The Empress Maria Feodorovna pictured here, was known before her marriage as Princess Dagmar of Denmark. She was the second daughter and fourth child of King Christian IX of Denmark and Louise of Hesse-Kassel. The news of the death of her son Tsar Nicholas II in 1918 struck her like a thunderbolt! She died in Denmark in 1928.
