Got 3 TBS knives myself. All Boar versions; fixed & large lockable folding knives both with natural Micarta scales and last but not least the Boar EDC folding knife. If I need a heavy survival knife I tend to fall back on my India 15" Kukri. Enjoyed the comparison and would like to get a few more of the TBS knives but they are now out of my price range.

The Grizzly is beautiful, I'm hesitating between that and a Casstrom No 10... Keep up the good work.
@daveandmerlin Жыл бұрын
I've seen videos on Casstrom knives about the blades coming out of the box with chips and dings etc and also very poor performance with blades getting dings after only a few days . Casstrom seems to be massively overated

A Mountain Rescue Legend! Just found your channel after getting the TBS wild cat folder and thought I'd have a nose at their other blades. Top stuff buddy, keep it up 🤘

Hey, nice one, thanks for watching. Yeah some of the TBS kit is quality stuff for sure. Not sure about the legend bit but I certainly enjoyed my time in the team it's by far the most rewarding hobby I have ever had knowing I've done my bit to potentially save a life.

I bought the falkniven F1 in Elmax and a SRK 3v ,lionsteel my and I still prefer my TBS Grizzly..the wee EDC boar uk legal is a cracking wee gem of a hiking knife .. They've got their boar bushtool on sale this week for 150 down from 200 you get a sheath but no pack pouch or fire steel. Great comparison review and info post m8 👍

Just what I needed as I'm currently researching these knives. It's an expensive purchase so need to be sure before doing so and your video has help me in my decision to buy.

Hey, thanks for watching and thanks for the sub. They are great knives, well made and strong and I love all of mine. There's lots of options on the market these days though and I've discovered these are a bit like marmite - you either love them or hate them. Personally, I'm definitely a lover 😊

Those are terribly inefficient knives.
@OneLifeOverland3 жыл бұрын
@@Bushprowler I think one can only speak based on their own use and experience. For me personally, I've had no issues with any of mine and use at least one almost daily for a range of tasks. I would be interested to know what your thinking is around them being inefficient though?
@Bushprowler3 жыл бұрын
@@OneLifeOverland the grinds on those TBS knives are just too steep/not high enough and they know that but it's by design and their designer is absolutely immune to advice. Those grinds are idiot proof but severely lack in performance. Compare the Boar/Timberwolf to the original Timberwolf by Gary Mills, compare the Grizzly to the 6mm thick handforged knife they sold and later based their Grizzly on etc. The knives they sold before they began to design and mass produce their own TBS line of knives were actually efficient tools made by some knife makers. Now, they're mass produced but not less expensive and the grinds are so steep that they can't compete with the old Timberwolf or a Mora in raw cutting performance but are less likely to get returned because inexperienced users can't easily damage the edge even when they try to. I was really disappointed with the performance of those knives. I'd to regrind them.

I have the TBS Boar w/6mm thickness, N690 Stainless Steel and Curly Birch but is the size of the Grizzly. I should have gone with the Stabilized Curly Birch because i moved from a dry climate to a humid climate and haven't protected the handle yet. I haven't notice any problems with the handle at all and I'm not sure what to use on the handle, I have both Tung oil and Boiled Linseed oil.

Great video and excellent reviews. Look like quality set of knives,I especially I like the sheaths. Thank you for sharing ATB Dan. 👍👍👍👍

Hey buddy, they really are well made. As I said I have no affiliation with TBS other than they have lent me a knife but ill sing the praises of these 3 all day long. Well worth it if your thinking of investing in one. And yeah, I am especially a fan of the leatherwork too, they use really good quality leather and a good range of options too. Thanks for watching buddy.

Good review. I’ve bought too many ‘survival’ type knives in the past and never use them (Kershaw Camp 10, ESEE 6 and others). However the Mora Companion HD Carbon has been my go-to knife but I’ve been looking at TBS for a while and was drawn to the Timberwolf for the handle. After seeing your other comments I might go stainless too, rather than carbon.
@OneLifeOverland4 жыл бұрын
The ESEE's are good quality knives but not so straight forward to sharpen I don't think, though I have not owned one now for many years. And as I said to someone else recently Mora have it all, sharp, reliable and cheap but they lack significantly in the look and feel department. The Timberwolf IMHO has it all, relatively easy to maintain, they look good, are well balanced and feel really comfortable in the hand even for my shovels! Stainless is defo the way to go if you want a blade that can be locked away after use and forgotten about until next time. Carbon needs a lot more tlc but it will also sharpen slightly easier so it's swings and roundabouts really. Good luck and let me know which one you choose. Thanks for watching, OLO.

Great comparison mate. As you know I love my tbs boar stainless! 😊👍
@OneLifeOverland4 жыл бұрын
Yes mate, you do. 3 great bits of kit though whichever you choose. I'll definitely go for a stainless next time though, just so much less maintenance to think about. Thanks for watching buddy.

I like having a large beefy blade that wont fail me. As well as a smaller blade for smaller tasks. A two knife system is a must in my opinion.

Hi mate, nice review, I've had my eye on the Timberwolf for a while and it's good to see how it looks. I've been using Mora knives for years but think it's about time I got a decent full tang bushcraft knife 👍
@OneLifeOverland4 жыл бұрын
The thing is. In some respects you'll never beat a Mora. Really they have it all, strength, durability, ability to hold an edge and they cost pennies. That said the Timberwolf is a quality piece of kit, personally I'd be tempted to go stainless next time but otherwise I've put it through it's paces now and I really am very pleased with it overall. Thanks for swinging by the channel and having a watch buddy. Appreciate it.

@@OneLifeOverland No worries mate! I was gonna ask about the blade on the Timberwolf, I've only had one carbon steel knife and it was a nightmare to look after. I might be tempted to stick with stainless steel 👍.
@OneLifeOverland4 жыл бұрын
@@Adventure-Outdoors Stainless is definitely the way to go for a carefree knife. I dare say slightly harder to get super sharp than Carbon but what extra time that takes you easily save in having to keep it clean and regularly oiled. Thanks again buddy 👍

Hi thanks for the video. I have the Boar MK1, have they changed the angle of the bevel, the MK1 has a very steep angle.
@OneLifeOverland4 жыл бұрын
Hmm good question, I cant answer that as I have never handled the original though I do believe that was 5mm? And the mk2 is narrower so I suspect the bevel probably is slightly shallower. Thanks for watching, OLO.

Guys I'm looking at investing in either the boar or grizzly. It's for general use. As I can only afford one lol
@OneLifeOverland2 жыл бұрын
I'd be tempted by the Boar for general use. The Grizzly is for pretty heavy duty work, it's still a good all rounder but as a general duty knife the Boar is probably your best bet. Thanks for watching.

Nice one, thanks for watching buddy. Yeah the Boar is a good shout and the stainless version is worth looking at too, lot less faff than having to maintain a carbon steel blade. I've used it a fair bit now and it holds its edge and strops really well when it needs a touch up. Still razor sharp too and its not seen a sharpening stone yet.
