I've always wondered about Elisha being angry with Joash. How was he to know he needed to strike the earth five or six times? God could have used Joash to defeat the Syrians after he struck the earth one time. God is Almighty. How can anyone say, "Joash should have known to strike more than three times." Really? How so? How many times does God have to say something for it to be true? How many times does God have to do something for it to be complete? Only once, unless he chooses more times. How are we poor humans suppose to know what's on God's mind. There's nothing in the text that would justify our saying, "Joash should have known".
