I am a nurse in plastic surgery; I just wanted to say that you did a very good job on your video. Please explain what "frosting" means maybe in future videos. I enjoyed watching this, and you were open and honest, and your daily results really helps! We do most of our TCA peels in the winter, so there isn't any temptations to be outside in the sun. This is a great, honest video for people to watch if they are interested in these types of peels. Thank you, great job.

Hi Kelli! Thank you so much for the kind comment. I really appreciate the feedback. I definitely should have explained frosting or put a description of it on the screen. I will do that next time. That makes sense about doing the TCA peels in the winter. It was trickier doing it in the summer - but I think a lot of people are doing them now since they are stuck at home - though during winter would be better. Did a 15% a few months ago… I’m a nurse and the mask was nice for hiding behind but even lathered in Vaseline it irritated my peeling area. So today I did a second peel But- I diluted the TCA to 12.5% , except with a q tip I hit the small areas and fine lines with 25%. Left on for 10 min. I made sure under my eyes I stayed at 12.5% because this skin is thin and fine. I can honestly say the whole process was less painful and I wasn’t left with the WHAT have I just done!! feeling. I’d rather go low and slow than have days of misery. I plan to do another in a month and no longer dreading it.

Amazing results! It should do permanent change to fine lines, but the change is more visible when the skin is freshly exfoliated with a peel, once the dead skin builds back up the little lines might look slightly more pronounced. Yes. Depending on how much solution you have on the gauze you have a lighter or deeper peel. The depth is highly determined by the volume of solution. We encourage you to saturate the gauze, then fold it in half and then give it a squeeze. If its wet - but not dripping - you are good. I am glad that you stopped at that first layer. You did a SUPER job! **Also.. remember that BIG changes to collagen/elastin will take months before they show on the skin's surface. In a few months it will get even better. YES! A series is important. Peels are never "one and done". We like to suggest at least 6 peels in a row. One day in the future think about doing the TCA + Dream Peel for even more flaking.
@LifeDIY4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the helpful comment, Jen. That is good to know about the saturation. I may have had it a bit more saturated than normal - where I could have squeezed it out even more. I think the use of Retin A recently also helped. I actually did go over a few areas a bit more to even out the level of frosting. I feel like I could tell when I had done enough. I have learned a lot from your videos about prepping the skin and I think that is why I am having such good results, without any PIH issues yet anyway. :) And, that is awesome to hear that the process continues to take place over the next few months. I really enjoy doing these home experiments. And, I think I was a bit too casual in my excitement about the results when I filmed the video. After recording the end of the video I realized the results were quite significant to me - though to others they might look subtle. I am amazed at the changes so far. I can't even imagine how much of a change 6 peels in a row would create. I am now curious about the TCA plus Dream Peel. Thank you!

I used to do 30% glycolic peels from a company off ETSY and ooof that was rough. I have been going to get 20% TCA peels once a month now for 2 months at my spa. The first time (3 layers with 5 minutes between each) itched bad in a couple spots but the esthetician held a small fan to my face to help. Next day I had zero redness and no noticeable peeling. (I’m very fair-fine lines around eyes & forehead.) Second time going in for chemical peel -same as before 3 layers with 5 minutes between and neutralizer at end. Not painful and no itching. I could feel a tightness though. Next day no redness but could see a little bit of peeling around my nose and cheeks. Definitely, definitely worth it! My esthetician said do one once a month and you will have amazing skin.

Lisa, thank you so much for this kind comment! I am so happy to hear about the success you've had from TCA peels. I know they can be so effective, though the downtime is rough. I recently did another TCA peel and video, if you want to check it out. I didn't have the most profound results and the reason for that (I finally figured out) is because I didn't pretreat the skin with retinols or tretinoin. In the past, when I've had the best results, I would use tretinoin just a couple of times (ie: 1x-2x a week for a couple of weeks) and I would stop it about a week before the TCA peel. This created a much deeper and more even peel. I just wanted to share this with, just in case!

I’m with you on the TCA fence. I’ve done three or four of them from Platinum Skincare during quarantine. Several days after my last shedding I’m always convinced that these are the bomb and I’m never going to go without them etc. But then two weeks later I feel like I’m back to my regular skin. So I know exactly what you mean by those tiny lines that come and go and not being sure whether this is worth it, cumulative, lasting or temporary. I’m curious on your thoughts on tretinoin. I think that has made the biggest positive result in my skin. I’ve been on it w/ Curology for 7 months and don’t ever anticipate going without.
@LifeDIY4 жыл бұрын
Hi Anita! That's amazing you did 3 or 4 TCAs recently! That's a lot! But, awesome if they work and give results that last a while. I'm glad you know exactly what I mean about not being sure if the results will last. I am really curious about it and would like to know! About tretinoin - that's awesome you've been on it for 7 mos and with Curology. I was just about to sign up with them! Are you having side effects? I started using tretinoin (Prescription strength 0.05) about four months ago but am only using it once or twice a week, sometimes more often. I need to be more consistent. My mom got that one for me when she was traveling. But, I want to get a proper prescription one with Curology and maybe start a little lower, not sure. I peel a lot while on it. I am so glad to hear you're having great results with it! I think the reason my peel was so deep this time was due to using tretinoin more regularly shortly before the peel. I want to be consistent with it and see how it goes!
@anitamiko99754 жыл бұрын
Life & DIY I had similar shedding/redness/peeling with tretinoin in the past. It took me 2 months to adjust to even this low strength of .01%. You’ll love that Curology has other actives in it (custom to your skin/goals). I’ll use up my TCAs too until I can inch up to 20%

I remember watching older videos of yours taking about glycolic acid peels but I can't remember what brand you recommended. Was it "The Ordinary?"
@LifeDIY4 жыл бұрын
*Hey Shannon!* Thanks for watching! Too funny about the pain tolerance situation. It is so insanely painful beyond words. But, I get over it quickly! I had to cut out some of the clips of me but wanted to leave the rest so at least people know what to expect. I have a high pain tolerance but it is still really bad. Thank you for the compliment about the skin. I'm still trying to figure out if changes are ongoing or if more treatments need to be done for that to happen, but we will see. I think glycolic peels are incredible and not really painful compared to these - and you can get great results with them over time. For someone who hasn't done them before, Amazon sells 10% and 20% glycolic peeling pads - that's kind of how I started. Then I worked my way up to a 30% peel and then higher. The peels can sometimes feel uncomfortable but nothing like TCA. :) My fav. from the ordinary is their AHA/BHA peel that is mainly glycolic.

I used to have a fav esthetician that did deep micro penning on me and immediately after she’d do a TCA peel right on top of my freshly penned skin and my peeling was very similar to yours and it produced the most dramatic results! Didn’t get penning or deep peels for 2 years because of ms rona and other factors and my skin aged a ton. I recently had my first session of penning with a new esthetician and the results are no where near as good at all. I’m not sure if it’s just that I’m older or if it was actually the TCA peel doing the heavy work. After this video I’m thinking it was the peel and I’m going to give it a go! Thank you

Please be careful if you're doing a TCA peel at home. It's a very strong acid and there's lots of little things you need to know, like applying Vaseline in the corners of your eyes so it doesn't seep in your eye, and personally I think Vaseline should cover the entire eye because the eye is so sensitive, I wouldn't do that area unless you've done TCA peels several times and you know exactly how you'll react in a sensitive area by then. Like I said, lots of things to learn, one video just won't do it! Lots of articles, videos, forums, Facebook groups and googling can be great ways to learn! You should use gauze, a q tip, or something that does not absorb much product because a cotton round can apply way too much acid when you only need a hair thin layer.

Great video! I bought the 13% TCA peel and the 7% TCA eye peel kit from Platinum Skincare after seeing your last video on them, (I was late seeing it by a couple months) and I still haven't done them because it seems so intimidating! Thanks for making another video on it, I'm going to crack out my bravery hat and go for it! Would you say the peels can make your skin thinner at all in your experience? I paused on microneedling because I was worried I may have gone too deep around my eye area once at the end of 2019 and was paranoid, but I actually don't think it was that big of a deal. A higher strength Retinol helped thicken the skin again very quickly so it might have just been very slight. Hope your summer is going super well, beautiful
@LifeDIY4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kayleigh! So happy to see your comment! I totally understand the apprehensions, especially if it's new to you. I think the 7% would be the best place to start and maybe checkout the Platinum skincare video on it. Let me know how it goes when you do it! Just be so careful with it around the eye area! So, I am really glad you asked the question about thinning skin. You gave me a whole video idea on Top TCA related questions. I like using RealSelf.com to find expert answers. I looked on there to find an answer to your question. And, a dermatologist/surgeon answered it this way: "It temporarily thins the stratum corneum (upper most dead skin layer) but more importantly, it thickens the dermis (mid-level of the skin). A series of 3-4 peels, followed by a 1-2/year peeling is a great maintenance regimen for most people." - www.realself.com/question/visakhapatnam-02-chemical-peel. I could be wrong, but I think microneedling would do the opposite of thinning things. :) But, I understand the fears! I totally agree with you about the use of a high strength retin A product to thicken and repair the skin. I am about to go through Curology to order some, though I still have some of my own left. I really hope you are having a nice summer too! :)

The temporary elevation in blood pressure (usually a great thing!), as well as the sweating, & heat, contribute to further inflammation of delicate facial skin, and prolong the healing process. Remember, you are healing burned tissue which is already inflamed. Prolonged inflammation can make your skin vulnerable to all kinds of intruders (bacteria, fungal infection). Everyone is different, and healing times can vary. As a rule of thumb, I'd give it 5 days & then see how well your skin has recovered. Not an expert here, but an experienced peeler.

@LifeDIY4 жыл бұрын
Hi Claudia! Thank you. :) I don't blame you for being nervous about TCA peels. About my camera, it is a Canon 70d. What kind of camera did you get? Also, that's exciting you got a new one! Lighting and sound are so difficult. It helps to use an external mic. I have tried many. I recently bought one recommended by a channel called ThinkMedia - the mic was really cheap and it's the BOYA by M1 Lavalier Microphone. Not sure if you can get it where you live. Otherwise there are other external mics that are usually decent. Do you think the echo is from the mic or the way your room is setup? I had to do a lot of things to fix my echoing room too. :)
@claudiaglows4 жыл бұрын
Life & DIY thank you so much fir the recommendations, I will definitely look into the Mic I do think my room has some to do with it as well. What did you do to fix your echo problem? I got a Sony AX 53. It is exiting but so far I am not quite in love Btw, I tagged you in my last video
@LifeDIY4 жыл бұрын
@@claudiaglows That is really cool about the new camera and I hope you get used to using it and all that. It can be so overwhelming (for me anyway) to learn a new camera. But, it is worth it, I think! So sweet you tagged me! I was just starting your new video too! Also, with my echo problem in my room...I had to do a few things. I made these sound absorbers to go on the wall - these rectangular things with foam in them. I don't think those helped that much, but a little. I ended up buying sound absorbing blankets to hang up and that separate the room I record in. The room I record in is so huge. If in a normal house and recording and dealing with echos - it can help to have a rug or two and other furniture...unless the cause is that the internal mic just doesn't sound great. Having a lapel microphone can make a big difference, even if the room is echoey. :) If that's a word. :) If you want to know more about the sound absorbing blankets, I can look it up and email it to you as I can't recall where I bought them. Some people choose a room to record in and then hang a sound blanket on the wall - it makes a big difference. If you want more info, let me know!
@claudiaglows4 жыл бұрын
@@LifeDIY Thank you so much for all the info! The room I record in is not that big, so it might be the mic on the camera. I will play around with a lapel mic and let you know what happens. Whith one score is correct?

Good question. Maybe a 4 for the first layer. A 6 for the second or additional layers. Most of the pain does subside because it neutralizes itself after a few minutes.

I had horrible acne scarring and did the removal myself with TCA pretty much in one go. Not that I'd recommend DIY for those that are scared of it but it did work when MANY trips to doctors did little to nothing. First I painted all of the indented scars with a tiny paintbrush. You could use a pointed qtip or a toothpick too. Over that I did a 30% to a level two frost. This incorporated what was already painted with the little brush. It took a while to fully heal. 14 days I'd say and the scabs revealed non-dented/ice picked skin. I cried and stared at it off and on for days

@@AmandaMG6 Aww I wish you would do a video on it too! I actually haven't seen anyone do a video on this and it is a question I get a lot. You are right that there are so many people with acne scarring who are trying to get rid of it. My first thought was that microneedling might help the most, but maybe TCA is a great option to start with. I think doing them both might help even more. I am not surprised about doctors not being well versed in this. I'm assuming they would opt for a laser treatment for someone, but if you can do this safely (and way cheaper) at home, I love that as an option.

I have a question about the process help me please understand: 1. Is it 1 pass or only 2 pass every 3 minutes? 2. What emollient or topical ointment can you use after the TCA cross procedure after 12 hours or 24 hours? 3. After you allow the TCA peel to sit on face for 2 minutes, do you rinse the treated area with cool water or apply a neutralizing solution and is it the same with the TCA cross you rinse it after 5 minutes? 4. What do you use to cleanse the skin prior to the TCA cross or peel is ok to use ethyl not isopropyl alcohol? TIA!
@LifeDIY15 сағат бұрын
Thanks for your questions! It’s important to follow the instructions that come with your TCA peel, as each product can have slightly different requirements. That said, here are some general tips to help: Passes: The number of passes (e.g., 1 or 2) and the time between them (such as 3 minutes) will depend on the strength of your peel and your skin’s tolerance. Some people only do 1. I wanted a deeper peel because I've done this several times already, so I did more, until I reached the type of frosting i wanted. Post-TCA Care: After a TCA cross procedure, you can typically use an emollient like Aquaphor, Vaseline, or a healing ointment to keep the area moisturized and protected. Apply it after 12-24 hours, as directed. I have a video sharing what I like to use: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJbQY5uFbJp4r68. Rinsing or Neutralizing: Some TCA peels require rinsing with cool water, while others may suggest a neutralizing solution. For TCA cross, it’s common to let the solution sit for a few minutes before gently rinsing. Check the peel’s instructions to confirm. I personally rinse my face repeatedly with very cold water and I do wash it with Kirk's gentile castile soap too. Skin Prep: Most peels recommend using isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher), but ethyl alcohol may be an alternative. I would Google this to find out what experts are saying. Make sure to follow the instructions closely to ensure the best results and avoid any issues. I hope it goes well!

Life & DIY thanks! Been using retin-A for like 13 years. And I started doing 1-2 fraxels a year. And then the normal sunscreen, vitamin c, hydration thing lol. YESSSS Jessner peels are amazing. In fact I think I like them better than TCA. Used the platinum Jessner but again I think Dermalure are more effective. I’m about the buy the GIGANTIC BOTTLE of Jessner they offer. Try a Jessner! 14% salicylic, 14% lactic and 14% rescorcinal. And 7% of the rescorcinol is Hydroquinone so it really helps with tone and pigment! And the downtime is not bad at all. I layer my Jessner in like 5 layers, don’t have to rinse it off since it self neutralizes and I even apply my retin a the night I do the peel but not again till I’m recovered. Also Dermalure has the red carpet peel which is a copy of the V.I. peel. So thats a combo of TCA, Salicylic and retinaldehyde all in one. That’s an amazing peel as well.

Sure, no problem. From what I've read, it would be fine to do a treatment like this 1x a month, if you're doing a series of these peels. It depends on your skin and if you can tolerate it. If someone can do a series of these peels, they can get some great results. I don't do them very often personally and haven't done one in more than a year. But, I want to do one soon. When it comes to how long I leave it on the skin, that one is a bit more difficult to answer. I likely leave it on for a five minutes. The peels I purchase come with a little booklet and instructions on timing, especially if you're new to doing these peels. Here are some more details about the peel and also instructions and aftercare: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK547752/. I hope it helps!
