The Political Declaration of the High-Level Meeting on the Fight Against Tuberculosis reaffirms the collective commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the resolve to end the tuberculosis epidemic by 2030. The essential pillar of the TB response is a strong and resilient public health systems, including health workforce capacity - building for public and private sector care. The Multisectoral Accountability Framework (MAF-TB) outlines the engagement of various sectors (public, private) to pursue actions to end tuberculosis and leave no one behind through whole -of-society and whole-of-government approaches.
Considering that over 60% of people with TB symptoms seek care in the private sector, the ultimate win is to create awareness about TB amongst communities and providers so that we can detect TB early, and people affected by TB receive diagnosis, care and support at the provider where they seek care. Shorter TB pathways with quality TB care are less costly, reduce the risk of spread of TB in the community, and reduce the risk of developing resistance to TB medications.
This webinar provides concrete examples from Nigeria, Indonesia, and Pakistan on engaging private healthcare providers in the national TB response.
