TC ELECTRONIC PLETHORA X5: How to update the firmware and what’s new!

Also of note, a new Plethora comes with the original default firmware. Each firmware update needs to be installed to enable installation of the following updates! To install 1.2, you need to install 1.12, 1.144, 1.15, etc.

@@LeoGibsonGtr Not sure about requiring all of the minor updates. I set one up today which came with 1.12 installed. I downloaded 1.2 installed and updated successfully.

Just a note too that Windows users must unzip the folder and add the .bin file to the Plethora

THANK YOU SO MUCH Other tips: My Plethora was three versions behind (original Firmware) Like another commenter found, I needed to update each PREVIOUS version until I got to the current one. ALSO It isn’t mentioned clearly in videos or the release notes but on my MacBook, I had to “EJECT” the Plethora, ensure it was no longer showing on my devices. If I went straight to pulling the power out it wouldn't update. After ejecting I HAD TO pull the USB cable from the Plethora. Then pull the power cable out and power it back up. If I left the USB connected and power cycled, IT WOULD NOT UPDATE I also emptied the trash and all the .bin downloads so there weren’t previous versions hanging around. I noticed after failed attempts the .bin file would still be sitting in the Plethora’s directory when I viewed it on the laptop. If it didn’t update upon power cycle and you can see the .bin in the Plethora via USB it didn’t upload. I emptied that out as well for a fresh start each time while working through the other issues around connecting. Hope this helps, TC’s products are great. Their support is non-existent.

Thanks a lot. Wonder why it is so hard for TC to include a readme file together with the update. I have used 4 hours to try to update the fucking board before finding this.

Thank you! TC Electronics doesn't (apparently) know how to include instructions anywhere for anything. It's left up to urban legend and oral tradition passed from one generation to another in order to figure out how to do any damn thing. Great products, but TERRIBLE support. While I don't (yet) regret my recent purchase, this will be my last tc electronics product until they give better directions.

I accidently unplugged the plethora x5 while it was updating. now when I plug it back, it doesnt turn on anymore, the screen is black, the led still flashiing continuously but nothing happens. what should I do?

Hi Paul, I've tried right now to download the firmware update file from the TC web site and actually it is already unzipped. The file is called plethoraX5_1_1_43.bin , and that's the file that should be uploaded in the Plethora Drive of your Mac. I hope this help...sorry if it was not clear in the video.

THIS IS FOR MAC USERS ONLY Jesus fucking christ it took way too long to find this.. in fact so long that I had already in an act of desperation tried dragging the fuckin .bin file to the plethora since it showed up as a drive on my desktop and after a restart all of a sudden I was good. ...... Now that TC tech support has been deservedly shit on. Download the update... uncompress it.. you get a .bin file .. Plug your plethora in via USB. it will show up as an attached drive drag the uncompressed .bin file to the plethora drive. restart the pedal.. you're good.

Ciao, è difficile riuscire ad aiutare "a distanza". Il video era tarato sul primo firmware upgrade fatto da TC, quindi non so se ci sono differenze. inoltre ho Mac e non so se tu hai windows a vi sono differenze nella procedura. Comunque sono sicuro che la procedura del video funziona, con Mac e con quel FW upgrade, sia perché l'ho usata sia perché ha funzionato anche per altri. Grazie del messaggio e mi spiace di non riuscire ad aiutare maggiormente....

Hi Mike, thank you! I noticed that in your link it is not included the tone print app but only the firmware: It would be nice to have both in the same place (in my opinion). I would remove the link to the "bin" file but I would live the one to the app. Is it ok for you? As regards new features, let me think about it a little bit and I will tell you
