire from connecting to her emotions through music!!??? While men stand by with their arms crossed insisting she is mediocre. we listened to her music and not their resentful critical reviews.

1:23 I felt this hit hard bc me and my best friend are both SWIFTIES well at least we’re she stopped being a Swiftie and I didn’t mind bc people change (Taylor’s version) but it felt so sad bc we were both going downs together and we would find Taylor swift lyrics we both related to and talked to each other abt our lives together and all of that was bc of Taylor and we we’re both getting hated for liking Taylor and I know that she likes her but she doesn’t want to be a Swiftie bc of how much the hate affected her Taylor brought me and her together and Taylor I’m still going I’m a long life fan and I love you!

I am something of a skeptic when it comes to Jack Antonoff productions in the current day, but this one is an overwhelming exception to that rule. The most heart-shattering song in this album both lyrically and production wise.

"And remember how my rain soaked body was shaking" Reference to the ending of delicate music video? Also in delicate, it says "you must like me for me", here, "Do you hate me?" ....heart shattering 😍😍😍😍😍😍

Referencing her Nashville show that Matty attended. It was a rain show. Also the show where she mouthed the infamous “This one is about you. I love you..” to Matty

I just learned that Black Dog is a metaphor for depression. I know it is not directly referenced in the song. But having this information and the line from "I can do it with a broken heart" just goes to show how " down bad" she really was and this was her way to let it out. I have so much respect for Taylor and the way she turns her pain into art that resonates with the universal experience of loss and grief and depression.

This song and Loml are easily the saddest songs on the entire album and possibly two of the most gut wrenching that she’s ever written, along with a few others. Both of them are so resigned and sad and her lyrics, music and voice is so phenomenal in both.
