Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X: Review and overview

This joystick is great. I've got one of these and I´m very glad.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT (SELF MAINTENANCE) these hotas have a tendency to get drift in the stick after very little use and customer support won't help you, so here's how to fix them yourself if you already bought one. the issue is caused by the housing of the potentiometers being a bit too loose causing them to sometimes tilt inside their slot and giving you shaky output. All you need to do set them straight in their sockets , but to do so you'll need to take the thing apart. if it's the yaw acting up you only need to take apart the stick itself by unscrewing the screws on the left side (not the black flat head screw at the base, that's not actually a screw). the potentiometer is the little black box mounted on top of the white plastic shaft, just pull it out, twist the nob around a bit and put it back in with the wires coming out the right side. once you're done temporarely reassemble the stick using tape to keep it togheter (careful not to pinch a wire), connect it to your pc and use the joystick control panel to check if the issue has gone away (just tipe control on your search bar, should come up first with the icon of a gamepad). if it worked screw it all back togheter, else just take it apart again and repeat these steps until it does. The process is the same from the x and y axis, but it's a bit more work as you'll have to take apart the base instead. Start by unscrewing the screws on the round piece at the base and set them aside. move on to the screws below the base. don't actually take them out, just unscrew them and cover the hole with a piece of tape, faster to reassemble and reduces risk of losing one. once you open the base you'llse the base of the stick (the big round-ish white piece) and the x/y potentiometers stuck on the sides. to actually pull them out you'll need to pull out the stick base first, just unscrew the four screws facing up and it should give you enough clearance to pull out the pots and do the same thing as on the stick, just don't bother putting it togheter for testing, just plug it in wile it's still disassembled and give a couple flicks to the stick while holding the base, if the output is no longer jittery then just screw it back togheter. *NEVER DISASSEMBLE THE STICK AND THE BASE SIMULTANEOUSLY. IF YOU NEED TO DISASSEMBLE BOTH, DO ONE AT THE TIME* *TO AVOID MIXING UP THE POTENTIOMETERS ALWAYS TAKE THEM OUT ONE AT THE TIME, AND PUT THEM BACK IN BEFOR PULLING THE OTHER* *PAY EXTREME ATTENTION NOT TO PULL ANY WIRES WHEN THE STICK IS DISASSEMBLED* if after some time you're back at square one you can do the same thing but this time get some electrical tape and cut it into 4/5 mm wide strips. before putting the potentiometers back in wrap a long strip *once* around the sides of the case and apply a smal piece to the flat side of the knob. this should make them more stable and avoid the issue from repeating but avoid doing it unless it's necessary, and if by some miracle thrustmaster actually accepts to fix your hotas in the future *make sure to remove the tape before handing it in.* you won't void any warranty by opening up the case but traces of diy fixes may be used as a pretense to claim the issue is your fault. also, about the throttle part, I've never had any issues with it and I've never heard of anyone who has but the same procedure should work, only you're on your own when it comes to the disassembly. hope this is enough to help, reply if you have any questions. also this is not to be considered professional advice. I'm not responsible if you mess up your stick doing this.

@@bonbondonk8389 I no longer have the piece of shit, I had to do this about once a week and even got to the point where I had to re-solder stuff back on so I got myself a new one. It's not as hard as I make it sound, start screwing stuff apart and you'll understand no problem what the comment was talking about. Of course my actual advice would be to ditch the little bastard but I'm assuming you can't afford it if you're really asking hiw to fix it. If you want to get a new hotas the best quality for a budget price would be a thrustmaster t16000 throttle with a VKB gladiator stick. All the imputs to fly a modern fighter, 0 potentiometers. If you absolutely need help tell me more about the issues with your unit and I'll see what I can do

@@ivergalaasen9878 The joystick handle turns right or left, if that's what you mean. I've never actually managed to use all the controls at once, especially those on the throttle. You need a degree in Switchable Trionics for that.

I have used this Hotas for elite dangerous for over a year. I occasionally look at more costly sticks but the cost benefit does not stack up. In Elite I am currently elite trader and explorer and dangerous combat. The stick has been totally reliable.

I've been using this HOTAS for DCS for 2 1/2 years as an entry level system. Its not bad but it is what it is - entry level. I recently switched to a high end HOTAS by Virpil and can only say: no comparison - with the T.flight X, the precision required for airborne refuelling and so on just isnt there, its been so frustrating... I would summarize: its ok if u r new to flying of for arcade flying like in Arma3 or Battlefield.

I have been playing Elite Dangerous since Feb 17 and bought this to play the game with right from the start. After 1.5 yrs of heavy use, the joystick started playing up and insists on trying to yaw me left when I let go of the stick. very difficult to use when you are in an SRV and in the Turret trying to aim at a Skimmer. I haven't been able to track down the problem yet but I suspect it is to do with the fine wires that go from the Hall effect transistor in the neck of the joystick to the PCB. Resoldered the wires but that didn't work. The fine wires may be a problem to replace as I think they are especially chosen for their ability to flex a lot without breaking or becoming intermittent...(To a point though eh?). I have to say though, this stick is very nice to use other than the existing problem. I keep mine locked together as the whole thing is much more stable. As the price has just gone down by £12 at Argos, I may well buy another and try to fix this in my own time. I wonder if anyone else has noticed the plastic screw on the right side of the Joy stick immediately under the hand rest? It is a half turn screw that will lock your joystick from yawing. It won't twist left or right... and no this won't cure my problem because I have an electrical fault.

I have this thing. And not the fake one either. You can mod the cord to be longer easily. You can also mod the joystick to be longer and more precise. For any modders out there it's an easy controller to take apart if you have common sense.

The rocker on the throttle starts to drift pretty quickly after mild use, if you're used to using the stick twist for rudder then maybe you can look past it, but I can't recommend this stick. I think it's a better idea to spend more money on a hotas that will last you years.

I own a x56 and it was out to the shop for repairs and i got this to just be able to play. and i hated it at first but i accompanied it with my nastromo to play elite dangerous and i got so accustom to it i didnt want to switch back to my x-56 when i got it back. i actually got better on this one vs my x56 crazy right, but true. so its a good stick for the money. There is a spring in the bottom that is adjustable, it can be adjusted to be very tight or very loose. There is a deadzone in the center which is a pain sometimes.

I use this for DCS, War Thunder, and FS-X and it works very well! there is almost no delay unless you really put a strain on your PC. I recommend it for beginners since it does lack spacing, buttons, and just overall touch to it. However its cheap af so I say go ahead!

Budget hotas all seem to be bad for their price, which sucks because they're not exactly "cheap" when you consider the niche number of games you'll even use them on. This thing is slightly more expensive than a normal controller ffs, and they'll both drift as much.
