To clarify on my comment in the video, brokers in Chicago don't charge a broker fee for help finding an apartment because we are paid directly by the building/landlord as a referral fee when our client signs a lease with them. So, technically not free.. we're still getting paid, just not by the tenant. :) Thanks again for letting me be apart of this, Taylor - hopefully you choose Chicago as your next home!

Chicago peeps REPRESENT 🙌🏽🙌🏽 this was so fun to watch. These areas are considered VERY high end and most Chicagoans can’t afford them. I would love to see you venture out into some of the residential areas of the city particularly North. It was so crazy to see the rental prices for some areas and how much they have gone up over the last few years. I used to live in Uptown and we were paying $1300 for a TWO bedroom. Now that’s the cost for a one bedroom in the area. 😳

Taylor if you like charming neighborhood feels, check out old town or Lincoln park. West loop seems like a perfect fit for you as well! I would honestly not live in river north or Gold Coast…it’s kind of touristy. I feel like the neighborhoods are where most of the locals live! Downtown is so convenient to access anyways!

It’s not that downtown spaces aren’t beautiful, but a true Chicago experience (especially if you don’t plan to be here more then a few years) would be Lincoln Park, Old Town, Logan Square, Wicker Park. Living in the neighborhoods is more my style and and coming downtown for events.

@@elc18381314 I lived in Lincoln Park years ago. The whose who, movers and shakers, live there or Astor Street. We don’t take those “luxury” apartments seriously. Maybe the Lake Forest people, who want weekend city living like them. I know several wealthy out of town folks keep a place in the city. Chicago real estate is where it is happening, from Beverly to Evanston and on up the coast. Properties selling for over asking and off the market in hours.

Our son (in his late 30's) moved to Chicago in 2015 and adores living there. For frame of reference and basis of comparison, he was born and raised in South Florida, went to college in NYC and continued living there for a few years afterwards, but then also lived in metro DC; Burlington, VT; and the Chapel Hill area of NC before moving to Chicago. We had never been to Chicago until he moved there, and now we can not get enough of that fabulous city. Yes, winters are super cold - but there is so much great stuff going on there that it more than makes up for the weather: fabulous theatre (at much cheaper prices than Broadway), a vibrant music scene, world-class museums, amazing food, legendary sports teams - not to mention Wrigley Field itself, dozens of neighborhoods each with their own unique personalities, and decent (better than most) public transit.

There are so many luxury apartment buildings here it’s crazy! I bought a condo but I cannot work from home and my family is here so it makes sense. I’d highly recommend finding a building close to an L stop if you don’t have a car. it makes exploring the city so much easier and less expensive than having to catch Ubers all the time. Buses are less reliable and are subject to the weather so the L is great!

Also, I never knew luxury apartments offered these many amenities, I had thought most offered a gym, great view, and garage parking. Idk if I’ll ever be able to afford an apartment of these caliber. I grew up living in a one bedroom apartment (with no living room or dining room, it was basically a small kitchen, 1 bathroom, small bedroom, and a carpeted area to sit on) with 4 people; anything better than that is truly a blessing for me. Im blessed to have a roof over my head, clean water, and good food on the table.

Keep in mind that they do full on light shows on the Merchandise Mart, so you'd need really good curtains to block that out, when needed. If you're still around, that building is not too far from where the Eastland Disaster happened on the river. There's a plaque that commemorates the site at Wacker and LaSalle. I did a haunted tour a few years ago and they say the spirts quieted down after the plaque was installed, 85 years later.

I love reading all the positive comments about Chicago but I have a somewhat different perspective. I was born and raised in the Chicagoland area - all of the counties that "collar" Cook County that is Chicago. I lived in the northern area of Cook County - Hoffman Estates, Palatine, Inverness, etc. I moved to Chicago, specifically Horner Park, and lived there for three years. I absolutely LOVED it. I had a 1 bedroom apartment that was huge and was pretty low rent wise. Then, I moved several blocks west to the Irving Park neighborhood and lived there for three years. That's where I saw a difference. Some gang activity that grew in amount over those 3 years. Definitely stick with the downtown area of Chicago and please don't let this weird but tragic situation at the Bean scare you off. The winters can be hard. I have chronic pain, fibromyalgia and some other things that make winter very hard for me. But if you have all those great amenities then you wouldn't have to leave often, during the winter, unless you want to. Please take my review with a grain of salt. Wherever you land will be the right place for you.💜💜💜

Yes the winters can be draining but you get used to it. I’m originally from LA and have also lived in Boston and NYC before moving to Chicago so I know a thing or two about big cities. Most of the people here complaining or overly paranoid about the crime are likely locals/Midwesterners who probably have lived in a bubble their entire lives. Lovely to see how the other half can live:) living in the city 15 yrs and there are millions of awesome places that don’t cost that. You are paying for the posh and the amenities so, for anyone else looking…..you can find for less and the neighborhoods are awesome

Yay so cool that you’re here! I just moved to Chicago a little over a month ago! The amenities in apartments in Streeterville/West Loop/South Loop area are cool but I personally love the charming vibe/old architecture/greenery in some of the other neighborhoods - I’m in Lincoln Park and I love it

This video made my heart smile to see my beautiful city being showcased for the world to see. BTW these new buildings are fun/modern but there's nothing like the older buildings that hold the history, the architecture charm and authentic beauty.. Chicago Chicago my kind of town!!!! .... First I want to say that I think anybody who is a follower of this channel would say: "Bring us more real estate, make up, and bomb food spots!" So.... yes please continue this series! I also am amazed at how expensive even the cheapest apartment you showed was, and that's just rent. Most places have home owner's association dues and all sorts of other costs/expenses associated with them. My best friend lived in Lincoln Park for several years and I always LOVED visiting Chicago. It really is a beautiful city. The apartments with the river views were to die for!!

OMG I live in Chicago too! There are so many incredible neighborhoods outside of the downtown/Streeterville area, if you are interested in older architecture :) Lots of amazing culture, food, and art! Definitely check out the Nick Cave show at the Museum of Contemporary Art (downtown on the Mag Mile near Water Tower Place) while you’re here. I think you’d also like the Fulton Market area 💕

I’ve been eyeing Chicago myself. Is there more affordable apartments? I don’t need all those amenities, just a terrace at most. I’ve been living in NYC for 20 years and am getting sick of the ever rising rents.

This is your jam!!! Love these videos in addition to all the other expert trades you share. I’m across the lake from you in West Michigan but lived in Chicago, my son was born in Chicago. In my younger days living in west Michigan we would leave at midnight to gain an hour and hit the clubs. We’d finish when the sun was coming up with a sausage food truck outside Wrigley Field. Everyone is so friendly in Chicago. Looking forward to your Chi-town vlogs 😘

The type of apartment shown at the last location is a Convertible. Sometimes it’s referred to as a Junior 1 bedroom. Usually the lack of a closet in the sleeping area and/or possibly a door distinguish it from a 1 bedroom. As you discovered sometimes the closets off a hallway in a convertible can be much better than 1 bedroom closets. Thanks for sharing the apartment tour!

Welcome to the city! We just bought our first condo here and I would have to disagree with you about purchasing vs renting here. The neighborhoods make all the difference. You basically just stayed in the "downtown" area, but you can get some great places outside of those areas, not a lot of people can purchase in those areas you looked at! In the neighborhood we were looking at, mortgage payments vs rental payments were becoming equal amounts of money, so it made sense for us to find a long-term condo!
