I got to be part of a junket for the film I Am Sam. Dakota was 7. Her first film. I was at a table with five other reporters. Dakota enters with her mom and her event handler. The event handler shows her where to sit and then she and Dakota's mother walked to the far side of the room and chatted quietly, not even looking over until the time was up. Again, Dakota was 7. The moment she sat down, she was in charge. This was her first junket as well as mine. "Hi. I'm Dakota, and you are?" "What's your question?" She had a paragraph for every question. No hesitation. But not a word felt rehearsed. When she left, all of the other reporters, all who had been doing this for years, said she was one of the best interviews they ever had. "What is she, 35?" She was a tiny adult. A couple of years later, my boss athe time interviewed her abd her little sister Elle for the Disney English dub of My Neighbor Totoro. Again, she was a tiny adult when interviewed by herself. But when she was withbher sister, she became a child. She still had great answers, but was playing with her sister like any normal kid would. The send her sister left, the adult was back. You could see and feel the change. Denzel's first film was 1978's Carbon Copy. A comedy. I liked it.

This is my favorite Denzel Washington film. His chemistry with Dakota Fanning is so natural and beautiful. Their relationship and love for each other feels real, and so the dark turn of events feels even more devastating. This movie brought me to tears more than once, the strongest time being their goodbye on the bridge. The Nine Inch Nails' instrumental "The Mark Has Been Made" was also used to optimal effect. "I wish ... you had ... more time!" Such a savage delivery of that line by Denzel!

My fav DW movie is "dejavu." I'd love to see your reaction if you haven't seen it already... but anything with DW is great.

Ah... You guys are ready for the best movie of 2023, in my opinion, Equalizer 3. 🙏🏼 My mom also loved MAN ON FIRE. I was sad she didn't get to see E3. I'm not the biggest fan of this movie because there's too much implausibly. I love Mickey Rourke tho. You guys gotta watch some of his early stuff. Marc Anthony has done some good acting roles. I wish he'd do a musical. He only had like an scene in IN THE HEIGHTS. I only watched this after the John Wick movies. I feel like they must have been "inspired by" MoF.

The mom in this Radha Mitchell is in another movie based on a video game Silent Hill. A little after Halloween but still worth checking out.

Another fantastic movie with kidnapping is RANSOM (1996) Directed by Ron Howard (Apollo 13), starring Mel Gibson, and quite possibly one of the most overlooked white-knuckle thrillers of the decade. Once it starts, it doesn't let up.

A funny story, I worked for a company that had offices all over the world. I was assigned to do a job in Mexico City. The taxi driver dropped me in the office, but before I got out the car, the driver told me it would have been easier to just tell him "take me to house of the man on fire". Only then did I realize I was in the house itself, the mansion where the family in the movie lived. That was almost 9 years ago, I guess people still recognize that house for this movie.

Love a Denzel series! I think Deja vu, The Pelican brief, Training day and Philadelphia are some of my favorites. And of course the epic biopic Malcolm X!! Oh and also for a different vibe: Much ado about nothing

A great movie to finally come back and watch something good with you guys. One of my favorites. The ending credit song, Carlos Varela’s ‘Una Palabra,’ is so beautiful and haunting. Have missed you.

One of my favorite action films, cool story. It was also cool to see them together again in Equalizer 3. One of my favorite Dakota Fanning movies is Dreamer with Kurt Russell.

That line about "snatch the life right out of you" is incredible. This is like his practice for the Equalizer.
