Coatis are wild animals, yes, but Taz has been domesticated and she grew up with a human mother. I work in a wildlife rescue and we often have cases of animals not being able to get back to their natural habitat because they've grown accustomed and comfortable in the care of humans. It's easy to cry ANIMAL CRUELTY but seriously, horses, bisons and such used to be wild but they have now become domesticated, and while cruelty to animals is everywhere, a lot of them are well taken care for and have the love they need from their owners. Also, as a side note, coatis are wildly domesticated in South America and make for a more and more common pet. To the Trolls: don't be so quick to judge someone's 4 min video and scream your disgust about something you probably know very little of. The little X mark on the top right (PC) or top left (Mac) of your browser window will allow you to instantly close the video that upsets you so much, I advise you click on it before you lash out in a rude and uneducated comment. Cheers to all, except the trolls :)

People are still very capable of taking care of animals. Personal opinion. You have yours and I have mine. I still think the same. She probably had a great explanation of why she gave the animal away. I am not asking for an opinion, I am just stating my own. Not causing an argument, but it seems you are.

Wonderful friendship you have with Taz Judy, thank-you for sharing this. Sounds like she is happy at the safari park, which is great. You will always have your special bond and you can visit her lots. She clearly really loves you and you her. I personally don't advocate people having exotic pets either unless it is for rehab purposes, due to injury or orphaned, and if the animals becomes to tame to release. All the best Judy, enjoy life and animals. I am vegan too for health and I could not eat another animal!

I just did some research on these adorable fur babies and it appears that they ARE domesticated in Central and South America. They do exist in the US south but not common. They recommend that the canines be filed in order to avoid damage to the care givers and dog nail clippers should be used to trim those claws. They are related to the racoons and should have a similar diet. They should be given shots just like a dog or cat and neutering or spaying is recommended UNLESS you are a registered breeder. They tend to be very active when awake so supervision be constant to avoid household damage. The shelter that you set up for her (according to the articles) was PERFECT for her/him and they like to burrow or snuggle into material when sleeping. You were lucky to have had the opportunity to raise her/him and considering that their wild life expectancy is 7 to 8 years and the domesticated ones can live up to 15 years..... you probably increased Taz's life. Kuddo's for giving her/him a wonderful start and I hope you have the opportunity to raise another. I loved this video.

Judy Mauldin I agree that animals should be free but if animals have been domesticated or has grown accustomed to easy life around humans they are more at risk in nature than with the humans who are making sure it is fed and safe from attackers.

Ok miss "I know everything about animals." I mean, Pattie. I think we all get the point that you have worked with many kinds of animals, and you have a degree in animal behavior. Blah blah blah. NO ONE CARES. This woman clearly loves her animal to death. And you have no right to criticize someone who truly cares for her animal. Tell me. Does this animal look like it's mistreated, and not cared for? I can understand where you're coming from. But if you really want someone to criticize, go yell at the people who DON'T take care of their exotic animals properly. This woman cares for her animal correctly. Don't yell at her for other people's wrongdoings.

Hello Judy, I really loved your coati, I'm from Brazil here they're named quati, I'm about to get one, a girl btw, loved your video and the way you used to treat her. Can you believe I couldn't find much informations about it as a pet? so can you tell me about the bites? Did she use to bite you? I've known that it hurts so bad and can cause severe injuries! Could you tell me more about it? Thanks a lot.
@JudyMauldin10 жыл бұрын
Yes they do bites... Taz got me on the hand when I was trying to do something she didn't want. She didn't like her pet Taxi and I was trying to put her in there and she let me know real quick NO!!! I got 3 stitches in my hand, but that was the only time she bit me. Now she didn't like men... She would attack and hiss at them... She got along fine with my husband but stranger not so much.. My main thing was her scratching... That hurts... You can have them declawed but I felt that was wrong with Taz... So be-careful and if you do get one make sure they are bottled feed and handled a lot as a baby...
@cdtbp10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for answering... The one i will buy is bottled feed from the breeder and has human contact 24h day! I'm not intended to declaw him because i don't like it (don't get me wrong) and here in Brazil that's not usual even in cats, they don't do that. But your answer was very hopefull thanks a lot and if you and we may keep in touch, thats my email cdtbp@hotmail.com

Judy Mauldin That is why they shouldn't be house hold pets, you guys would rather take out their canines, rather than take them somewhere they can be free and healthy. It's disgusting to say the least, you types are the same people that de-claw cats because you don't want to inconvenience yourselves. SELFISH

Wow, I love how everyone has an opinion on something they know nothing about! ANYWAYS, Can you tell me when her k-9s come in? I own a coati, and he's about 5-6 months old now. I noticed when his other teeth fell out, but I always forgot to ask the vet when I took him in for his vaccines. When was she full grown? do you know which version of the coati you have? When I first got Bo he bit me too when I tried to grab him in and out of pet carrier. But, he always calmed down once I held him to my chest, so I just used an oven mitt to grab him lol. He's never bit us like that since then, but he still does little warning nips when I invade his space in his cage. Sorry for the novel but it's hard to find information about them as a domesticated pet! And before everyone gets all judgemental, my vet is the the one hired by my local zoo to care for all of their coatis and not to mention, I bought him from a local breeder, so he's never been "wild".
Why did you ever have one if you didn't think it was right to own one?

Videos like this encourage people to buy exotic pets that they have no business owning. Then she went and donated her "precious mommas baby to the zoo"? Animals like that bond to their owners. I just think it's wrong to put videos up that will encourage people to get these animals as pets when we already have an overpopulation of domestic animals. Dogs and cats are put to death my the milo ions each year because they are abandoned. Yet people still buy from pet stores that keep puppy mills I business.
