@@ZachWish I really enjoyed the video. I appreciate the heads up on the possible live stereo issues. While I know and understand the issue I can't say I would have remembered it when in a live situation. Learning from others has got to be the best route to go if at all possible. While I got your attention, what speakers are you running in your cab? I've got my Plexi running into a Bluesbreaker style cab with a pair of Vintage 30s (one 75Hz and one 55Hz.). I'm not really digging the sound and am considering a switch to 25W Greenbacks to better match the power level of the Plexi.
@ZachWish4 жыл бұрын
@@hkguitar1984 I love greenbacks. They seem to smooth out a lot of rough edges in my opinion. The Suhr Cab that I'm playing through has G12H 75 Creamback Speakers. Kind of a higher wattage greenback with a little bit more punch. I'd say these, greenbacks, and v30s are my favorite speakers.

Man this video sold me the pedal !! I bought it and used it directly on a PA system after my torpedo CABM. The first result was horrible despite the stereo. I was absolutely shocked, I had a loss of volume, a kind of metallic sound and the worst: out of phase issues with my low end gone. I removed the pedal and thought about selling it but I decided to search on internet. And finally I found an article on the french Audiofanzine talking about the issue on kind of PA system (the tester used actually a Kemper). He said even in Stereo you have to hard pan one pedal exit to the left and the other one to the right. This is done to simulate something like playing two amps. I did it and then the magic happened. My pedalboard is reborn. I couldn't put my guitar down for hours. It's not mentioned in TC Mimiq user manual which only speaks about 2 amps. So guys if you use it with a PA system (speakers), be sure to pan (in your mixing table or software) the outputs to hard left and hard right !! The magic will happen like in this video ☺️☺️☺️🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

It's more of a convincing double track sound when the wet signal is about halfway and dry maxed out in a stereo setup. The wet signal when cranked will sound out of phase. The dub switch is also more realistic when the wet signal is halfway. When there are two guitarists, the lead player is always a little louder with different eq settings so things will sound even bigger.

One thing that I keep wanting to see from all the reviews on this pedal, is the actual waveforms recorded onto two different tracks in a DAW. How close do they resemble each other with tightness at the extremes? Or with tightness in the middle? I want to see the imperfections in those waves to see that it isn't simply a sample delay, but something a bit more sophisticated. Couldn't I get a similar effect by automating my second guitar track with slightly moving Has effect (a sample delay moderately sawing back and forth between 0ms and 30ms) and then automate another small sawing of pitch by cents? Point is, show me the waveforms, and turn the tightness knob while recording to see how much of a difference it makes.
@vanbike6679 ай бұрын
Its suposed to be used in live situation. It is better to double (maybe more tracks) guitars one by one in a daw.

Hey I’ve come to realize this is a pedal for 2 amp scenarios. I’m not lugging two amps to a gig I bring a modeler as a backup. Do you have any recommendations for a single guitar player to sound huge without a stereo rig? Love your channel btw
@imikewillrockyou3 жыл бұрын
I would use the mimiq with a two guitar band, I've heard it done to good effect. You have the stereo guitar plus the other guitar right up the middle, and sounds like three guitars BIG. Or for example the other player goes into a solo you kick into stereo so the fullness of the band doesn't suddenly drop out and actually sounds bigger, highlighting the solo.

Buying this pedal to substitute a DD-3 with the volume 100% and the delay time set to minimum. I run 2 amp heads into 1 4x12. Without the DD3 my amps phase each other out and sound super thin... But with the DD3 its monstrous. I'd like to use the DD3 as an actual delay effect and use this pedal as the signal split... Do you foresee the Mimiq working the same way the DD3 does if not better, or accentuating the phasing issue like with nothing at all?
@ZachWish3 жыл бұрын
Hey Glenn, hard to say since sometimes pedals like this affect everyone's rig differently depending on your setup. I used to a use a DD-3 like that for the stereo split effect back in the day and I loved that sound. The Mimiq will definitely give you a similar thing except with a bit more width flexibility. The sound is going to be slightly different than the DD-3 split because the Mimiq introduces a subtle modulation to my ears to try to differentiate the two signals. I'd probably try to grab one from a place where you could return it if it didn't end up working for you. Definitely a cool pedal in a stereo rig though! Thanks for checking out the video!
@DrGand3 жыл бұрын
@@ZachWish Yeah I figure if people can use it the way we used a DD-3 then the Mimiq can only sound better as it does the same thing but dynamically. Your video sold me on it from the tone and Plague Scythe Studios' video sold me on it from the technical aspect for what the pedal actually does. I ordered it from Sweetwater so if there's any issues returning it should be easy... Thanks again for the advice, as well as your video; it was extremely helpful in determining buying this pedal!

Would it be possible to go stereo with one amp/cab and another pedal-based amp like the powerstage?
@ZachWish4 жыл бұрын
It would be! I've been thinking about doing the exact same setup so I don't have to carry two amps. Granted I'm not playing any shows at the moment, but lightening the load is always good. Since I'm only going into the front end of one of the amps, it doesn't really matter too much what the second amp is as long as it's a clean power amp or an amp's effects loop return. You'd basically just into the front end of your main amp, out the effects loop send to the mono in of the Mimiq, and then stereo out, one back to your main amp's effects loop return, and the other to your Powerstage or effects loop return of another amp. Pretty slick little setup.

The awesome thing because authentic double-tracking (or quad-tracking) is so beloved and sought-after is not only the stereo-widening... the full-bodied tone, even in mono, is the fundamental part. This pedal is just a mirage of double or quad-tracking, because of the stereo-widening trick. But, even in a live situation, the Mimiq just sound like a sort of a bad stereo chorus/flanger with fixed notches (no-LFO, like the 'filter matrix' mode found in the Electric Mistress pedal). That destroys your tone AND makes you get lost in the mix. I had this pedal, but I sold it pretty soon, because of that and many others issues. Thanks for the demo, but this pedal is a useless garbage for any serious work.
