I like this combo size. At 55mm you can use it indoors and not have to be 10 ft away from the subject and it also has a fair amount of zoom. My 75-300mm doesnt work so well indoors so I have to take a second lens everywhere I go. I like this one

Not going to pad it; all I heard was blah blah I can afford a great body. Reality is the 55-250 stm specific punches way above its weight class. It laps either 300 with ease and depending on your shooting preference, can actually outlast the new 50. Especially for new nature shooters. More words don’t always equal better info.

Unless something is blocking the lens of you put it on auto something should show up.

Stepper motor. STM lenses are faster and quieter when Auto Focussing and STM lenses also like USM (ultrasonic motor) lenses allow Manual focussing anytime (as long as shutter is half pressed) without needing to switch AF/MF switch on lens to MF. Don't buy a lens without STM or USM label - they are too old.

Yes, If the wildlife is not too far away and there is enough light and depends on camera too. Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM works better with newer APSC cameras with more focussing points and better sensor sensitivity (higher ISO range available). (e.g. Auto Focussing always works well with my 19 focus points T6S (760D) but sometimes need manual focussing at 250mm when used with my 9 focussing points T2i (550D)).
