Batswana people are people of harmony. I am Xhosa and started staying with Batswana from the age of 6. My father worked in the mines for 45 years literally around Batswana all the time. I experienced a good childhood. I don't remember any violence or bad things happening in and around the commuties i stayed in. They used to help me with my homework and i came out with a distinction (81%) on my matric certificate and the whole community celebrated with me and my family. I further studied Bachelor of Education, now pursuing my master's degree in Languages, mainly preserving our African languages : Setswana language. I can relate to it better compared to more languages.

Me and a mate drove to Potchefstroom in the North Western Province of South Africa from Joburg one evening on a whim. When we got there we went straight to a local night club. I lost contact with my friend in the club and my phone was flat. I'd already made friends with a group and they offered me a comfy bed at no cost, next morning I called my friend and he came to pick me up. Tswana people are so laid back.

Rwanda got their template from Botswana. Many years ago a delegation from Rwanda came to Botswana on a benchmarking mission. They visited a research body called BIDPA (Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis) where they got a template on how Botswana planned to achieve it’s development goals. This is how Rwanda got the ideas for Vision 2020 (we had Vision 2016 and now Vision 2036)and learnt about things like National Development Plans aka NDP, which Botswana has been doing since independence. We are now on NDP12. We are happy to have spread some prosperity to Rwanda. Keep shining!

I would love to hear more from the choir that was at the top of the mountain. I'm so glad to learn that Botswana is a prosperous, democratic country that is pleasant to visit. Some countries that that are rich in resources don't improve much. Saudi Arabi is still a monarchy and the women have very few rights. Venezuela ended up as a complete wreck even with all its oil. So hats off to them for using their income from diamonds wisely. Wonderful video - thank you Tayo. Love from Tacoma, Washington, USA

I first came to hear of Botswana from a series of books: The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith set in Botswana featuring the character Mma Precious Ramotswe. I enjoyed the vibe these stories projected of the people and country, and wondered if Botswana really was that special. Being an American currently living in Tucson Arizona (never having been to Africa) Botswana would be the place I'd choose to visit.

Botswana became a British Protectorate in 1885. The three chiefs went to Britain 10 years later, (1895). They definitely were not there to ask for protection because we were already a protectorate. They went to protest against being transferred to the British South Africa Company
@juanlion1104 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the accurate history
@agentebaoke8925 Жыл бұрын
So how did it become a protectorate, and why a protectorate not a colony. How could they be transferred to British South African Company. The three chiefs went there to seek protection(it's a fact taught in school syllabus)because they feared Cecil John Rhodes will take or colonize their land, and also feared the Boers/Germans in Namibia were also close to doing the same.
