exile feat. bon iver - lyrics:
written by taylor swift, william bowery & justin vernon
I can see you standing, honey
With his arms around your body
Laughing but the joke’s not funny at all
And it took you five whole minutes
To pack us up and leave me with it
Holding all this love out here in the hall
I think I’ve seen this film before
And I didn’t like the ending
You’re not my homeland anymore
So what am I defending now?
You were my town
Now I’m in exile seeing you out
I think I’ve seen this film before
I can see you staring, honey
Like he’s just your understudy
Like you’d get your knuckles bloody for me
Second, third, and hundredth chances
Balancing on breaking branches
Those eyes add insult to injury
I think I’ve seen this film before
And I didn’t like the ending
I’m not your problem anymore
So who am I offending now?
You were my crown
Now I’m in exile seeing you out
I think I’ve seen this film before
So I’m leaving out the side door
So step right out
There is no amount
Of crying I can do for you
All this time
We always walked a very thin line
You didn’t even hear me out
(Didn’t even hear me out)
You never gave a warning sign
(I gave so many signs)
All this time
I never learned to read your mind
(Never learned to read my mind)
I couldn’t turn things around
(You never turned things around)
Cause you never gave a warning sign
(I gave so many signs)
(So many signs)
(So many signs)
You didn’t even see the signs
I think I’ve seen this film before
And I didn’t like the ending
You’re not my homeland anymore
So what am I defending now?
You were my town
Now I’m in exile seeing you out
I think I’ve seen this film before
So I’m leaving out the side door

They do mesh well together. Though Bon Iver sounds like he's singing really live small imperfections - and Taylor's parts sound like a backing track, like her voice is repeated 5 times, but also too perfect. Wish they were on the same level - and that she'd allow herself to make some mistakes.

It's the fact that this was the most mature song nominated and the only one with a storyline. So well-written without needing 5+ writers, great production without needing 10+ producers and the outstanding emotional delivery of the two real artists who have completely different voices, yet they blend very well This is why it was the best, not because it was an indie and slowed down song, so it's automatically deep and the best Songs like Style, New Romantics, Blank Space and Cruel Summer were pop, upbeat and mainstream, yet they had a storyline with great lyricism and metaphors

I still remember her call with the publicist in her Netflix documentary talking about the zero nominations for Reputation album in Grammy. I felt horrible. But I remember that she was telling she’s gonna work hard and come up with better albums (but Reputation is one of my favourite albums though). Yeah, look at her now with her 6 Grammy nominations. Taylor Swift is the music industry.

You shouldn’t make music to win grammys, you should make music for the passion and for the art of it.
@unnnnnii
@unnnnnii 3 жыл бұрын
@@Luke101 I don’t think she meant that way. I remember her telling that she can make as many hits as in 1989 but she never would work around same line of music again. Look at Reputation and Folklore, they both are different and distinctive. Only a true artist would do that. If she want charts, I am sure she can make many hits as in 1989. And there’s nothing wrong in expecting an award for the hardwork you put in making an art. It further motivates you.

Honestly, the progression of both Taylor and Justin Vernon as vocalists is an attribute that consistently impresses me. Vernon has often leaned on vocal manipulation and layering, but if you go back to his earliest work and compare it to his most recent releases, you hear how strong and confident he has become in that regard. Seeing Bon Iver live in 2019 I was honestly floored by the command he has over his voice.
