When she says: I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere... The metaphor there is INSANE. People speculate a lot about who the "you" is in this song. A lover, a friend, a family member? I think the "you" is yourself. I think this song should be interpreted as a song to yourself. To let yourself know that you're trying. Trying to get back who you used to be before the mental illness, or addiction. Trying to stay strong. "You're a flashback on the one screen in my town" could mean yearning and searching for that past version of yourself before the mental illness took over. That's what I think anyway. Remember, be kind to yourself. If all you did today was survive, I'm proud of you. ♥️

First time I listened to Folklore, I thought the songs were kinda the same but as I continue to listen and get to know each song, it's weird but they started to all sound different, each holding their own beauty, depth and serenity. They begin to grow on you in a most wonderful and surprising way! It is oddly magical.
@mzt87874 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly. The album felt sonically the same. But once you repeatedly listen, each started to shin differently in different light. At the end none of the songs sound the same anymore.
@harrisonbaguley56914 жыл бұрын
i think it's because a lot of the instrumentation is very similar, and the album has a very clearly outlined harmonical theme that is carried throughout, so at first listen when you're mainly just absorbing the song as a whole instead of listening to the lyrics as their own entity, you just hear the similarity. it's quite clever really, because the more you listen the more meaning you glean from the lyrics, and the more you can understand the concepts explored. like for example, the lyric 'pulled my car off the road to the lookout, could've followed my fears all the way down' didn't mean anything to me on my first listen, but now it makes a lot more sense and adds more meaning to the rest of the song as a whole

I don't know if anyone else felt this way when listening to this song, but instead of viewing this as talking to another person, I imagined it as me talking to myself. It works both ways talking to my past self and my future self. As someone who feels like their life has fallen apart when I used to be in such a better place I feel like this song is me telling myself that I'm trying to get better. In some of the lyrics, it almost feels as if she isnt talking about a relationship but about her career, and how since she didn't receice a grammy, she thinks she fell behind all her classmates though she used to be the one ahead... and it relates to how most of us feel that we used to be so intelligent and now qe are strugglimg to pass our tests.....
@KetlinCarramanhos4 жыл бұрын
It feels like she is talking to us... The Swifties about her career. And that this Album is she trying... "I've had a hard time adjusting. I had the shiniest wheels now they're rusting. I didn't know if you'd care if I came back. I have a lot of regrets about that." I mean, it sounds like she is talking about the time of the big scandal with the call from Kanye and she disappeared cause she didn't know if we would support her. " And maybe I don't quite know what to say, but I'm here at your doorway. I just wanted you to know that this is me trying" Like she didn't really know what to say to us, but she is trying.

This hurts me so much cuz all my life I’ve been the perfect student, got all the accolades and awards, got all the praise, and now I’ve come to the point in my life where I’m nearing the halfway point of my college career and I’ve just…lost the motivation. I don’t know where it went. I used to procrastinate so much but still get everything done correctly and well but now every assignment just leaves me dreading it with a pit of anxiety in my stomach that won’t go away. And it’s so hard to just admit that to everyone when everyone I know has so many high expectations for me since I’m the one that raised them that high. I can’t seem to keep up with the pressure anymore. So many people I know are still going strong but I’m finally falling behind. This song just gets it man.

@@magicalworld4891 Kendrick might not be on that list that doesn't matter to me but especially for you i think you'd love the fact that Kanye is above her on that list, so by your logic is kanye officially a better artist than Taylor. So sit down and be humble.

Im ugly crying right now. And im not even a big fan but honestly, the lyrics just hit like a subtle gunshot while the instrumental hugs you from behind. thank u for this one Taylor.

The effect of this song to those going through depression is HUGE. Its comforting to know that someone knows and understood the feeling. This song and Inner Demons by Julia Brennan are my listen-to songs whenever I'm feeling down. Thanks Taylor for this powerful song. I love it so much. Makes me cry everytime.
