Just FYI, your using those diff bushings wrong, as it is with the bolt connecting the diff to the car the bush is not being used at all. The diff mount you just made should connect directly to the bush sleeves, welded straight to it, then when its all bolted up the poly will actually be between the two components. Love what your doing
@FabZtoy4 жыл бұрын
yup. the torque applied is putting the bolts under tension so the bushes are not used at all. My idea to quick fix that because he put a lot of effort in that mount would be to put some polyurethane cushioning washers on the other side of the mount. I did a quick search and found some on Mcmaster-carr.

Yeah I plan to re design it eventually, but it worked as is. Basically solid mounting it with a little bit of flex from the face of the bushing. I'm going to use this same mount from the boxed section, weld tubes off coped to the bushing sleeve sideways, then hanger mounts. I just haven't decided if I want to re do the subframe mounting portion or not when I do that. So this got us by for now and all were wasting is the 1/4" section.

Little tip in case you care or wanna know... When painting little bits n pieces it’s always easier to hang them on thin wire. Multiple reasons why it’s a benefit. Keeps it off the floor and generally gives a cleaner finish because you’re away from the floor(dirt/dust), although not always the case. Secondly you can hold the wire up in your eye line and get nice even coats. Then hang it me somewhere to dry, if you have good airflow they should dry quicker too. Hanging them up also gets them out of your way and won’t make you grab them early and fit them when still tacky. Out of sight sorta stuff. Just a tiny tip, cheers mate, love the content.

For the exhaust, dual side tips dumping out behind the tires (one dump per side) to direct the tire smoke to spread out to make the clouds less dense but cover more area. I have no idea on how the spacing would be since I feel like you can't have the tires too close to the exhaust or the gases would heat up the tire quickly and hinder tire life. Also when you pop tires it might be in the way and get damaged. But that is my 2 cents to make the rear be filled out and look sick at the same time and not be goofy :). Whatever you do, I know its gonna look tight.
@brandonpayne12074 жыл бұрын
Duel oval tips exiting under the bash bar would be sweet. I have a concern with your new(and old) diff mount. The way you run the bolt through the bushing and both mounts causes you to have no movement when the bushings/bolts are in tension. All of the force and vibrations go straight through the bolt into the mounts which is what caused your last mount to fatigue. In compression the force goes through the bushing still as long as you don't have a metal sleeve inside the bushing like you would on a control arm or leaf spring bushing. Then there would be no dampening cause it would be rigidly mounted. You could turn the bushings sideways, welding the bushing sleeve to the diff mount and some tabs on the chassis so you can run the bolts through the tabs and bushings allowing some flex. If it's too rigid, it creates high stress locations and fatigue cracks to form.

@Taylor Ray pause the video at 14:38 I would do a turn down right there next to the diff mount. Essentially take that 90 off and turn it down there. Then it adds to the “showing off” the under works of the car. Downside yes it’s loud but it’s a race car 👍🤷♂️

You still have the issue of those bushing sleeves only providing cushioning in compression, which with the way you've mounted it will be very rare. Currently the diff basically hangs off the bolts and transfers that force directly into the mount. Any time the diff does move up and manage to compress the bushings, it will essentially be sprung back down with full force through the bolts. For the bushings to allow any dampening effect, you would need to have them in the actual plate, with a crush tube and large washer holding the bushings from beneath.

@cstarbuilt33384 жыл бұрын
I like what you did with the diff mount. A little advice for future projects. You make a lot of small pieces and then weld them together. You then have a lot of welds and therefore failure points. Try making bends in the plate instead of of scabbing pieces together and it will be easier to build and stronger. For example on the bottom of the mount, there is two pieces of steel in different thickness, that could have been one very solid piece of 1/4.

Bash bar looks Killer! I think a triangle exit through the Jack point would be sweet. Kinda exotic and will keep the axle back central in case of a corner hit which is more likely than a direct hit from behind.
@shawnroxby56294 жыл бұрын
The exhaustless look is nice. I would probably put a high flow muffler after the vband, then a 90 to point it towards the hanger and the cut end parallel to the ground after it hits the hanger with a 90 so it points down. Or cut the end flush with the “body line” at the end before the bash bar.

You should consider painting the bash bar instead of powder coating it. Paint it with STEEL IT stainless steel gray, for one it will go good with black and you can also weld over the paint if you need to further modify it or fix it and still be able to touch it up afterwards. Then paint the roll cage the same color.

Taylor, if that diff mount does not last, I have some thoughts: The main force applied to the mount is the torque reaction from the driveshaft. That means one bushing is in compression and the other is in tension which is probably bad because the bolt holds the tension and it won't strech. If you flip the passenger side bushing on top of the chassis mount, I think that puts it in compression so the bushing can compress under torque. Of course this requires a bigger and more complicated diff mount bracket. One more thing, the plate on your bracket is pretty low due to the height of the bushing. You really want to have the bushings 180° opposite each other about the pinion axis. I have a feeling that it might work better if your driver side bushing was shorter but that really depends on the pinion height which I can't really see.
@J10on4ds4 жыл бұрын
The main “force” is more likely the torque of the axles / tires meaning the pinion is trying to go up while the diff cover is pushing down... (imagine a drag car pulling the front wheels for example) Most of the driveshaft “rotation” from left to right is being handled by the front diff mounts.
