Something else I think that makes Squirrel Girl more popular, is that by virtue of being a bit of a bigger woman, she also has a much rounder face. Which makes sense thematically, as squirrels have big cheeks and so she would too. But outside of thematics, I think it just makes her look a lot more *Cute* than most of the other characters. She might not have the face that makes every high fashion model envious, but she DOES have the face that made every single guy (and probably some girls) in her school have a crush on her at one point or another.

Psylocke’s design in rivals is based off her design from X-men Demon Days written and drawn by Peach Momoko who herself is Japanese. Now a lot of the variant covers of this psylocke look like the rivals model. However Momoko’s rendition itself is a lot less flashy with more basic fabrics and less bits and bobs tacked onto her outfit

I think a part of why squirrel girl is called chubby is because her clothes puff up her silhouette a lot (especially her arms), her tail too depending on the angle and people misinterpret that without checking the details, though the fact she is the only average body doesn't help

Not gonna lie the rant on the "Squirel girl body shape" was super valid. I'm a relative young man so i'm just getting to notice how much the internet and other types of media has fucked us in perpective of body types and what makes you atractive. I met a ton o women recently and each one was beatiful in their own way. The meme of "The super model vs the girl i saw working on the restaurant" is so true. Plus the analises of character design was so on point. Squirel Girl gives that soft, happy, Ray of sunshine girl.

For starlords costume dissonance… I understand why that happened. Because the mcu guardians of the galaxy fundamentally shifted a lot of the original nature of the guardians. Pre mcu, the guardians were a semi-professional group of skilled heroes and semi-law enforcement, with star lord as their leader… stoic, professional, and caring. And that initial costume matches that period. Then mcu happened and the guardians characters were fundamentally altered. Peter quill became more of a ‘dashing rogue’, the guardians being more like mercenaries and with that came the red outfits, jackets, and the more cocky aspects to his character. Seriously… best example of pre-mcu Peter quill and the guardians of the galaxy is earths mightiest heroes and their cameo in that show. Point I am making is that you’re right. The blue outfit on starlord doesn’t fit starlord as he is now. Now… if they had an alternate animations set for starlord with his cooler, tactically minded, stoic leader version pre-Mcu, the blue would fit hand in glove. But that’s what happens when you have the flipping of what was a blue oni character to red and then THAT became the default.

Still mostly agree, but honestly I think they did the best they could, he's wearing a coat for quite literally no reason, that suit usually protects him from space. His animations themselves are done really well for his current personality, and honestly I can't see the costume as either version. While yes the general aesthetic would fit captain starlord a bit better, from the way the blasters are modeled (short, very angular grip), the way his rocket boots flare up from the calves, it all invokes high speed imagery. While at the same time invoking "i'm trying to be flashy" by having a lot of unnecessary detail a 14 year old might put in to look cool. Which both fit for rogue flashy star lord. I think the biggest miss is either changing the colors and adding a bit more flash, or doing the linework better to invoke a type of "lightning" feel.

Tl;dr, Betsy Braddock is the sister of Captain Britain, she’s a powerful telepath, got body swapped with a telepathic assassin named Kwannon, became Psylocke, Several years later Betsy was put back in her original body and is Captain Britain, while Kwannon is Psylocke who is currently more of an anti-hero.

Simple is often in the eye of the beholder, especially with longer running characters. Psylocke is a relatively new character in the context of Marvel comics but she drew a lot of attention from the myriad of writers drawn to the X-Men, and the problem of a lot of people wanting to write for the X-Men is that a lot of ideas percolate around them, some good, some bad, some extremely weird. I find that to be both an advantage and a disadvantage.

ok I'm realizing something that wasn't to obvious with other characters when reviewing them, and is that you are trying to place a lore on them they don't have, rocket is not a trash panda scavenging for parts, he is a space mercenary who works for very high end people, Rocket is also a clean person, and there's voice lines of him saying how he doesn't want to get dirty cause he already took a shower, he is meant to be human or "civilize" compare to a wild animal, reason why he gets mad when he is called a racoon or an animal, so no, the wear and tear aesthetic would function for an early younger rocket, but this rocket is older and have been a space mercenary for years now,

Part of that is 'cause he doesn't necessarily know their stories and is reacting to their animations. If you notice, the idle animation had gone on loop a few times where the gun briefly malfunctioned before he mentioned the trash gremlin stuff. That combined with his general punk aesthetics - he's covered in fur and somehow still has a spiky mohawk, has bright red eyes, and a devil grin - it gives more of a vibe yoi can read that way in a vacuum

Spider-Man is widely regarded among comic artists to have the best costume design, like, ever. I think Rivals' version doesn'y deviate heavily because "ain't broke, don't fix." I remember there's a short documentary of Alex Ross where he really breaks down why the costume works, and it's very interesting- recommend watching it if you can find it.

Also as to the overwatch corn thing, while the character designs of the characters were good to fine, it was more that he models were easily accessible. Just take those out of the game, do some minor tweaking to add bits and bobs, and you're golden to make whatever animations you want/can. It's like the beans on toast of the nsfw animation world; Why did they do it? It's cause it was easy to get ahold of.

Just as a note on the "Scarlett Witch as a force of horror" topic at 52:00, yeah, no, totally. Multiverse of Madness as a whole wasn't a great film, but it (and Wandavision, the show that kinda leads into the MCU's Scarlett Witch as a tragic villain thing) does a great job of selling Wanda in that Invincible-esque "oh yeah, if you take super heroes out of their paragon on a lunchbox context suddenly they can get *real fucked up*" role.

I really like how I get multiple multiple perspectives from different content creators here. Skyen is really focused on how well the design tells the characters story, meanwhile another creator I watched was very focused on how the colors and shapes emphasize different characteristics, and how, for example, the spider-man design is kinda terrible because the black lines lead the eyes all around without ever accomplishing anything. Makes you wish all character design teams had people specialized in both aspects.

The iconic black dress of pop-culture ninjas actually comes from theater; it's what the assistants and prop-movers wore, so the audience would know to suspend their disbelief and ignore them. The internets reaction to squirrel girl is quite fascinating as its one of those moments where people see a character's body as being something "close enough" to more of a bbw body shape and then sorta fancannon (not always of course) an even larger body for them than they actually have (characters like Toriel, Hex Maniac, Mei come to mind). As said in the video I think there is real merit to actually closely examining these characters in regards to their r34 depictions and seeing what it is EXACTLY that seems to trigger that kind of response from people on the internet.

Much as I have my problems with the direction Multiverse of Madness goes with Scarlet Witch, I would genuinely recommend it for Sam Raimi’s unmistakable fingerprint on the movie alone. Whether the villain turn is totally earned or not, the film’s visuals really lean into the horror and tragedy of a person discarding their humanity for very human reasons.

You certainly could and I wouldn’t be surprised if they do that, though I think fusing them risks removing the most interesting aspects of both Kwannon and Betsy. They are two characters very shaped by their environment and their backstories are quite different - being a ninja in the Hand and being a wealthy British noblewoman whose privilege fails to shield her from British mutantphobia, respectively.

Betsy Braddock started as Psylocke, brother to Captain Britain & was a telepathic mutant agent for the British branch of SHIELD. After some adventures with the X-Men, she went thru a magic portal that swapped her body with a Japanese mutant Hand ninja named Kwannon, who also had similar powers. Long story short, her original body died, she spent years in an Asian body, & only during Krakoa did both Betsy & Kwannon got their bodies back.

In general, I agree with Skyen's Squirrel Girl rant pointing out that she's actually the cute and normal woman you'd expect to see more and not the "chubby" one like others think she is. There's a reason as to why specific body types have been pushed to in a lot of games and is that people actually like them (if that weren't the case, they wouldn't sell or be popular at all), since those body types are not that realistic or not seen as often. It's fine if people like to see more ideal beautiful women in fictional unverses, since that's part of what they are for: Escapism from reality. At the same time, I agree with Skyen's take that those same body types distorded the view of people about what's considered "chubby" or "thick". But in the end, it's the person's responsability to not mix fiction with reality and always separate them. It's their hobby, so it's on them to have that clear.

MoM was quite good. I think people had very high expectations for it as an MCU film after Endgame and as a Sam Raimi project, but I found it to be stronger than the first Dr Strange movie.

In Rocket's voice lines with Captain America, he talks about the whole "experiment" thing and how he prefers to not talk about it. That resentful and sad personality of Rocket is still there, but very hidden by the more gremlin persona. Also Squirrel Girl best character

With the no way home suit, I’m pretty sure Peter ended up losing a lot of the nano bots making the iron-spider suit when dock-ock tried to steal it and he ended up using the remaining nano bots to reinforce his normal suit instead of having a full armour one which is why a lot of it seems more fabricy
