the line “i think your house is haunted, your dad is always mad and that must be why” always hurts me. i didn’t grow up in an abusive house, but the innocence of not knowing why a parent is mad all the time hurts no matter what
@fe50184 жыл бұрын
When I listen to Taylor sing the lyrics, I kind of just offhand heard it as the dad must be mad because of the influence of the haunted house on him but reading your reply, it really does come across like it's his anger that actually haunts the house. And yeah, that's a chillingly relatable feeling for some.
@fe50184 жыл бұрын
@rose petal, as i said, that was my initial assumption but I think it works on both levels, which I hadn't thought of until the op's comment.
@danyajayne4 жыл бұрын
same with me. I didn't grow up in a abusive house (i'm so grateful for that). and you perfectly put what I felt, in a sentence. I think I can also kinda relate from Taylor's perspective cause growing up, I had a friend who had parents that would argue with each other every now and then and her and i would just hang out and play at my place. Just today I had the album playing while i was putting on makeup and when this lyric came up my eyes started watering. I think I'll always get teary eyed when it comes up.

My friend told me this song reminds her of me, and I now I’m listening to it again (though I’ve listened to it many times within the album) and I have realized that for her I’m the one singing as her parents are abusive and I have told her that she can runaway and live with me. So now I’m crying because this song has a whole new meaning to me, and I work every day to continue to be there for her in hopes that she will be able to get away as soon as she’s 18. I just had to share this with someone, even if it’s the void of the internet. And if anyone else relates to this song like my friend does, please know that there are people who love and care about you and your existence and if you don’t think that’s true, let me tell you no that I love you and hope that you find safety and refuge soon

The lyrics are bittersweet, not sad. This song doesn't focus on an abused child but the love children have for each other and want to help who they love. I teach high school but have taught grades 2-12 and have often witnessed how sweet children can be, and how clearly they can see things for what they are, before the fog of puberty and the confusion of teenage life hits. When she sings "But I knew everything when I was young" in Cardigan, I completely understand what she's singing about. I get welled up tears in my eyes every single time I hear this song. It reminds me of all the little souls I have taught and their stories. And yes, if you want to know if your teacher remembers you after you've grown up...yes we do. ❤ 💙 💜

one of taylor’s most relatable songs imo. the way a disco (mirror) ball is merely a spectacle, never getting the glory or praise it so desperately craves because it’s only a backpiece to a party; a pushover. i think that’s why it’s refered to as a mirrorball as opposed to a discoball, it never joins the disco, it only reflects itself with others for their enjoyment. my fav taylor song, by far

„I used to scream ferociously any time I wanted“. That’s the line that did it for me. I know no one will see this, but I just want to say Thank You, Taylor. I’ve recently started freshman year of high school, and I’m getting those hopeless and depressed mindsets and attitudes and what not. I been a similar experience 2 years ago, and listening to Billie Eilish really helped me through it. But as a new chapter of my life begins, my tastes tend to shift. I’ve loved willow by Taylor ever since it first came out, but I’ve only just recently discovered her entire folklore and evermore albums. I’ve loved Taylor ever since 2014, but these are the first albums that resonate with me and my wounded spirit, especially seven. Seven doesn’t accurately describe what I’m going through right now, but the line about wishing for happy times and memories describes what I’m going through on the nose. I still have a such a long way to go before I do again feel happy, but she’s with me the entire ride. I just know it. Thank you, Taylor. For all that you’ve done, and what you have contributed in my life 💚
