@@chuakooleenashley3282 Taylor says that her ex partner brought her into paradise and then left her there/broke up with her after giving her all those beautiful memories. and the male perspective (Matt berninger ) is asking her whether he will ever gain her forgiveness when she's old enough to see past the mistakes and too smart to trust him or fall for his tricks again. hope this makes sense

As a woman married 31 years, I hear this song as a woman whose husband has passed away and she's sitting on a bench at Coney Island and wishing she had told her husband more that she loved and appreciated him. It's about regret and love and marriage. It's one of the most powerful narratives I've heard sung. Amazes me that someone as young as her can write this song.

"you paint me a blue sky , and go back and turn it to rain" Then, "when I got into the accident..." which reminds me of Harry Styles because of the whole accident thing. Then "and when I walked into the podium I think that I forgot to say your name." which reminds me of Calvin bc of him not wating to credit her for this is what you came for. Notice how Coney island' is essentially a busy and hectic place, bustling with activity and crowds of people. However, here, it's a piece of barren, neglected land with a single rundown Ferris wheel. to add to that, she says we were like the mall before the internet, it was the one place to be. like she's still stuck in the mall while the world has moved on to the internet- similar to her sitting in the formerly exciting, brimming with energy place that is now deserted despite the old appeal of it
@mickey-sr1wy3 жыл бұрын
bullseye, in the 1st verse she sings "how'd we get here so soon" which could refer to her travelling through time yet being stuck in the same location. "coaxed you into paradise and left you there" paradise parallel to coney island but without the lover, its miserable. I like your take on it!
@shalakaj5233 жыл бұрын
@@mickey-sr1wy paradise is an interesting word! she has used paradise in rep, and "coaxed you into paradise and left you there" could mean leaving her lover at cornelia street which is like a home for them if taken literally, like leaving someone where the energy and fantasy formerly worked well. on a metaphorical note- it could indicate convincing a lover to stay in secret despite adversity and then not being able to hold that promise and leaving them hurt as well.
@mickey-sr1wy3 жыл бұрын
@@shalakaj523 couldn't agree more. '𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦' is also an interesting word, a place which was hitherto associated with joyful, fuzzy memories of the lovers; is now a symbol of saudade or even.. regret. Home wasn't home any longer. Cornelia Street constantly reminds the lovers of 'what could've been' 'where they would've been, what they would've become' if they'd been brought upon different paths. The sole reason of the lovers considering a place to be 'paradise' was the presence of one another. It isn't leaving the other person in paradise- rather it is taking paradise away from them.

@Marina Kanan im not a swiftie either, but the fact many people could "make a fuss" is that they learnt to jump into Taylor's perspective to see the world through the very lyrics she wrote from folklore, now that world extended evermore. Plus, Taylor is playing easter eggs on her songs, connecting them into a massive universe, weaving a world of emotions that could paint moments of our lives and they hit some (well, many people) when they have the right mind for it. So if you can not understand about "the fuss", then its okay. Its just that you dont play the game and simply not in the right mindset she created from folklore. 😁

This song is such a great demonstration of her writing abilities. With this, she's proving to us that a song doesn't necessarily need to be 'flashy' and 'exciting' in all the conventional ways that are typically used to make music stand out - in order to be compelling. The production is nice, but it's not overpowering as it is in, I'd say, a lot of the music out there. It _forces_ the listener to pay attention to the lyrics, until they're hanging on to every word. Only when the song ends, and the full story has been told between the two characters in it, are you allowed to exhale and appreciate it for the lyrical masterpiece that it is. Not to mention the somber, withdrawn feeling state that it evokes. I can picture the character sitting in the cold, hunched over, staring out at vacant Coney Island, reminiscing on what once was. It's stunning. And, not to mention, Taylor wrote Matt's verse from what she assumed would be a male perspective. THAT'S talent.
@starcouniverse94113 жыл бұрын
she wrote Blank Space this way too. She wanted the lyrics to stand out than the production and it is rare for a pop song to be written that way but it still became popular because of the clever lyrics
@upscaleavenue3 жыл бұрын
@@starcouniverse9411 I'd say that Blank Space is a pretty flashy, exciting song, compared to this one. The lyrics do stand out, but the production is also a part of why the song got so popular. Break my soul in two Looking for you but you're right here If I can't relate to you anymore Then who am I related to? And if this is the long haul How'd we get here so soon? Did I close my fist around something delicate? Did I shatter you? And I'm sitting on a bench in Coney Island wondering where did my baby go? The fast times, the bright lights, the merry go Sorry for not making you my centerfold Over and over Lost again with no surprises Disappointments, close your eyes And it gets colder and colder When the sun goes down The question pounds my head "What's a lifetime of achievement?" If I pushed you to the edge But you were too polite to leave me And do you miss the rogue Who coaxed you into paradise and left you there? Will you forgive my soul When you're too wise to trust me and too old to care? 'Cause we were like the mall before the Internet It was the one place to be The mischief, the gift wrapped suburban dreams Sorry for not winning you an arcade ring Over and over Lost again with no surprises Disappointments, close your eyes And it gets colder and colder When the sun goes down Were you waiting at our old spot In the tree line by the gold clock Did I leave you hanging every single day? Were you standing in the hallway With a big cake, happy birthday Did I paint your bluest skies the darkest gray? A universe away And when I got into the accident The sight that flashed before me was your face But when I walked up to the podium I think that I forgot to say your name I'm on a bench in Coney Island wondering where did my baby go? The fast times, the bright lights, the merry go Sorry for not making you my centerfold Over and over Lost again with no surprises Disappointments, close your eyes And it gets colder and colder When the sun goes down When the sun goes down The sight that flashed before me was your face When the sun goes down But I think that I forgot to say your name Over and over Sorry for not making you my Making you my Making you my centerfold

coney island: Were you standing in the hallway? With a big cake, happy birthday The Moment I Knew (Taylor’s Version): And they're all standing around me, singing "Happy birthday to you" But there was one thing missing All Too Well (10 Minute Version): But then he watched me watch the front door all night, willin' you to come And he said, "It's supposed to be fun turning twenty-one"

SHE IS A F*CK*NG GENIUS "Were you standing in the hallway With a big cake, happy birthday"- Jake Gyllenhaal (The moment I knew) "Did I paint your bluest skies the darkest gray?"- John Mayer (Dear John) "And when I got into the accident The sight that flashed before me was your face"- Harry Styles (Out of the Woods, I also think Gold Rush might be about him) "But when I walked up to the podium I think that I forgot to say your name"- we all know who that m*therf*ck3r is, I'm not even going to mention him (I Forgot That You Existed, she also mentions in Miss Americana that she had no one to call when she won AOTY for 1989)

Gold rush is about Joe. "I'm highly suspicious that everyone that sees you wants you." from Lover which is about Joe. "Everybody wants you but I don't like a gold rush" from Gold Rush

Gols rush have a few clues pointing to Karlie Kloss. Karlie has an Instagram post captitioned Gold Rush and they wore matching gold tattoes to an event. Hair falling into place like dominoes also makes more sense for someone with long straight hair. The Line "walk past, Quick brush" for Victoria's secret fashion show.

@@Claraalicia it's because of the nostalgic feeling of the song and the fact that it is about a relationship that won't be. It's not a love song, she's just reflecting about having a crush on an extremely popular and insanley attractive person, which makes me think of Harry Styles. That's why she says "eyes so inviting, I almost jump in". It's just a crush, she does not really want to be in a relationship where loving that person feels like a gold rush, competing with everybody else for the love of this person. Dating Harry Styles during the "One Direction fever" must have felt like a gold rush, I mean, it would be a gold rush even now. Everybody wants him, he's the definition of attractiveness. I'm not a "haylor", but I think it is possible that this song is about him in my opinion. "I can't dare to dream about you anymore" and "The coastal town" that will never see them walking together because "it will never be". It reminds me of that picture of them with the seagulls in that little town in England and then Taylor wearing the t-shirt with seagulls in the cover of the 1989 album... And "my eagles t-shirt hanging from door" just reminded me of the picture of Harry wearing the eagles t-shirt... Also, "what it must be like to grow up that beautiful, with your hair falling into place like dominoes"... Harry's hair has always been famous. "You have that long hair, stripped back".
