“one for the money, two for the show i never was ready so i watched you go” The phrase “one for the money, two for the show” is part of a rhyme. The full rhyme goes “one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready and four to go” and it basically means ‘ready, set, go’. The narrator didn't continue saying the full rhyme after saying the second verse because they weren't ready to go all the way to marriage amd that's why they said “i never was ready so i watched you go”

"Your Midas touch on the chevy door" Midas is from Greek mythology whom anything he touch turns to gold. So he touched the car and it turned to gold. But can a car go somewhere with gold tires? No. So even tough their relationship was beautiful and golden and shiny, it wasn't moving forward What a genius.

A long time ago I left my high school boyfriend behind on a different continent to start a new life in America. I went back last year for our 30th HS reunion, and when this song played at one of the parties, we just stared at one another across the room for 4 minutes. No words were needed. Fortunately we are both happily married with children now, and friends with each other too, but boy did this masterpiece bring back all those memories and emotions of young, intense love that never had its happy ending. Taylor Swift, such a poet and a skilled storyteller!

the pain in this song is unreal. yes, it must've torn the boyfriend character, but it shredded the girlfriend as much. it comes down on you i feel like on the spot, maybe it was too early to propose, maybe she didn't like him very much, but to see how she got replaced for not being ready is heartbreaking. evermore makes folklore seem full of joy

"Champagne Problems" is a song about how a person is preparing to propose to their lover. The person has already informed their family and their friends, who are all ready to celebrate and applaud once the engagement was done. The person is using their mother's ring to propose. The person even prepared what to say when they would propose. But before they could say anything, the lover ran away, because the lover thought that they weren't enough for the person. The lover couldn't give a proper reason as to why they can't marry the person. The lover says that they didn't know what to answer until the person went down on their knees. Everyone says the lover would have made a lovely bride, but it's a shame that they're already confused and conflicted on their own. Because the lover turned him down, the person booked a night train to get out of the place, so they could sit there all alone while hurting. The lover says one day that the person will find someone else who will say yes to them. Someday their friends group ( they are not sure they'll ever be able to say "our friends" again, because they won't be able to face the person or any of their friends) will get over the initial shock and then maybe one day they'll deck the halls again for when the person feels ready and finds someone to propose to again who will say yes for sure. This problem, that the lover broke the person's heart might not be a nationwide issue or that big of a deal to most people, because soon everyone will move on and forget all about it. The person and lover included. But at the moment, it does seem like a big problem. Taylor is a literary genius♥

The saddest part is when she says “you won’t remember all my champagne problems” at the end. The guy will eventually move on and resent the narrator whom he proposed to, not remembering what she went through but he will never forget how she hurt him. And the lyric implies that she will love him forever, while by the time she is ready he has moved on…

taylor swift wrote this song referring to someone she knows who is funny but fckd in the head,, she got that inspiration from this person's personality ive read a post before one of her friend ig... although this song and the rest of the songs on folklore are base on fiction but this one is the masterpiece the lyrics just flow like a river beautifully at the same time it's the most sad song on the album
@colina1479

then who is the person @kelie? folklore is fiction, but i kind of agree that still we don't know if all the stories are fiction we could say mix of a fiction and real characters.. we don't know.. as youve mentioned Taylor wrote this song to someone she knows who is "funny, fcked in the head" soTaylor Swift created a sad song story to that person?, well that is why Taylor is a queen of storytelling her imagination is out of this world but this song its like a tragic movie a girl rejected the guy's proposal sad sad story ... How i wish and dream Taylor Swift wil ever write a song about me i will cry like a baby and be the happiest person on earth!

Just a bit ago, me and my ex ended our 4-month relationship. He's a big Swifties and because of it, I got to listen to Taylor's music a lot more. One of our last words before saying goodnight and putting an end to us, he told me to listen to champagne problems. Now that he is sleeping, I finally listened to this song and got to know his side of our break-up more and more. He knows that breaking-up would be the best for both of us. I know that he still has feelings for me and will want the best for me. If you got to read this comment, I want you to know that I will remember your "champagne problems" and "I was enchanted to meet you" and most importantly, I truly wish all the best things for you. My wife tells me that at my age (just turned 70) I'm too old to be a Swiftie. She might be right, but I have just discovered this song, Champagne Problems, and I was gobsmacked by it. Gratifying to see a video that actually added to, rather than detracted from, the sublime beauty of the lyrics and her wonderful, wonderful voice. I may be old, but I'd rather like to be a Swiftie, also.

This song is musical genius! Not just the lyrics, the instrumentation - Taylor's new song Alcott has some similarities, ebb and flow of tempo with haunting background vocals and variation in Taylor's voice during the chorus, bridge. Very few songs speak from the POV of the person who left, part feeling guilt, part numbness, where everyone else dislikes them but no one ever hears their side of the story. She's one of the biggest stars on the planet because she really is a genius, not just because she made 20 chart topping pop songs - she shines in songs like these, which have a lot of words too, quite difficult to render at the pace and tempo she does!

Another detail I adore is the line "Sometimes you just don't know the answer till someone's on their knees and asks you." It's interesting cause when you ask someone to marry you, you get down on just _one_ knee, not "knees". Here, however, he not only got down on one knee to propose, he went down on both of them - as in begging. Representing his helplessness and desperation, imploring her to stay. He's on his knees in front of her.

@@sillygirl5470 i’ll gladly explain it from my pov! so tapestry is a form of textile art, and in this song, i personally think that it’s used as a metaphor (for his heart, perhaps). taylor breaks his heart (shreds his tapestry). but she believes he’ll find someone who’ll love him wholeheartedly and will ‘patch up his tapestry’ (fix his heart) that taylor shreds (break). but it can be a metaphor for something else, though😂 the point is, tapestry is a form of art. it’s something beautiful and valuable. and in this case, taylor ruins it. and she hopes the man will find someone who’ll patch it up and make it beautiful again.

“bustling crowds or silent sleepers you’re not sure which is worse.” this part is so brilliant. to think that sometimes, we don’t know if we want to be with people so we won’t feel lonely or be alone but we feel lonely.

I always looked at it as if he doesn't know if bustling crowds in the train would be worse because crowds of people would see him in pain, weeping. Whereas if the train was full of silent sleepers, no one would see him bawling, but they would hear him in the silence of everyone's slumber. So the person is contemplating if bustling crowds would be worse than silent sleepers.
