started crying when I read this😭 this is exactly me and a guy I “dated” for 3 months. he was my coworker and during work stuff he would tell me to pretend we weren’t even friends. We always met in the middle of the night and it was at his place. If he tried to cancel because he couldn’t meet until it was 3 in the morning I would wait up for him. Once he made me wait outside for 2 hours begging me not to leave and when I finally met up with him that night I overheard him asking another girl for her Insta. I did not hang out with any of my friends during those 3 months. When I finally told him that I wanted him to take me out on a real date, he cut me off 3 days later. Or he cancelled plans once and then never texted me again. As someone who was the August girl in another story, “meet me behind the mall” hurts different. The way you know you are a secret and you accept it because you’re also ashamed. And “you weren’t mine to lose” wow! You tell that to yourself and it’s so bittersweet. It makes you feel like there’s nothing you could have done, you’re simply not who they love, and you’re not even heartbroken because you know you can’t be as the other person never risked their feelings and you hurt yourself at a vulnerable moment, but you can’t even feel sorry for your pain because you know that your actions could hurt others and you were selfish. This song really puts word into emotions that are hard to explain.

August is undoubtedly my favorite song on the album, never has a song made me feel so identified, so broken along with illicit affairs. Currently I live a story just like this, in love with a man who already has someone by his side and a life already cleare out, while I have lived in the shadows for a year, and continue to do so. And Taylor talking about this song in her documentary, explaining that the other woman is not always the villain who comes to take your man away from you, no, but she also has feelings... that really touched my heart because she is absolutely right. I can assure anyone who reads this that it is so, today I have to live this situation but I never wanted to hurt anyone, I simply never loved someone like this before, to the point of giving my all for him, not even the only one boyfriend I had. Stephen Mitchell Taylor was first introduced to me 7 years ago by my then 7 year old granddaughter. I have a wonderful clip of her lecturing me about what I was missing by not being aware of these great songs. Time has passed and the granddaughter is now a sophisticated 14 year old and has only heard the new album once and yet to decide on an opinion. Meanwhile I’ve now played it several times, including all the available clips and I think it outstanding. Having spent my working life in music, radio and TV it’s great to have a family that keep Me in touch with their likes. Cheers👍🎼🎵
