Isn’t great how Dorothea connects to folklore ? Taylor has stated that she believes that Dorothea went to the same school as Betty, James, Inez and Augustine. Also, I like to think that Dorothea is the narrator in Tis’ the Damn Season”. The song depicts a famous person who lives in a big city who comes back home to relight an old flame / hookup. The narrator, Dorothea, feels like being back in her hometown is the road that she should have taken. Now, in the song “Dorothea”, the narrator is Dorothea’s ex / old hookup who resides in their hometown and wonders how the now famous Dorothea is doing in Hollywood. The narrator probably went to the same school as well because they mention a little moment they had with Dorothea under the bleachers. I just love the fictional and sometimes non-fictional stories that come about with folklore and evermore. Simply lovely, Taylor!

This is a really cool theory! One thing, though, I thought the narrator of this song was a friend of hers, not an old flame? Mainly because they mentioned only seeing Dorothea through a tiny screen now ( Probably indicating they keep in touch through facetime or whatnot ). i think of my childhood best friend when i hear this song. we grew up together, and we did everything together. we were as close as sisters. a few years back, she moved to a different state, and for a while, i still saw her every other weekend when she was in town with her dad. we had such a strong bond that even her moving states didn’t separate us. the thing that did separate us though, was us simply growing apart as we got older. in my opinion, i think that will always hurt worse than having a big fallout, because you don’t really have a reason to not be friends anymore, but you just aren’t. i still love her more than anything. i still know her better than she does, i still know her house as well as my own, i can still read her as well as i could when we were still friends. i always wish she would come back to me. i only see her through mutual friends online. i see all of her new friends, her new school, her new hobbies, her new town. i just hope she knows that i will always be here, and that i will always be a major part of her childhood. i miss my dorothea, and i love my dorothea more than anything, and i just hope she knows that.

My interpretation of the song is about the girl from "'tis the damn season" and I think it takes place decades in the past. Dorothea is a more common name among older generations and the line "a tiny screen's the only place I see you now" isn't referencing phones, it's referencing the 1950's styled televisions that had tiny screens; Dorothea's a old tv/movie star from the 50's.
