Imagine living in times when almost every song on radio or telly was of this quality, and then being thrown in todays world with todays songs. Some time ago I witnessed my daughter cry, because most of the great artists are either old or dead, all they get now is lousy guitarist who never washes and this girl who whines about her failing relationships whatever was her name.

@@OffRoadRiderMan Hi, I was born in the 60s, so I’m definitely a 70s/80s guy, with some love for 60s and 90s as well. But I have a friend a bit like you who swears there is no good music from the 2000s. I feel like I’ve tried to stay with the times so I’m curating a top 100 songs of the 2000s. Wasn’t sure I could find that many but now I actually have too many. And these songs are every bit as catchy as ABBA, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, etc.

Supposed to be the first pre single off the album. They even performed it in Japan and the uk on tv by late 1978 and then in December 1978 Chiquitita came along and plans were changed and the latter was released in January 1979 and this remained an album track. Many consider it to be the best album track of them all. For the first time they collaborated with a Swedish arranger Anders Eljas who was responsible for the more polished string arrangements. Third voice all over on that track. Sophisticated pop at its best.

In the U.S. Does your Mother Know was the 1st release. Chiquitita didn't come around till months later (in late 79). And as great a song as this is, I don't think it'd have done well here. Then again, the U.S. had no appreciation for Abba the way the Brits did. I felt like the only one in my high school that liked them. But, they're awesome, so F*** them!

Their basist Rutger Gunnarsson did most of the arrangements up til this album. Andes Elias can be seen in the videos from live from wembley. He is playing the keyboard

This is the most underrated song on Voulez Vous, and one of their most underrated songs overall. It was supposed to be a single but they changed their mind. It's so catchy but so sad and dark in the lyrics since it's about Björn dealing with the breakup with Agnetha. This should've become one of their disco hits in my opinion, it's so gorgeous. Disco bliss. I love their performance of this song in Japan, you should watch their TV performances if they don't have a video because it's usually playback anyways so it will be the same as the studio version.

hello again and good start to the week for You and Marisa "If it wasn't for the nights" (1978) is a cute disco-style ABBA song that combines the contrast of dense lyrics with a catchy melody and impeccable singing by the duo Agnetha & Frida "If it wasn't for the nights" also has a story ABBA had been invited to participate in the Concert for UNICEF and was going to go with this song, which was to be the new single (at these time Björn & Agnetha was in the middle of your separation) But only a weeks before these concert, ABBA composed a new song, a Masterpiece, that changed it's history: "Chiquitita" "Chiquitita" was chosen by ABBA to perform in that World Concert, They premiered there and it was Their new single, and its worldwide success was colossal (especially in my country and all Latin America) and "If it wasn't for the nights" finally wasn't a single, also was in the "Voulez Vous" album I like how You enjoy with these one specialy It's one of the best ABBA song in disco style May your day continue well and hope to return Your journey to ABBA; if You like these eurodisco sound, ABBA have a lot of good pieces in "Voulez Vous" album Another great is "As good as new" I wish you & Marisa a greatest week Kind regards from Buenos Aires Argentina

You might want to take a closer look at the lyrics. This is about how Bjorn was trying to deal with his breakup with Agnetha. He was saying that the nights are the toughest time to get through.

Yeah I wanted to say something about that that these lyrics are more about how the night time is the worst time because at least during the daytime they have distractions but when they get home it's all alone in the heartbreak and no one around to help......"No one to turn to, you know how it is... I was not prepared for something like this, now I see them clearly the things that I missed!" .... Basically saying the person I had isn't around anymore and they weren't prepared for this kind of life now. But now they're having a chance in their loneliness to see the things that they missed that got them into this situation

Agreed. This is about the busywork of life helping in some small way to stave off post-breakup depression, but it only helping a little bit. The irritability through the day and loneliness at night are a burden to be endured, and the singer's endurance is definitely under threat.

You will enjoy "As Good As New" by ABBA plus the video, but in your own time do check out the if it wasn't for the nights video in Japan. It's quite a colourful stage and the girls look fantastic. Voulez-Vous is a song by itself as well as an album. You'll really love the energy in that one when you get to it. I Let The Music Speak by ABBA with Frida on lead is as cinematic as it gets by the way.

Tyler, love to see you jiving to another Abba banger. Had this song been released I would have loved to be stomping my feet out on the dance floor to it. Just makes me wanna move it, move it. It's my favorite song on this album. Wanna a warm and fuzzy ballad, try I Have a Dream on the same album. As Good as New is another one that'll make you wanna move and groove to-also on Voulez-vous. From Super Trouper you still haven't checked out On and On and On (they rock out!) Or Andante, Andante (a big, beautiful Frida led ballad that sweeps you away). One of the highlights of clicking on Y-tube is finding you reacting to another Abba, Tyler. I'll see you next week.

Yes, such a well crafted and groovy song with smart lyrics. Similar in composition to Angel Eyes and Voulez Vous with a constant driving musical theme. Flip side….little to no build up, no anthemic refrain, less exploration and layering compared to The Album. More songs to experience that are “bangers”: As Good As New, Tiger, On and On and On, Elaine Songs that are unexpected: I Am The City, Watch Out, Intermezzo #1, Happy Hawaii Medley (Bale of Cotton, Smokey, Midnight Special) Hidden gems that should have been singles: Move On, Me And I, My Mama Said, Bang A Boomerang My suggestion: I Am The City

Voulez- Vous as an album was DISCO (not 100% but maybe 60% to 70%) but people forget disco wasn't mainly novelty music but a classy genre that produced a lot of great music (of which ABBA were inspired by and paying tribute to in this album). One to check out sometime is a song that came out the year before Voulez-Vous but is in the same class is I Love the Nightlife (Disco Round) by Alicia Bridges.

Reading between the lines, I think you liked this one. (Benny's holding the light sabre btw). So, the singer copes during the day by working, even if she loses her temper. But night times are bad, oh so bad. When shadows fall, and she's on her own, she feels the pain. She misses her partner. He's gone. Away. But it's nights when she feels it most. She could make it, if it wasn't for the loneliness of the nights. An apparently upbeat song with very downbeat lyrics. Abba in a nutshell.

Nice appreciation of this superb track, thanks. I've come to realise now Tyler that you must be making a conscious decision to avoid reacting to any of ABBA's performances (tours, TV specials etc). This is a case in point where you could have chosen the Japan TV performance, as was suggested previously by some commenters (including me!) for this track, and which greatly adds to the overall experience. That's a shame.

That’s Benny holding the lightsaber. Bjorn is the one next to Frida. Bjorn does all the male lead vocals like in Does Your Mother Know, He Is Your Brother, Man In The Middle, etc….Benny never sings lead. He plays the piano, synth and composes most of the song. Bjorn is the lyricist.
